I haven't raced a lot recently because I don't have central air in my apartment and it's hot as **** in my living room. But I've been doing Daily Race C quite a bit this week. I've never driven Gardens II before Monday, and I actually love that layout, even though I'm quite bad at the regular Gardens.

I don't get what he was on about, entire thing is plenty weird and no your final corner is just fine. Your times are solid, that is decent pace, you're a half second up on me every lap i'd say.

In regards to Garden, man, really seeing some cultural differences at play. 12 lap race, guy behind you in 7 seconds back, guy in front of me if 7 seconds up the road, it's lap 9 .... you don't HAVE to pass the absolute second you catch me. It's just brutal and so, so predictable. Without fail, the second I am caught, said drivers try to pass IMMEDIATELY, usually a barge pass. Ever considered lining me up where you are faster and out braking me? There's a full 3 laps left.

It's exhausting.

Yeah, the big difference is waiting for the driver ahead to open the door vs forcing the door open.

Anyway I guess the penalty system is quite sensitive to bumps from behind now, even if the car ahead doesn't leave the racing surface. No big deal; obviously it's good to not hit someone when you have more momentum coming through a corner, but I had a couple minor contacts in a single race that resulted in my SR dropping from S to B. I accept the blame but, yikes.

So today I've been trying to crawl out of no man's land of Forza-esque races, and I had a pretty good race where I was able to climb up to P1 and get the win. There was only one driver that was able to match my pace, and they actually had a purple lap slightly faster than my best. The last few laps were quite intense because they consistently kept me in range and were faster in certain sections than me. I won in the end, and I thought it was a good fight, so I gave them a little "You are fast!" and the conversation played out... well, much differently than I thought it would:

What I thought was a fairly good race at the end, in reality was cheating on my part, apparently. I immediately was called a ”cheater," which surprised me because there was never any contact between us, and all I could reply with was "What??" because I had no idea how they thought I was cheating. They asked how I was faster in the final corner, which I noticed throughout the race that they were losing time on me there.

The way I take the final corner doesn't feel like some secret to me; at the very end of the outside kerb I lift off the throttle about halfway and turn in at the same time, and once I'm on a good trajectory I throttle up smoothly, usually hitting the apex right when I'm at full throttle, and I can take the rest of the turn flat out into the straight. That doesn't seem novel to me, and again, I've never driven Gardens II before Monday, so I'm still acclimating to the track. Obviously I couldn't give them a full explanation in the post-race chat so I said "Decelerate before apex?" I was never directly behind them so I don't actually know what line they were taking or why they were slower. For reference, here's a clip of how I took the final corner on my personal fastest lap of that particular race:

I don't think that was even my fastest go through that turn, because I had to modulate the accelerator more than I like to there.

I was then called a "grip cheater." I don't even know what the **** that means, so I was only becoming more confused. I don't know if there actually is some sort of grip exploit, and if there is I certainly don't know about it. They might have just pulled it out of their ass for all I know. Then I realized exactly what was going on.

"Look at the top times they take it like i do"

Here's the thing. I actively ignore the meta in this game. I don't pick cars because they're at the top of the leaderboard, I rarely look at the top times except to see how far off I am, and I sure as hell don't watch leaderboard laps. I know a lot of people do so to try to improve and there's nothing wrong with that. However, I'm deeply paranoid that if I try to mimic what the top drivers do, it's going to give me a false sense of security that I must be improving as a driver; if I rely on the meta cars and try to mimic top laps, it will leave a massive blindspot in how I perceive my own skill level, because I won't be able to tell if I'm actually improving my racecraft, or if I'm successful simply because I'm in the best car, and trying to mimic the top laps when my driving style could be completely different from those drivers.

And that's exactly what's happened here. I kind of felt bad that they didn't understand that. "How am i slower" They were incredulous; I don't know if they were using a meta car for this race, but they were clearly studying the fastest laps of the top drivers, and made the assumption that they were taking the only correct line through the final corner because the top drivers did it that way, and if someone took a different line faster, then they must have been cheating, of course. Again, I have no idea what line the top drivers take through that corner or any part of the circuit. I'm sure whatever the top drivers do is indeed faster than what I do. But just because you try to study and mimic what they do doesn't mean you understand why it's faster. And if you don't understand why, then you probably aren't going to be able to execute it properly anyway.

I wish I could have actually explained that to them, because they were quite fast. But they also accused me of being a cheater, so all I managed to type was "**** top times," which was not an insult directed at them in any capacity, but they replied "Yeah **** u too cheater," and apparently reported me for "grip cheat."

Oh how I've missed this game.

I wish I could like this more than one time

THe thing is, it's a track that breeds errors, the door WILL open, 100pc it will. I have not made one single traditional pass, I just wait for the guy in front to go wide or whatever, it's highly technical and the tyres get pretty bad by lap 9, guys will make errors. Gimmie half a lap, i'll make an error. But no, baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarge.

Thing is, you KNOW it is going to happen.

It's really disappointing when it's a fast driver doing it to you when they should know better. The only time I make questionable passes is when the person in front is intentionally holding me up and swerving to prevent me from passing when I'm outpacing them. I try to be patient, but I can only wait so long when a queue is building behind me.

Sweet! I’ll be on in about 1.5-2h if you’re still racing. 👍

I do the exact opposite, I copy the top times to the letter, and always use the best car for a race. Why voluntarily give up time when you don’t have to? Would you drive a nail with a screw driver? The way I see it, the top guys are fast because of how they drive, So if I want to be fast, doing the same things as them is the way to do it, or they wouldn’t be doing it that way. :)

As for the “Grip Cheater” comment, there isn’t one, he was just sour that you beat him.

