This is the discussion thread for a recent post on GTPlanet:
This article was published by Andrew Evans (@Famine) on August 31st, 2020 in the Gran Turismo Sport category.

Looking forward to the Gr4 races at the 'Ring... a bit of an uncommon combination, but maybe more relevant to popular real racing at that track... should be fun. (PS: I wish the game would offer a Gr4 911 to race, as an option, instead of only the Cayman...)

Got to admit, big willow was mega fun , lots of great racing, i think its always a blast when strategy comes into play

however this was my most controversial moment of the week

Had to watch the replay and took some pictures and i still cant figure it out why the game gifted him the win , unless the speed trap is what decided the winner

Weird, but I suspect the issue is latency between the server and machines, all of which must have stacked up to a bigger gap than the actual gap between you and crg88x! Fun finish, though it looks like you were robbed of a win! I enjoyed the races there, they were typically good for some good close racing.

And along came the Nord..

I guess thats the only issue that held me back, because my net was on bar 3 and he was on full 5 , damn i will miss this track for sure ,

Another guide for you, although I just show the race for nords, I'm not doing a 50 minute track guide haha :p!

Can confirm: Race A at Tokyo is toxic... stay away.

Race B at the 'Ring has potential to be a real fun place all week... but the current penalty system is so stupid, with its SR downs for nominal contact from behind. It's damn near impossible to set up a pass at the Ring, even if someone goes a bit off track, without risking a slight touch on the bumper ahead of you... so to get an SR down every time it happens is a real drag and buzzkill in an otherwise fun race.

I also had a really weird penalty + SR down on the final long straight with very incidental contact from behind, which lurched my car ahead and cost me a position and another 10 SR down, which was complete nonsense.

But I expect to race it a bit more as the week goes on, and to try to put in a K' target lap time, which seems more possible than I expected.

Bathurst: not going to do it. I am terrible there. It's a hopeless combo for me.

What's up with all the TT Cups :yuck:

They disappeared after the penalty system dumped me to SR.D. Much better racing too, including a victory in SR.C. I'm driving the Vette, TT cup yuck. Back to FS 2020, much smoother at 12 to 20 fps than sport mode with South American lag :ouch:

Raced my first few races of the week earlier. Put down a really good lap, for me, at the nord. Loving the gr4 here. Running the Aston since it works well, and I have seat time from last week. 7:15 and I left a ton of time almost everywhere, but no major mistakes. Definitely rewards braking/setting up early to get your line right. Wanted to see how the competition was behaving, so I was running from the back on my alt. A big SR killer, though SOME of it was my fault. In 2 of 3 races I went off trying to avoid the divebomb. One happened just over 2 minutes in and I was up to 3rd at the time. Ended up battling outside of the top 10 most of the race, and finished 9th. Best finish, and cleanest race was a 5th. Went from a low S to D in 3 races. I might have to see where my time will put me in an A grid. If I can get through the first section clean, I may be able to run near the front, as long as I dont have to start outside of the top 5. One plus is that the Aston seems to handle well with 2 tires on the curb, and 2 in the dirt at the apex, so I can create a passing zone when I have a bunch of speed on someone. My technique of faking out the blockers is improving. Fake outside, then inside when they bite...maybe a lift to get the turn in, and as long as I have the curb clear at the apex, I'm by. Works well with blockers...not so much with clean racers protecting the line. For them, I just try to get the killer drive off a corner with a straight after it. Hope to see some of you out there this week. Maybe we can all race from the back in a B/D room...unless I get a DR reset...

Seriously, worst N ring daily race ever. Overaggressive TT cup drivers and pointless penalties make this the race to avoid. I've had better luck in race A surprisingly.
What region are you driving in? I drove late last evening in EMEA and yes, full of TT's but it was clean in every race.
Then I drove 3 races in NA and it was a lot more dirty. But the only penalties I saw was justified except one.
One guy sideswiped me as I tried to pass him for the umptiest time and I bounced back from the rail and we both went off. He got 2 seconds, that was fair I think.
Another guy I slipstreamed on the straight he send me into the rail as we braked and got 4 seconds. Just in my book.
The one I think was bad was me trying to pass at the top of the back straight, then we hit each other and I went off while he kept going.
I got 4 seconds for forcing a vehicle off track. I assume they ment mine...

But all and all the Nord has been clean for me.
Have you qualified?

Doing the Nord this week even though Race C is very tempting.

Did few quay laps and standing at 11.8. Just enough to start in the front pack, (so far)

Tried the TT, got good pace but I found myself back with the M4 for faster pace. Managed a win last night after the lead driver made a mistake where I gained the lead and carried it to the finish line.

Can’t get enough of the Ring/Nordschleife.

I did several N24 races yesterday, 1 in the BMW and 2 in the TT, all clean apart from a GT-R accidentally swiping me off the track. I qualified (7:10, already pretty meh) which may have made a difference to how clean races were. If I'm behind and in front of similar paced players, chances of us making contact with one another is decreased. Not an 'SR killer' from my experience.

Gee Bathurst is absolutely joyless. I admire the effort to make it different but I cannot see a damn thing, braking is a nightmare, i have no idea where my markers are half the time. It's basically a hot lapping exercise, racing is pointless, just ends in tears as both parties are flying blind.

You can adjust the brightness on your tv to add a bit more light, this should make it easier to see your markers.
