Interesting.
Although I'm right-handed, I do the same thing.
Really gives you an advantage over players that can only focus on a part of the screen.
And don't have a problem with reaction time in close quarters, I just focus on things right in front of me in those situations.
I tend to notice, and this may sound odd, that I focus my eyes differently in different types of situations. Can't really explain that, just a feeling.

I hate fast free for all matches though. I take my time while moving around the map. Mostly spotting snipers before they spot me, unless they are very well hidden.

I'm so damn inconsistent, way I see the screen, way I play, they change all the frigging time. When I'm thinking clear though, I do try to look hard, and the whole screen.

Very happy to hear about IW crippling the akimbo 1887. Their range is was unbelievable.

I agree, one game I'll go 2 - 12, then I get mad and go 20 -3. I'd be happy if all my games were consistent or atleast close.

Somebody shoot me today with the akimbo 1887s and it seemed fairly far away. Not sure if it was just luck or what. But it defiantly seemed like a long shot for those.

Well, the score's a whole another thing. That will never be consistent enough for the most, because the game is just so random. I was getting at that my style change from time to time. It could be how tired I am, how much coffee I had, etc., etc. :D

I'm glad the 1887's are nerfed a bit too.
I watched some guy called Thomas Techter or something run round the map on a constant spiral, just firing when something got in the way of his akimbos.
Needless to say, I did a few times...
After the third time (3 times and I'm forgetting EVERYONE else) I sat somewhere in quarry and sniped him as he came round.
Didn't stop him though, he just kept circling and firing, but he did consistently die in one place on the map :D
And this left-handed theory... rubbish.
I know of a player who's freakishly lefty, and he's pants at the game....

:irked:👍

I've been thinking about this for a while now, and i am starting to think that left-handed gamers may have an advantage when playing FPSs.

How so? It has nothing to do with which hand we play the game with, but oddly enough, it relates to how we process visual information. Scientific studies have proven that there is a distinct difference in the way that right and left-handed people deal with visual information, and left-handed people have a skill, I call it a skill for want of a better word, called 'visual simultaneous', something a right-handed person genreally hasn't got.

What is 'visual simultaneous'? From scientific studies, scientists have discerned it to be this. Imagine you have a box of random objects, and you are asked to find one specific object in that box. Generally, a right handed person would keep pulling out objects until they found the correct object. Conversly, a left handed person would tip out the box, and find the object that was requested. You can conclude then, that the time it takes a right handed person to find an object is longer than it would be for a left handed person.

How does that relate to FPSs? As I have stated previously, I use a look sensitivity of 1. It seems impossibly low, but because I can process information simultaneously, I can see more than a right hand person can anyway. I often watch other gamers with higher look sensitivities, and I always notice that they are constantly twitching, checking each area one after the other.

I don't do that. I keep my sights in a predefined place, which I previously called a 'batters box' Instead of moving the sights of the gun to check each area, I check all areas at once, whiilst keeping my sights in a position that I deem to be the most likely position for an enemy to be in. I do this by surveying the screen, moving my eyes, and not the sights to find targets that may present themselves.

If you were to watch my actions on killcam, you would be surprised at how slow I actually move the gun sights. This, I believe, is because I have a real advantage. If any proof is needed, I can say that I play with my fingers and not my thumbs, have a look sensitivity of 1, and a K/D ration of ~2.10. I'm not saying that I am a god gamer, far from it! Those twitchy right handers sometimes have the tip when it comes to reactions, but I don't play the game using reations.

It would be interesting to see the differences between right and left handed gamers, because I believe there are some very real differences. Are there any lefties out there? How do you play MW2?

I to am left handed, well kinda (see last sentence), and practice that method of scanning. Keeping the crosshairs in place whilst looking around the rest of the screen or infact often I can spot a slight change in the entire screen caused by the simplest of movements without concentrating solely on one spot, even whilst on the sprint. I sometimes go into an almost trance like fashion if camping in one spot for a while where I won't even appear to be looking at the screen to those who've watched me, but I appear to be looking through it, then something moves or happens and my eyes jump right to it as I'm reacting simultaneously.

Although I don't play MW2, I played MW and WaW with ratios above 2.20 and the most recent shooter I've played is Killzone 2 with a KDR of 2.61 as it stands. I don't play shooters religiously either like many, MANY people do, but I know friends who I've sat next to whilst they play who have been playing COD since 4s release up until now and I simply spot things much faster or sometimes things which are obvious to me, but they miss completely.

It proves a vital tool for me when assessing situations quickly and reacting with speed and precision which actually made my very first game on COD4, 6 months after it was released and my first FPS since the first COD, a break even KDR match. Combine that ability with a bit more practice on the aiming and you get to a point where your crosshairs are stationary, something moves off to one side and in a split second you're firing on them accurately.

