For a little positive spin on c race...The 86 physics are fantastically detailed (ffb too)
I had a ton of fun on the Autopolis at all sr.
Re tire wear...(I ran tcs 3 bb0 every race-yes bragging :)). Wear and times-finished second to Mopar who was low 14 and fl I think 13.7???might have been lower...The 86 is probably one of the best cars to drive imo to improve technique in GTS. A pure joy! My pb overall was 18:03.977 but that was no traffic at D E.
The 2 17 here got dove on at turn one, pissed me off because it let Mopar continue alone at the front. I reposed and took second but tires wise this was typical, it could be done better but anyhow...I look forward always to tire wear.
My q time same with tcs 3 at just sub 13. You can adapt your driving style to the tcs system, with practice and it’s good for tire wear.

I've also had a bunch of wins from the back this week. Nice to race with gentlemen...and women. I was about to brag that I've gotten better with my tires, and I have, but you finished on tires that were about how mine are after lap 6. I guess I still have a ways to go. I did manage to take a bit of time off of my Q. I'm only .3 from the top 10, so I may have to put some laps in. One day...
I did get called a dirtbag in a C race yesterday. Started on pole with an S driver behind me that had a 12.8 Q. I always seem to have problems with S drivers.

Funny thing is I wasn't really trying to manage my tires, but I did learn very quickly that if you push this car too hard things go downhill. So I was trying to apply and release the brake very gently and any time I used 100% braking I was making sure my wheel was straight. It's too easy to slide this car and lose a ton of time as well as tire life.

Sorry to hear you have problems with S drivers. Dailies can be pretty brutal, and I know from experience that it can get frustrating being matched against C and D-rated drivers just because our SR is 99...which often results in a punt or two, especially when it's a grid start in a road car with a sketchy T1. I don't really mind driving against people of all ranks, but I know what to expect and I'd rather race against a full grid of mixed ratings than not having anyone to race at all if they limited it to A or A+ and up. For the most part, I had some really clean and respectful racing with the guys in the top half of the grid once I weaved through all the mayhem on the first couple laps.

Nice work... pretty impressive speed. You're about a second a lap or more faster than me, even with one of my best when comparing my top times to the leaderboards. I couldn't manage a win from behind like that for sure, I have to hope I can hold onto something from the top 3 spots in qualifying to earn a win.

Do you race in the 3rd person view?!? I am surprised, as fast as you are, that you do. I can't do it... there's too much latency in the view and I never feel connected. It is nice to see how close you really are to people and track limits, though.

I'm surprised we've never been matched. I must have just missed you yesterday as I was racing in the same race against a few of those same fellows.

Hey, thanks for watching and for the compliments! I'm not really sure how fast my qualy time would be if I set one. What I normally do when I want to race from the back is I get on my main account and run a handful of hot laps until I feel comfortable with the track and car, then I watch one of the top 10 replays before revisiting the qualy session for a few more laps to see how much I can improve. Usually no more than 20 laps total but on a long track and car combo like this one I'd say it was closer to 8-10 laps. I got a 2:13.4, but I know that's not optimal because my fastest lap in-race yesterday was a 2:13.8 without slipstream. I'm guessing maybe that's equal to a low 2:12.xx qualy time? I dunno, but I do tend to prefer the real grip in-race so I feel like my race pace is probably a little better than what my best qualy time would indicate. I was catching guys with qualy times in the high 12's but those were the best times I saw on the starting grid all day. Sorry I missed you but I'm sure we'll see more of each other soon.

Also a shameful yes...I do use chase cam. I know it's not the most popular but there are a handful of super fast guys who do use it....some of them are world tour level, so I don't get discouraged when people poke fun and even poke fun at myself occasionally. I have gotten used to the latency over time, but it was a real challenge learning that there is basically an offset I have to apply. The biggest challenge for chase cam users is overcoming the urge to keep your wheel turned for too long when exiting corners, because you tend to view the rear end of the car as if it's the front end and your instincts tell you not to unwind until you can see the whole car coming out of the apex, rather than just the front wheels which are doing the turning. It took me awhile to learn to drive without TCS because of this, but I've got it down pretty well now.
 