I don’t watch top tens or chase ghosts. I run the racing line, my way that I believe is best for my ability. I also generally spurn the meta.
There’s one lap fast and there’s race fast and they are different.
That was a great posting I enjoyed reading it.
Except for accolades I pay no attention to chat.
That is all.
:)

I get distracted very easily, so ghosts only do more harm than good for me. I honestly wish GT Sport had HUD customization, I could do without maybe 75% of onscreen information and would probably benefit from it. I drive PC2, AC, Dirt Rally 2.0, and WRC 8 with minimal HUD and I find it much easier to maintain focus. It's even better when I can quickly toggle it off and on. The only information I really want at all times is Radar and current gear, but since I do GT3 most of the time I can see the gear on the wheel/dash.

Yup, these days I just race at my pace. Always fun to see some familiar handles when I get dropped into a lobby (you picked up a random follower from last night). Trust I didn't hold you up on your way by - usually go for a fun bit of side by side then give the position to the fast & mannered. The rude ones seem to have a harder time getting by for some reason.

Also found some GTPlanet liveries, but won't use them until I am consistently finishing at a higher level - don't want to represent if I can't deliver the goods. That said, would be great to run a race with a bunch in the grid.

No matter your finishing position, you still represent, by racing clean. 👍

Oh, you're missing out. The chat is a great place to antagonize and threaten the other drivers.
I'm not capable of just holding it in, when someone really pisses me off during a race.

If I had a keyboard somehow connected I can assure you I’d be banned from PSN.
When I was demoted to B SR after that one race it was quite funny tho.
2 schools of comment...Half of the touch my car and it’s war people and half PLEASE let’s have a clean race lol!

Edit @astrarobotica I love dr2 how’s wrc8?

Mostly, it's a deterrent. A lot of times when I let someone know that they just woke a sleeping bear, they'll crash themselves next time I get close to them.
About 30 minutes ago, after someone roughed me up and punted me into the sand, I asked him if we were done, or if it's on? He just didn't show up to the next race.

I really enjoy it. Less car variety (WRC Juinor, WRC2, and WRC, plus a couple classic cars), but there are 14 rallies based on the actual WRC calendar. It's hard to articulate the nuances between the handling models of the two games, but I don't feel like one is necessarily harder/easier, or more or less realistic than the other. The career mode is pretty cool. It's definitely worth it for the variety in rallies alone.

For Race C how's the Mazda with fuel and tyres? Managed to qualify it to a 1:38.1 with some time to find in the first sec of left handers and the hairpin in the middle sector, but no idea what it's like in the race

, we better enjoy race C while it last because sooner we are going back to FF fest , this week is the first ive been trying multiple cars in races and i really enjoy it, run both 650s , viper , m4 , f pace , altenza ,huracan , megane. my qualy time was 39.1 until i tried the mighty wrx , i quickly pulled a 38.2 and it wasnt a perfect lap, the 4wd/awd are the way to go for me, i can take some turns flatout without lifting to turn in,

and just like everybody this week, I’m not doing race b or a

Fuel is not an issue; however, the status of my front left by Lap 9/10 starts becoming an issue - first turn, the bend up the hill after 4 corners, the hard right, the dives into and out of the chicane, and the final sweeper in particular put a beating on it.

Looking for an alternate ride. M4, Megane Trophy, and possibly 4C will be tested out later to see how well they can survive at pace/my driving style (BB-3, two foot driving with both gas + trailbrake to maintain balance, not as smooth as I could be).

Off for a sunday drive in race C then see if anyone is around race A in NA

Man is race C awful if you dont know the track!
Especially when the people trying to race super hard know it even less than you do. It was almost easier on Fuji.:odd:

You ever seen one of those videos where someone goes speeding past an unmarked police car, and then immediately gets lit up? Well, this is sort of like that. Some clown made the mistake of punting a dear friend of mine, right in front of me (I know it was intentional because he was cursing at him before the race started). Well, at that point my race was over because I just saw red!
I was happy to take that penalty. 👍

Target left a cars width on the inside, I'd say your move is fair 👍

To give back the position after a crappy pass or not.

I tried just now although I didn't really feel like it was all my fault. There was still over half the road left on the outside, it would help if people stopped taking corners sideways haha. But we made contact, he went off, I slowed down on the side and confusion ensued which only made things worse. Both of us off our lines, traffic coming from behind, all around mess.

I'm in SR.A atm, awareness level is a lot lower than in SR.C, go figure. Got to be very careful with people turning in on me. It could also be the time of day. At 70 Sr.

And back to SR.B. Two very dirty individuals in the SR.A race. One bumped me 2, 3 times then pushed me so tight into the wall my car came to a dead stop. Of course I get the penalty, he gets a blue S and the victory. This game lol. Oh well, out of this dirty SR.A mess, back to SR.B crap fest lol.

It's dirty hour for sure. SR 43 after that race, -27 SR.

And then a victory with clean race bonus in SR B, racing clean aware drivers. It makes no sense. Well actually, the pole sitter in the SR.A lobby was likely a dirty driver that fell out of 99 SR, thus got pole in SR.A. Still dirty and knows how to get away with it. The thou shalt not pass kind.

I think the guy that got you in my race was a D/c as he vanished lap 5 while in p2.