It doesn't help so much if you're run 'n' gunnin', but if you take a slower style it gels perfectly. I mean I don't camp constantly but I rarely run direct to objective, I always flank and head cover to cover, safe spot to safe spot. That is then further combined with the way my brain naturally works, with ruthless logic. I can't NOT assess things on the fly, I just can't zone out even if I'm drunk on games I'll constantly be thinking of where I could go? Where the action is? Who's getting shot? Where? Why? How can I help the team? Myself? Wheres the objective? How much ammo is left in my clip? (it really grates me when people run around with a half clip and spare ammo!) You get the picture.

And that GTP is how I play shooters, as a not a straight up lefty, I'm actually naturally born ambidextrous, but I write with my left hand by choice. Perhaps I share the best of both worlds?

I dont know if what I do is similar to you guys but when I snipe or as Drag said, sprint I do notice the tiniest pixel movements. I sit dead still when scanning for enemies and I scan with my eyes. When I see a couple of pixels move I look at the area, distinguish whether it is a person, zoom and shoot. Blam kazam, dead as a door nail in less than a second. That is generally how I work with a sniper, while running I can usually see people before they see me, I stop, crouch and shoot. Sometimes I might jump around at close range or if I reload I do all sorts, prone, crouch, jump just to stop them shooting me while I reload. If you arent in a bad mood from the previous match you eyes and brain will be processing much better and you seem to get kills much easier, at least thats how it works for me. When I am pissed off from campers all strategy leaves me and I go in rage mode.

I have very twitchy sights, and I have a 'make sure I killed them attitude' which usually includes laying more rounds into than than was really necessary, it helps account for lag (or jugganaut in the last game). I also skulk my way around the map (not charge), I'm quite stealthy until I catch a glimpse of someone. :sly:

Despite my lackluster approach to playing my KD is currently around 1.7 so it seems to do the job well enough, infact if hadn't been so useless recently it would probably carried on rising for some way.

Oh and I am right handed, big surprise. :dunce:

I came across another booster just before :/

Sabotage @ Favela, SuperMegaNova with 88-2-6 and his buddy Braden99 with 0-0-64 :| Boy did it feel good working out where Mr. Nova was camped out from watching where Braden99 (who was on my team) dropped his Tac Insertions... so I found the guy and knifed that lame-ass punk in the back.

That felt goooooooooood.

One thing i can't use is scopes. Only use it on sniper rifles for long range, but I mostly use iron sights on all other weapons.
It just narrows your view so drastically.

I actually find myself aiming down the scopes and sights (like the ACOG) and still being able to process whats happening outside of the scope. Normal scopes create black around the edge but on other games I'm still watching around the outside of the scope itself without actually staring at it.

Hmmm... some very interesting answers. 👍

Interesting theory. I tend to quickly dart my sights from one area to another in the hope of seeing movement. No surprises for guessing my handedness.

I don't know if there is a correlation between handedness and how high that person has his or her sensitivity, though, it would be interesting to find out. 👍

And this left-handed theory... rubbish.
I know of a player who's freakishly lefty, and he's pants at the game...

I think your missing the point VEXD. I wasn't saying that left-handed players are better gamers, only that they have an advantage over right-handed players in regards to how they process visual information. Within every group, there will be those that are good and those that are bad. I don't class myself as the best, but I would say that I am in the better half of the group. 👍

That pal, is EXACTLY how I play the game, and I what believe to be the advantage that us left-handed people have over right-handed people. 👍

I also agree with your gameplan, with one exception. I never capture objectives. This has become a point of consternation and ridicule in my clan, but as I always say 'I don't capture points, I prevent others from doing so'.

Don't get me wrong, I will hold points, I am pretty good at doing that, but whilst my clan mates do so at close range, I'm further away picking off those I find trying to subvert our position. The majority of my work though, goes unseen, because I like to stop the threat before it becomes a reality, and I strongly believe in action not reaction.

Yep, that is pretty much how I play the game. 👍

It just narrows your view so drastically.

One of my favourite weapons on MW2 is the RPD. Not because it is a 'spray n pray' gun, but because, with the iron sights, it has unafforded views of what is in front of you, the SCAR is another weapon with superb iron sights, that has equally unparalleled views. Some guns though, have very restrictive iron sights that I have found cause me no end of bother. :dunce:

With a better score rate, accuracy and kill ratio than you :D Anyway, technically I'm an ambo - I write left-handed and am left-eye dominant, but play sports right-handed and right-footed (except badminton, which I play with both).

Moving on, I played a game today on Derail with a guy whose PSN was "Ewan Usami". I laughed my arse off.

Well I played for at least a couple hours last night and not having played in a few weeks really hurt any kind of skill I had previously accumulated. I started the night around 0.66 K/D and ended the night around 0.53. Rarely was I achieving any kill streak bonus. I need to do a much better job of killing people in distance, and by distance I mean within the distance of effectively still using iron sights on a weapon.