Had a mixed week at Spa, some strong finishes, no wins but on the podium quite a few times. SR took a battering Wednesday eve so took a few nights off. It still the minor rear ending causing my SR down.
Having a few races this evening, SR building steadily, he say's :lol:
Using the Jag, had some good results with the Aston too. Once again there doesn't seem to be a meta in the group's I'm racing with, a fair variety of cars seem competitive.
Next week's races looking good, will be racing at all 3 circuit's :cheers:

I only tried Race B once. My quali time there wasn't the greatest (2:27.7), but I was lucky enough to start in P2 so I was past the chicane. Of course I was door #1 so I had to win the race to gain any DR.

P1 made a mistake and got a .5s penalty on the 2nd lap for going wide on his entry into Blanchimont. He had dirty tires after that heading into the chicane and was all kinds of unsettled, so I overtook him there and managed to keep the lead for the rest of the race, getting the win.

Gained a few hundred DR and that put me at 67k. Figured I'd quit there and move on to Race C which I enjoyed quite a bit more. If only Spa was a grid start, man that would be a lot of fun.

I really think ^^those are fantastic points.
I would say if a persons looking to improve run some sport mode qual at tcs 3, if you feel power getting cut you are making a mistake of some sort upsetting the cars balance. Jmo might be worth doing even if you never plan to have it on in race...

I cant race this car with TC on. I use the throttle to steer...tighten my line...so i can release the steering. That race time is awesome. I think my best was about 2 seconds slower. I rarely get into the 13's in a race. Maybe on lap 2 or 3 when in the clear. My last lap is rarely in the 14's due to tires, and 16's are common. Maybe I'll see some of you out there tonight. I'll be in the purple car with the yellw stripe, either starting near the front, or if it gets sketchy, mid pack on my alt, since I blew through start finish in a warmup and screwed up my no Q...again.
 
New wheel is taking a little getting used to, it's not as loose as my old one and the pedals are very stiff but I did just better my Q time with it on A.
 
Race A in the Minis and Race C in the Toybaru 86 have both been good for some things I have been working on to improve my speed in this game:

The game seems to penalize any trailing throttle and its impact on the ability to rotate the car especially in low speed situations. I think it's somewhat unrealistic but that's how the physics are modeled, I've learned. I have a bad habit of keeping too much throttle on the trail braking, and the throttle pedal mapping on the G29 makes it kind of harder than it should be. (note: as to whether this is a realistic bit of physics or a game parameter that isn't 'quite right' would be a fun discussion with people who have noticed it... just as the game doesn't allow the brakes to be overpowered by the throttle at all, when at a dead stop, I think there is some unrealistic modeling of the cars at light throttle, where it would be possible to still work the weight transfer under braking and thus rotate it even when the throttle isn't at dead 0%, but the game sure seem to prohibit it very stubbornly... but maybe I'm making excuses here!) (also note: I think this is one area that DS4 users wouldn't know it, but there is a slight advantage here, compared to a wheel, because it would be unnatural to control the car with the controller in a way that this would even come up, but reasonable to do so with a wheel, yet the game makes it harder, and because of a bad physics model, IMO).

2) Throttle modulation on exit and transfer when leaving the brake pedal. The game really seems to favor getting on the throttle early, assuming you've not overdriven the corner in the first place.

Both of these cars and the tracks are really good combos for practicing being better and more deliberate about both. Been a good week. I've put in my 2nd and 4th best qualifying times ever, out of 76 Daily Race events so far (based on % delta as K' calculates)... and bumped by K' Speed Score to over 75 with a decent time at Spa as well. Not sure if next week's events will be as rewarding but this was a good one.

