No less than 7 taps trying to upset / move my car from behind while coming from outside the track. Then I get a penalty...

First lap I already had to slow down to a crawl as the Brazilian was playing bumper match with the Argentinian in front of him. It's just bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, oh I guess he won't move.

the South Americans are definitely dirty but there are a lot of dirty Canadians as well. I've reported plenty but PD doesn't give a **** about it, they're just happy people are playing the game.

no races for me last night or today. as far as time spent on gt sport, while it is my most played game i do have others that need time and attention. plus like others i have a full time job and a wife, no kids for me though. i probably average a few hours per session but can go a few days or a week without playing. i know with more time put in i could improve my skills, and i am constantly trying to challenge myself to so when i get extended time with the game. I have always been a time trials guy till gt sport and still put a lot of time in hot lapping cuse i tend to only race if i am alone or the wife and dog are still asleep. getting involved in the conversation here has certainly helped me to think about what i am doing differently

True some dirty Canadians AND Americans just IMHO when servers were split us Canadians & American seemed to get along better in general. Nowadays everybody is pissed off nobody seems to care about stats anymore EDIT unless you so good you fast enough not to get touched.

You got a winner there. Doesn't look like he'll be bugging you in SR.S though. The problem is the dirty drivers that keep returning to SR.S. That level of dirty up there keeps him safely in the lower ranks.

Practice hard, qualify up front is a solution. It doesn't make the most exciting races though. My brief trip to A+ was on the Nordschleife, my best track, good qualy time, over half my races were lonely stints out front, triple star races. I don't mind hotlapping on the Nord yet any other track that's just too boring and I end up driving into a wall :)

A fun race involves multiple clean close battles, or even one is enough. Multi lap clean battles are the best. However my past 4 races on DT, all bumped and rammed by dirty drivers. One more try, the SR.S crowd is just not into it today.

Again, to be clear, I’m always going to avoid all contact to the best of my ability, UNLESS I am 80 percent or more certain I got purposely shafted. Then I will take that person out at first opportunity.
There’s basically only one thing you can do and that’s race in control. If you’re not in control, like the game says, SLOW DOWN.
Fair racing is great fun, regardless of lap time. That’s why I play. A fun race can be a battle for last.
Winning by bashing isn’t fun.

It amazes me that you can tolerate that.

Yup. Ive done the accept the dirty hit and to just show him up thing. I catch back up and cut a clean overtake like "that's how its done son" just for them to punt me next corner all like "oh yeah pass me we will see about that" at this point I cant help but return the favor, in some cases Ill wait fir them to recover and punt them again. Practically stop n wait again, let then by so I can punt them again until the race is over or they rage quite.

I swear I did this last night with this guy and after the race he asked if he could send me a friend request Lmfao

Broken penalty system is still better than no penalty system.

I absolutely live by this. Whenever I see anyone complain about the penalty system this is my first thought. I know it can be very frustrating but the destruction derby of games without a penalty system is far far far worse.

I'm also sure PD want to get it right, which is why they tweak it so often. Unfortunately any system can be gamed when it's understood.

@K3Tuning: Was your first win not your first milestone?:D

@GTP_TO Blue: Clearly that penalty was for being on the same track at the same time as another car. Sure, poor ole @Sven Jurgens gets penalties just for appearing in the lobby.

@Groundfish: Yes, I have actually had some of my best races when I'm in at a driver rating where I'm competitive but not out of my dept so to be fair, sometimes getting my DR as high as I can by constantly pushing also means I've ended up in races where I was only hanging onto the back of the field and not really having fun.

Thanks for all the info and replies fellas, it’s much appreciated! :)

I’ve been searching the internet for racing books this morning on break and have come up with these one so far, I’m gonna try the first one first, it sounds like the most interesting and informative one. I haven’t read a book since elementary school so this should be interesting lol. I can read on the internet for hours but books make my head hurt for some reason, but I’ve gotta try something. I want to get to the next level and I’m determined to get there! So if books are the way, then that’s what I’ll do. :)

Race C.

Someone crashes and is in the middle of the track as a ghost. Somehow the game decides that for me the car is not a ghost and I crash into it and get a 5 second penalty and drop from SR S to SR A. Nice.

This blows my mind when it happens, what a horrible bit of game design and I think even a junior games developer could code a solution to this in an hour or so.

I love how everybody is just revealing the devil inside them, this morning. As far as dirty racing, it's about the same at all levels. The notion that S guys are the cleanest is a farce. I think a lot of the lower level guys, are where they are because many of them just don't have the skill to keep out of trouble. S guys are usually more calculated and strategic about their assaults.

I've mentioned, previously that there are 2 guys who've earned their way onto my permanent "punt on sight" list. Something I failed to mention, but now seems relevant in this current atmosphere, is that both of those scumbags are A+/S. Not meant to be a stereotype, at all. Most A+ drivers I'm acquainted with are cool guys.

He was bumping me from off track, I stayed on the track. There was contact with one car outside track limits, therefore the penalty system sees it as me bumping him off the road...

Finally, clean race bonus, good finish, nice battles along the way except for one driver that felt it necessary to push me into the wall in the final lap to prevent me overtaking. The penalty system got it right and gave him 1 sec penalty, enough to pass him at the finish. Sometimes it works.