I do really like Commando though, as it helped me get quite a few more kills in situations where I was previously dieing; apparently, I am terrible at getting sights on someone in close range, but much better at knifing someone.

That is exactly how I play also! I'm right handed but I don't jerk around, I let my eyes do the work and my player stay still as not to give away my position to others, because if someone is moving my brain picks it up fairly quick just like you and a few others have stated the way you look and play. I'm also a very right brained person, I would really think that what side of your brain is more dominate would play a larger role in this than if your left handed or right handed. Its strange though because the left brain is the more analytical and more logical side and the right is the more creative and art/music side. I have been playing music for almost 15 years, I play by ear and I have been doing art since I could pick up a charcoal pencil:) But then after typing that it really doesn't make sense that a right brained person would do better than a left brained person considering the attributes the left brain brings to the table......hhmmm.....now I'm just confused.

Ok, so if you play like I do, which you do MB, which is the dominate half of your brain? If you don't know the attributes for each side look here👍

According to the chart, my left brain is definitely more dominant.
So you're right handed, just as me, but you're right brained :). But you still play the game in the same manner as I do.💡

I have my sensitivity set to medium, if that's any use

Thats often what I see as how I can help best, alive and covering others. Sometimes nobody is getting anything done as regards plants and captures, so I do it myself with generally good success or valiant effort.

So, I usually have negative things to say about the players, but today I had one of the nicest things happen to me. I was on Scrapyard I think, the one with all the junk planes, and I couldn't get a rhythm and I went into Last Stand and crawled under the plane near the B flag garage. Well When I turned around I saw a grenade hit next to where I was and I thought it was a flashbang from an enemy. I started shooting and all of a sudden a big cloud of smoke appeared infront of me, and covered me until I stood back up. I don't know who did it but it was awesome, I wish I played with more people who played like that. It could of been a random throw, but it landed right next to me and it makes a good story :D:tup:

I dont know why but I freakin hate the acog scope in this game, it sucks so much. I used to be able to acog an M4 on CoD4 and have no issues but on this game it is useless. It feels so wrong, I cant even put my finger on what is wrong but it sucks. I used to use my m40a3 with the acog all the time on CoD4 and I loved it, infact, to test if it was just me I jumped on CoD4 the other day and gave the acog and shot and no issues at all. I try to put a MW2 'cog on the barret just to get 20 kills and a thermal scope and I was horrible. Even when on my game it appeared to hit, nothing happened. I gave up on it at 10 kills. I just refuse to use the crappy acog unless I need to get something from a gun by using it.

On CoD4, some people could see stuff around the acog scope and as you said, some could process the information but because I have an SD tv (only till xmas) It would never show outside the scope. I never had a problem with it but it might have been a slight disadvantage. [/rant]

I like my callsigns clean, I can't stand all the flowers or dragon images.

EDIT: Oh I forgot to add my actual thoughts on the game so far. Generally I've been rather pee'd off in most games, it seems that the more people have played this game the more they prefer to camp around and generally annoy the hell out of me. I have taken a shine to the TMP I've recently unlocked but all round most guns seem to suck, it takes ages to actually kill someone, although most of the time teammates end up stealing my kills.

Hey, I never said I was any good.
Infact, I'm useless, that is all.

:sly:👍

Legend - the extra recoil ACOG seems to generate? I noticed that the AUG is pretty much recoil-less with iron sights/red dot, but chuck the ACOG scope on it and it becomes useless - after one shot your gun is pointing at the ceiling.

I played for a bit tonight and used the FAL, great gun. Zero recoil, and since all he and I play is HC it was perfect.

I just got called a "🤬 camping 🤬" just before. Bit rich coming from a guy that did the Prestige hack. (and for the record, I was using a sniping class... which aren't suited to run 'n gun)

Highlight of my day.

Random question - how much bandwidth, on average, would MW2 use per hour?

Estimates I've found on the internet range from 50MB/hr to 150MB/hr...

I'm a lover of the FAL too, good gun if you whip a ACOG on it 👍
Only gun that I have picked up and dont mind with an acog, infact I might even set it up soon.

I wish to know too. If you are right that is quite alot of internet. One day my dad said that my sister and I use 300mb a day and that day I played alot of cod4 so I dunno. We have plenty to go around so it doesnt matter much.

Were not limited to bandwidth here in the states so I have never even thought about it because it doesn't matter. I pay per month with no restrictions. Some companies will sort of cap your speed if your connection is downloading for long periods, such as with torrents though, but I've only heard of one company in my area that does it. I do know from personal experience if you uncap your modem they will knock on your door within the week and tell you that your modem is faulty and they need to swap it out :)

Ahh, reminds me of the time I got called a camping 🤬 for killing the last player on the enemy team while I was guarding the bomb. :sly:
