For the life of me I can't figure out what the "candy corn" icon in B-spec means. If you know what I'm talking about, can someone please fill me in? Thanks. - Lisa

Hiya Beasley & WELCOME to the GTP Forums! 👍
Haven't "B-Speced" in a while but I "think" that Icon means the car it's closest too is closing the gap (if behind) or widening the gap (if in the lead) faster than the other cars....O.G.

I think it means that car set the fastest lap in that current sector. I'm not really sure about, though. You could be correct.

Thanks guys. Funny thing is that there are no references about it in the book or anywhere. I always figured it was an "about to lap" signifyer but last night I had it above me even though I wasn't even close to the guy ahead of me.

I like to think the corn shows that the car did the segment faster then the car in front of it.

But what I would like to know is what is that red dot in front of the "best time" in the segment/best time view.

you know the pace settings on the top, i think it means that the car its a bove is higher up than the car in front. like when i switch up to 4 the "candy corn" sybol pops up but when i switch it down i goes away

It indicates that the car is overtaking the car ahead of it. Since it is overtaking the car ahead, it will have a faster previous sector than the car ahead. It disappears when you drop the pace setting because you are no longer overtaking the car ahead.

Candy corn?

It's an ARROW, showing that the car gained significantly (more than 0.5s) in the last sector on the car in front.

How can you be overtaking without being at least close enough to slipstream? That would be like unlocking a door with your keys in your pocket.

When the one in front goes offroading eg at Infineon, Le Sarthe, Laguna Seca.....

I always took the arrow to mean that the last sector was quicker than the car immediately in front.

How about if you're driving faster than the car in front? You can do that (drive faster) whether you're 100 feet back, or 1000 feet.

Driving faster isnt exactly overtaking though, anymore than a 3 door hatch is a coupe regardless of what GM would have us believe.

i always thought it was for overtaking, but sometimes it comes on when the car is 100-200feet behind another car. can't really overtake at that distance.

and how about when the car is facing its tail to you in the garage? doesnt happen a lot, seems like it happens when i lose a race, but i'm not sure, havent payed attention much.

It does. Whenever you lose a race or fail a license mission, it happens.

I've been training Mr. Spec a lot recently and I can categorically state that the only direct correlation between events on track and the arrow appearing are when the car has gained more than 0.5s in the previous sector over the car directly in front of it, whether it's 0.6s behind or 4 hours behind.

Overtaking or slipstreaming don't come into it. It's just a pure gain of time in the last sector.

That is exactly what it means.

I always thought of it as meaning that the AI driver was really trying hard, and pushing itself to the limit...which could be the cause of those sector time differences...

Your staking quite a lot of your attitude on a simple interpretation of words. You are definitely overtaking the car in front of you if you are gaining on it. You're just not passing it yet.

I am almost 100% sure the "candy corn" arrow represents a drafting, or using the "slip stream."

Could be about over-taking but I believe it means that one car is in the slip stream of another.

This would also explain why the candy corn doesn't pop up each time a pass takes place.
This would also allow more than one car to have the candy icon.

So my vote...
Slip Stream.

Famine do you honestly study every owner's manual and the encyclopedia every minute of your life?

Apart from the minutes it takes to post, yes. :D

Kent - I had the arrow on my B-spec driver when I was 35 seconds down on the car in front going down Dottinger Hohe... (and many other similar occasions)

Well according to macquarie dictionary overtake means; to pass another car.
Im not meaning to be rude or anything but if a word means something then thats what it means, hence the bit about coupes.

just for the record

Coupe
n. an enclosed two-door motor car.

ie not a car with 3 or four doors such as an Astra, a Mercedes CSL or an RX8.

"Coupe" derives from the French for "to cut" and can refer to any car where the roofline drops dramatically to the rear of the car (not before the rear - to the rear).

Thats exactley it Famine, if you hadn't, I would have, you can have a 4 door coupe or a 5 door coupe, not a car can be a coupe and a hatchback. If a 3 door car can't be a coupe then the TVR Sagaris isn't one, but we all know thats stupid and the TVR Sagaris IS a coupe, it's also a 3 door hatchback.