I dont consider it cuz it was also my first race and was a lone trip out front on Blue Moon Bay in the old Corveter split window. Yeah I guess it is but dodnt feel like I worked for anything where as the 100 took some weeks of racing to stack up..

You're right tho

So I thought I'd give the Veyron a go in Race B. In hind sight I should have done a little more practice first rather than just a couple of laps. I could lap in the 1:47's so thought I'd be okay. Sadly not! The mid-pack battle was brutal and I couldn't get the first left into the uphill esses quite right which is critical for decent lap times.

I thought I managed to stay out of all the barging going on around me but at the end my SR had dropped from 99 to 77! I need to repair that before tonights FIA race....

The Veyron can certainly stand up against the field of Huracan's. It's straight line speed is superior but just need to sort out the esses before I do another race. It really was a brutal race though and I lost count of how many casualties the chicane claimed. Why some people go through there 2 or even 3 wide I'll never understand.

All good fun though
Ah yes, a fellow Veyron sibling! :D
During my races last night, I was able to close the gap at the back and main straights, and then the leading Huracans broke away from me at the turns.

Feels like I'm driving a rhino.

I've over 380 races, generally finish well (25% top 5) but only 1 win...Fiat 500 around Monza. I'll take that milestone if it's all I got.

Good finds and Technique is paramount.

Only issue with real world stuff translating into video games is you have to use your eyes hands and ears to replace your Butt. Really though everything is felt through your core and much of my real world driving experience revolves around this where in video games I dont have a rig let alone one capable of relaying all you feel in the real cars.

Dude, you are fast. IMHO you will be better off getting off the crack now and take full control of your car. Short term pain for long term gain. I went through the same thing myself back in GT5 and never looked back.
Thank you for the encouragement. I won't know what I'm really capable of until I can get off of the D pad and button inputs. I bought a new wheel and pedal setup at Christmastime, because it was half-price. I used it for about 10 minutes, and left it to collect dust. I found that it's useless until I can mount it to something solid. I guess I'll get one of those Playseats. Maybe I'll go to Gamestop, one of these days and see if they have them.

I can hot lap or race. I usually get 0-3 hours on weekdays...weekends 0-5 hours. Last night I did about 40 laps at the A race trying to better my 47.4xx. Best lap was a high 47.5, did a bunch of .6's and higher. 80%+ were in the 47's but I couldn't improve, so I raced. Gridded P4, pole was a 47.1xx, then a couple of 47.3's, and behind me to 11th place were all 47's. Ended up finishing badly, though I think I had the pace to run up front. I got tagged from behind on L1 T1 and ended up around 10th, got some positions back, then a guy with a pretty green flag by his name hit my passenger door at full speed in the last turn and gave me a 5 second penalty to go with my last place position. Finished 12th. 2 C races wren't much better. I had a GT-R kill both of those. He was braking early with no entry speed, and I got knocked off waiting for him. Still need to calm down after these events so I don't blow it with dirty tires. 2 more 12th place finishes, but up 1 and 2 spots at least. Ran the SLS, but it gulps fuel, so probably not the best choice. Might try the Alfa tonight and see if it has superior cornering. If so, I'll just try to pass clean and stay out of trouble, let the cards fall where they may. It's worked before!

I've had a couple of really fun nights at DT. I love Gr. 4, and with the update, I am all of a sudden reliably fast in the Corvette. (Need to do some liveries...) I'm running 1:49's, and being gridded mid-pack, but for some reason Kaz is giving me ridiculous door numbers- I was #2 in one race last night despite being gridded 9th and 3 seconds off the pole lap. WTH? In other news, the racing was really good- ran a bunch of events with the same crew. The guys in the black M4 and the purple GT-R are now on my "Respected Racer" list. Still getting odd SR down indicators after being tagged from behind, but the penalty logic seems much more rational. Having fun!

you can usually find used playseats on Kijiji in Canada and Craigslist in the USA. It's a seat so there's rally not much to degrade so buying used isn't a big deal, that's how I bought mine for half the price of a new one. He also threw in a free G27 and I used the shifter on my G29.

@WheelmanSteve door numbers are most probably sorted alphabetically, which means that for example DR 7600 will get a lower number than DR 75000. It’s best not to pay attention to this “ranking”.

@Melbourne Park
Went from last to first in the pits. Everyone had 15-20%. I had 53% end of lap 5. First place pitted one lap later and I came out front with the Huracan and FT-1 battling for two laps. Huracan had straightline speed and good punch once hooked up. Atenza had the better handling and brakes through all the turns. I gave up the lead on the back straight. GAined it back on last lap. Picked my line and didn't block but still got bumped for an orange arrow. Huracan got a run at the back straight, but I could get it out of the final chicane. Just a bit too early on the brakes cost me speed for my exit. All good. Third place thought I didn't pit.

Car handled great, as front tyres were well above half worn and I could push before the pit stop and had tyres in reserve, to push towards the finish.

I’d happily draw you up a complete set of plans to your personal specs for a DIY rig if you’re interested. :)

@sturk0167
Something like this is easily built in half a day for $100 cad. Leather seat out of a Mercedes was about $30 at a U pull yard.

I look pretty good for 52, eh?

Edit:
The rig has been modified since that pic. There is now a pedal platform at about 20deg with the CSL Elite LC pedals mounted to it.
