In my line of work(Ford Parts), we help each other all the time. "What do you show on that?", "Can you sell me some of that(parts w/limited availabiltiy)?", to what might be considered more sensitive exchanges to you retail customer folks. :D

Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming that I know anything about video game publishing industry. In my bidness, we try to maintain friendly relationship. We do occasionally see some bad blood, backstabbing, and most of the time, over nothing(no profit).
 
Sure you might do that when you're dealing with car parts. Its all the same. No one is really going to make a completely different left front turn signal for a 1993 ford F150. I think its a bit different when you're talking about competing publishers that are making or losing tens of millions on even small things like delaying a map pack by a couple of weeks.

But point I was making was the relationships. It can be beneficial to step out of rivals way, when you are looking at the bigger picture, especially when it doesn't affect the overall profit. On the other hand, the opposite, like getting in the rivals way for the sake of getting in their way can start a series of lose-lose for everyone.

The very email we are discussing(shaky at best), it claims IW-side owed the EA-side. This alone suggest that this was a return of favor, not a straight sabotaging of Activison, IW, CoD franshise, or MW2. Let's say for the sake of the argument that IW did lose "tens of millions" by delaying the map packs for whatever game EA was releasing. We don't know what kind of consequence EA guy's favor to IW guy had, or what type of numbers that resulted in.

I think there's too much speculation in this to really form any opinion. Except, of course that Activision clearly has agenda against EA. ;)
 
If IW had done something like this for Treyarch sure I'd understand. They're competing for sales but they both make the same overall product. EA being a different company has no right to expect a direct rival to go out of their way to do such a thing.
 
Technically, sure. Technically, back room deals don't exist, all political dealings can be found in the papers, nobody fraternize outside their company.

Also, we are still dealing on speculation.

Holy crap! The hacking on MW2 has reached new levels!

I was having prblems with BO and the dreaded NAT, so I decided to play a few games of MW2 to restore the NAT back to what it should be...

The first map up was Scrapyard, and I duly chose a runnig and gunning class, hoping to get one over on the opposition. As I entered the map, I noticed that there were shadows everywhere. It took a second for me to get it, but there were 30ft tall pine trees all over the place - the Scrapyard had been turned into a forrest! :lol: I was like "yeah, ok, I can do trees", and proceeded into the map looking for kills...

Strangely, all the action seemed to be focussed in one section of the map, in the open area, just past B, where that box van is. I decided to scout around and come through the warehouse at the top of the map, but I was not prepared for what I found.

:eek: Infront of me, there was a staircase into the sky made entirely of green care packjages. at the top of the 'care package staircase', there was a castle made of red care packages, crenelations and all! My amazement soon turned to horror, as I realised that in each crenelation, there was a mini-gun, each operated by a memeber of the opposing team! The hackers weren't too clever though, as I tossed up a couple of frags and go a double and a triple kill! :lol:

It's a crime that one of the best selling games of all time is being so cruely neglected. 👍
 
Of course it happened! Why would I make it up? I've no reason to. I also didn't have a camera to hand at the time, but it is going on trust me. I only played three games of MW2 last night, and each one was badly hacked. I dropped into the Rust map, where everyone was jumping 100ft in the air, and fighting shooting each other in the sky! Another one, and some guy was headshotting the whole team with one round from his intervention!

I've been hanging around some of the BO fan pages on the net, and have realised that the hackers, have moved on to modding the game now. The trees were the trees from Estate, the care packages were, well care packages. Play the game for a while, and you will find this sort of nonsense going on. 👍
 
I'm not touching this **** with a 10 foot pole. I want nothing to do with any of it.
 
I haven't even looked at video games lately, thanks to the modders and non-support from the publisher, or the network. I'm upset with PSN, probably done with Activision.

The least they can do is issue some kind of statement. All we get is no comment, no action. Really good chance that I will own a new Xbox 360 by this summer. 👍 I still have the CoD4 for it. I wish I kept the MW2. :indiff: If I buy another copy of MW2, I'll make sure to buy used, in attempt to deny another penny to Activision. :p
 
Patch 3.56 is out on PS3 now and apparently the hackers are having a lot more trouble now. From what I hear slim PS3s are fixed and the regular PS3 is mostly fixed. I'm sure they'll come back and figure out another way to hack it but for now they seem to have fixed something somewhere and bricked a lot of consoles that had the fake firmware installed so they can't use them anymore.

Of course I haven't tried to play anything besides black ops yet but thats the word going around.

Is this supposed to stop the mods on games like CoD4 & MW2? I saw the patch notice thing on my screen, but I was like "there aren't any games I can play anyway", ignored it, popped in Season 8 of 24(don't judge).
 
All it was is a security patch it doesn't do anything else.
 
No, its a security update that removes the source of the hackers. Its got nothing to do with just cod but the whole PS3 firmware hack which allowed them to mod COD and other stuff.

I don't get it, it's all Greek to me. I might have to have you draw me a picture or something. :lol:
 
A group of hackers released a hacked firmware update which opened up the PS3 and most of its games to being hacked/modded. What sony has done is rolled out a new firmware update which cancels out this hacked firmware and locks most systems that have it installed so they can't be used for anything.
 
See, it sounds like it should stop the modders in CoD4 & MW2.

I did download it. Will try it, maybe tomorrow. I kind of miss the good 'ole MW2.
 
Hey ya know if it doesn't work you could always just buy black ops...
