Can you do the nurburgring without crashing or spinning out

One of the things the game is missing is the ability to go back to a certain point and try it again. Especially with the Ring. You've gotta drive the whole thing over again to get to the place on the track where you need to practice.

The other thing is better question: How many times can you circle the ring without crashing.

Isn't that what the AMG Special is for? The whole track broken down in convenient sectors to practice on.

One car, one set of tires. If you learn to drive it in a '54 car on sport soft tires, will you be able to drive it in a 2010 car on Comfort soft? Or a LMP on RH or RS tires? You don't want a rewind/fast-forward function in GT5? Just about every other racing game has it.

Cool story bro.

Anyways, every once in a while I'll spin but only because I'm pushing the car to it's limits. The Nurb is very narrow making it very difficult to pass others safely, especially online.

That's quite enough for learning the Ring. With experience you can apply the lessons learned to any other car/tyres combo easily.

A fast time results from chaining together perfect corners but hardly any corner can be seen isolated. Fast is consistent and consistent is fast. You don't become consistent by training single corners.

In summary I don't see the value of rewinds other than in the context of Grid for example, where the gameplay was built around a well done, race ending damage model. It served the purpose of leveraging the severity of errors and lessen the frustration.

Sorry to say, there's no easy nor cheap way to get fast ;)

favourite quote from richard burns rally

"if you find yourself crashing around all the time, you're going too fast!.. slow down, and you'll end up with much better lap times.."

I always disable the information screen, drive from inside and use Sports Medium Tires, and I can get round in 400-500bhp cars like the m3 and amg 63 with no trouble at all.. faster cars like enzo-pagani zonda R needs a little bit more practice though..

Pretty easy once you have "memorized" the whole track. The only problem there is if you're driving a car that you're not familiar with for the first time. It'll be difficult to gauge the grip its capable of.

Twice... In a Shelby cobra 427... 969kg.... 749hp....Real track edge... Needless to say it was rather tense. I gave up after the second though. Both laps under the 7 minute mark.

Been round it so much I can practically memorise every corner. In the rain though different story lol.

Sometimes, but there is always at least one heart stopping moment per lap.

That crest that leads into the left then the tight right hander at the end of Sector 2 for me. Go too slow, you lose precious seconds. Go too fast and you become quite intimate with that red and white wall on the outside.

That corner gets Me almost every @$#%& time! Its the damn bump at the apex.

Lol, It has a habit of doing that. Just increase the ride height abit. that fastest I have taken that corner would be just shy of 300km/h. Full tuned Zonda R. Just brushed the dirt on the outside on exit, very heart stopping.

WOW! Lots of great drivers here

A well sorted car will help you achieve your goal, Sir.

I recently put together a Lexus LFA to tackle the Nordschleife. It has no downforce, so it can be a bit of a handful, but it should stick more often than not.

Lexus LFA Nordschleife Edition 550PP

If you want something a little tamer, whilst you're still learning the track. Try one of the following from the RKM guys. I've run both at the 'Ring, with slightly toned down specs. Both of them are a riot...

Civic Type R Turbo

Atenza 23RS

There are a lot of cars in the Tuning section that will drastically improve a car and your own laptimes. Dive on in, if you enjoy any of the cars, you could review for the builder and they in turn may just build you a car to order...

For sure its a rush when ya nail it. One of my favorite cars to run the ring in cockpit/ no hud is the 430 scud with rkms tune.

Oddly this is one of the few tracks i am very comfortable driving with the line off. Aside from laguna seca this is my most consistent track that way.
Aside from that corner and another left hander. Looking at the map im pretty sure its that sally of a left at wipperman. For some reason it just surprises me.

I also love driving in the lupo cup cars here.

Yea it's defiantly a great track. I am also very consistent and can be quick quick if it's a car I know. If it's a car I haven't used before or in a while, it takes me a lap to warm up to it then the second lap is a complete flyer. Just a pity the track isn't wider. Would be good having a proper clean race round there.

No, I can not. I find that if I go off the track and on to the grass, I have a tough time getting back on the track.

It depends. Im not one to use the same car over and over, so taking a high speed LMP car on the ring can put me in the grass many times. But lower power cars Im fine.
The seasonal a few weeks back, I used the Minolta. First few tries it was all over the place and ending up 5-6th(first races I have lost in months). But I kept at it and after half a dozen tries I was ending up 2nd or 3rd. So I put it TCS 1 and I had 1st place in 4min easy. I never use TCS, but it helps on the ring.

If I'm 500 pp or less, I'm pretty clean all the way around. If racing online and get a few cars side by side around some turns, it's tough not to go off the track a little.

I can get perfect laps with awesome times. Why? Because I have the patience of a 90 year old sloth, and have memorized it over the hour or so I race this track per day :D. As proof, no track map:

Left, Right Sweeper, left, right, rightleft, right, left, right, dowhill left, uphill right, kink left, downhill straight, sweeping left, right, kink left, kink right, kink left, uphill left, s turn, staightaway, downhill sweeper, left, right, banked right, left, quick s, right, kink right, hard right, hard banked left, kink right, left, uphill right, kink left, right, 2 kinks left, right, kink right, left, right, hairpin right, Karrusel, kink right, left, left s, right, left, left, right, uphill right, left, right, downhill kinks, right, left, down kinked straightaway, right, left, banked left, uphill to Downhill banked sweeper left, Huge Straight, uphill, left, downhill, left, right, kink left, right, left, hard right. REPEAT

And that's The Nordschleife. All 160 corners of it ;)

I ALMOST did a whole lap in the Pagani Zonda C12S but I spun the last set of twistys before the long straight, that car is soo hard to control on SH, but other than that, ya most of the time, depends on what I'm driving, anything with AWD or FWD is a guarantee the rest depends on power, and tire selection. I haven't done a ring run since I've gotten into touge, so I'd probably be alot better now.

first time driving in nurb is in GT4, in the license test which you have to drive a mercedez dtm, i remember hesitating so much in every corners, because of that license test, i hated that track. GT5 came out, after playing a few laps with spinning out and crashing, ive become challenged at this track, even tuning and test drive almost of all my cars here, my track beast R32 GTR was born in this track (cheesy lines huh ?), 627 hp with sport soft, i managed to memorize every sections in the ring. The point is to test drive every car you bought in nurb, and cruise around it and increase speed every lap

You sir, are amazing.

does anyone else feel that Online, vs. Offline, the Carousel has a totally different effect on the car? Online, the car seems to stall about 1/3 way into it, and spins out. even at lower speeds. I now drive around it on the top section.

Offine, no prob, can take it at 110km'hr and power exit at 160km from it.

I've driven almost all of my cars on the nürb for at least one lap, since it's usually the track where I first test my cars. All kinds of cars ranging from hatchbacks to Group C race cars. I did the 4 hour endurance with the Castrol Tom's Supra Super GT machine. My advice for learning the track is to just do the AMG Driving Academy challenges, they're perfect for learning the track. After you've done those, just keep driving. I'd recommend some relatively easy to control cars at first, with sports hard tires. If you keep going of the track or spinning, just back off a little bit. Start braking well before the corner and just concentrate on your driving line. Then just gradually start increasing the pace.

Edit: And yes, carousel has a totally different feeling when you're playing online. You have to be really careful online, unlike offline where you can really drop the car into it quite violently and start accelerating quite early.
