SR deductions don't seem too bad at this week's race A. I only lost 10 SR points from 2 SR downs in my last race.
One was for having somebody dive to my inside and hit me, and one was for when I returned the favor. 👍

Time to write a big thank you to the crowd here. A year ago was the last time I bottomed out at DR 1. Had started lurking around the website a bit earlier reading posts and articles trying to understand why I sucked so bad and what I needed to practice, look for and learn to get better.

I found fun messages, good discussions, amd all the tips I needed to help point me in the right place. Plenty of good times and a great chance to learn from everyone, as whether DR D or up to A+ was willing to share what they found and knew. From racing to the livery editor. I have raced my way far higher than I thought I could, and threw it away on a stupid night to do it again.

Thanks out there, stay safe, have fun and thanks for all the good stuff so far and more to come.

Just don't get rubbed on the inside coming onto the home straight in Race A

Had a car on my inside that pushed me towards the wall. Held my ground but in turn got given SR down and a 3 second penalty; but no explanation.

Not a problem. I've been going really low at that turn. seems like a lot of people don't know you can put all 4 tires inside of that curb without penalty. There are two other turns that are the same.

That's about the same time I found the forum. I have learned a lot from the crowd here, I have found friends and fellow drivers, I continue to learn and above all I am having a lot of fun with the game and people from here.
Thank you all!!

I'm waiting for this weeks slipstream update reduction update until I race again. Last raced at Le Sarthe just over a week ago. In 4 races I had one pole, one server disconnect in entering the lobby, and to top it off... the absolute cherry on the cake... I won, followed by the game freezing and crashing on the podium screen. Therefore my win didn't count.

As you can tell, I was not impressed. Far from it. But, regardless of this I am looking forward to the update. Haven't played much in the last few weeks. Hopefully this new update incoming means better racing for us all. With less slipstream effect it should mean that slower and dirtier drivers can't pull you in like they have DRS and NOS fitted under the hood. My thinking is that it should lead to less desperation divebombs as, in my opinion, the slipstream as is gives slower drivers a false sense of how fast they are. Possibly thinking they are much faster than you so they just chuck it down the inside at any cost. Leading to crashes, punts and losing everyone time.

So here's hoping. I've missed the 0.7 slipstream of the past. I feel it should be 0.7 and very weak for Gr3 and below. Gr1 and 2 could keep the 1.5 second version but dial it WAY down in strength. Ideally, i'd be happy with that. Will lead to better racing and driving.

(I hope).

Here's a post you won't see very often. Wishing I had a penalty.
The game should have definitely penalized me here. It's Monday, so I haven't yet figured out all the things not to do.
I made a dumb mistake. Initially it was okay, and it may have worked out if I slowed down a little sooner.
He was innocent, and I ended up bashing him into the wall. :(
I ended up with a clean race bonus. Stupid game

I waited over 2 months to post this here.

I know it's a really common gripe but I'm getting really tired of my SR going down because other people run into me. I really hope they address that in some way in the update.

SR downs are the only way to keep the dirty drivers out of the higher SR lobbies, if it’s too easy to gain or keep then SR becomes meaningless like it was for a long time before they just updated it recently.

How do you teach the game to distinguish between someone who is late braking on the inside and someone who is cutting into a turn without checking their radar? That's really what we're asking for. I'm trying to swallow my pride because this morning's races sucked. I'm pissed. I know we're asking for something that normally needs to be judged by a human eye.

I get that. But Fuji's been killing my SR today. I'm fine with shared SR down for most contact but at least 4 times today I was halfway through a turn and someone comes barreling into me. Not only do I get knocked into a spin that loses me a ton of time, I get an SR down arrow. Twice I also got a penalty to go with it. I'm literally just starting to press the throttle out of turn, get t-boned or PIT maneuvered and get assessed a SR penalty for it. There has to be some way to code for that - who was ahead, who's one the racing line, who's at the "correct" speed range for the corner, who's coming from off the racing line onto the racing line causing the collision, I mean there's a ton of variables that point to the person causing the carnage and deserving of an SR down.

This is all well and good if SR down blame assignment was directed at the correct party and many times it isn't. It's keeping clean drivers out of high SR lobbies as well. Today I've had cleaner races at SR B than S so I think many others have been placed in a similar situation as I.

Although I do agree SR needs more meaning, it's just that under the current system, it's become kind of backward. Way back, I'd laugh at the thought of having cleaner races at SR B than S but not now.

Algorithms are a much better judge than the human eye, but they need context. The penalty system in GTS doesn't have any context, it doesn't even know where the corners are. The server only sees contact, plus a result from that contact, one car going faster, going off track or losing position.

Instead an algorithm can perfectly calculate at what speed it would still be possible to make a corner, whether overlap was established before the turn in point for that particular car and corner. With the data synchronized on the server, while the server runs the simulation as well with pre-calculated information for all the cars that can be used on that track, it can certainly tell whether someone brakes on time for their entry vector, too late or far too early.

These rules are pretty clear
https://f1metrics.wordpress.com/2014/08/28/the-rules-of-racing/
With synchronized data on the server, with track knowledge and state of the cars involved (type, current tire wear, fuel weight) plus driver inputs the server can definitely tell what is a dive bomb and what is not.

Maybe GTS 2 or GT7 will have servers that do more than be a glorified router to try to solve this problem. Of course excessive lag will still mess things up and the question becomes who is to blame incidents involving lag spikes. But there's plenty to fix before getting to that.

It's not a simple problem, it involves a lot of context, which is why currently the human eye is a much better judge. Yet all that context can be added to make a proper decision. The game can already drive 19 AI cars over the track without colliding while also avoiding the player, there's plenty knowledge there to be used. It's not perfect of course as the AI tends to brake in odd places and mid corner, yet that's a matter of fine tuning the context and improving the algorithms.

However there are plenty easier to solve collisions that are still completely wrong.

We're asking for something that needs some real resources to be solved. The current implementation simply can never work no matter how it is tweaked. I'm curious what the next update brings. We've been stuck with tweaks of the current system for almost 2 years, all variations of a blind server trying to judge collisions based on outcome. It's been a while, perhaps there will be a new system.

Jesus the Mini is awful. It somehow handles worse than the other FWD cars in this game and what the hell is up with the default LSD settings? Any flick of the wheel beyond 15 degrees on throttle leads to wheelspin. So unpleasant and unsatisfying to drive.
4th gear is my friend. I use that into T1-T3. 3rd gear for the hairpin. 2nd gear into the double left-hander and short shift to 3rd exiting the double left-hander. 4th gear into 5th, thru the final turn. Pole, FL, CRB. Won by 10 seconds. ;)