I did a few c races in the S sr rooms tonight from top five on the grid.
Great racing! Four and five way battles for the podium? Check. Side by sides? Check. Position changes? Check.
I just gotta say I think that the penalty system has improved driving standards.
Players that previously maintained S and perpetually ruined lobbies at 99 are suddenly absent from those lobbies! Watch out at sr B tho! There’s a lot of those jerks stuck in there, now!

Well I didn't get the whole half second but I went from a .730 to .35. Definitely more there but I can't quite put a whole lap of good turns together.

I swapped my clutch and throttle springs and now my throttle modulation and stuff is 10x better. The default spring is so soft that i would go 0-100 on the throttle to quick and spin or i would have it slightly pressed down when i should be off the gas. Was really helpful for me.
 
Some jerk with a 12.4xx quali time decided to spoil my pole position! Maybe after getting a red SR I won't see him in the midnight race... :mischievous:

lol nevermind it only went down from 99 to 98

Edit: Well the same player also punted everyone off so I finished first in the midnight race...

Got my pole position finally, finished 2nd thanks to some clean racing from someone that I think is a GTP member. They had multiple chances to punt me into Narnia and didn't, cheers.

I cant wait for RBR. I know it can be punt city but I love the track. Good flow and good overtaking areas. Simple. Im gonna try and get my DR back up this week and try to avoid a reset. No idea what the meta will be but im going Viper, Vette, and GT as usual.
 
Had a quick go at Daily Race C (Gr.4 at Willow Springs) and it seems like a 2 stop race.
  1. You will probably want to qualify in the Audi TT as that seems to have the best 1 lap pace
  2. You probably don't want to use an FF car for the race as it is a grid start (You'll lose a couple of places off the line) and the tyre wear is high enough to make those front tyres suffer a little too much.
I used the Porsche Cayman, but I think the Alfa, Renault Trophy and Toyota GT86 are all decent suggestions. Personally I have always like the way the Porsche seems to float around the corners, but the Renault does have a bit more downforce and so seems faster on the long sweepers. Not sure what is best.

Pit stop seems pretty short so I think the strategy is 7m 7m 1h (or vice versa depending on where you start). You might be able to do a 1 stop though, seems pretty close to me (something like 10m 5h). Anyway have fun, just try not to end in the desert.

Edit: Just seen Womble has his video up and looks pretty spot on so have a watch

i watched this a few minutes ago and i am getting more and more interested in this race. im not big on willow but last time we had gr4 at willow i started to figure it out. im probably just gonna use the ferrari or viper as those are my 2 go-to gr4s.

That's interesting. Lamb and I messed around in Race C earlier, and we both went for a 1 stop. He pitted at lap 9 in TT Cup (because yes), I pitted lap 11 in the 86. I think if you can take good care of your tires and avoid long battles (and building sandcastles), you can go for a long Medium stint before going over to the Hard tires.
 
Thinking about it you are probably correct on the 1 stop. It is very close between the 1 stop and 2 stop, but maybe track position is better on the 1 stop? Also the Audi TT may be the best bet even with the duff start as the pace advantage might be worth it. Tbh I am not sure, should be interesting until people figure out the best strategy :)
 
Umm, to quote the mouthy Darrel Waltrip, "They're wrecking everywhere!!!"

That sums up race C so far. Started p7, was p5 by end of lap 1 due to wrecks. Passed lots of sand diggers over many laps. Pretty solid A and B room, only 15 finishers, 3 of those got lapped!

And there might be unannounced adjustments to the penalties. I ended up with 3 SR downs for nothing bits, but only dropped 4 SR. Hmmm

Edit: did another one. Only 13 finishers. 3 people got tire penalties! And only hards are mandatory. Watched an annoying Megane no stop it. They were a cork in the pipes for 5 laps then just held pace. I wouldnt want to try it though. This is not the track to experiment with sketchy tires.:nervous:

Had a 3rd race and got bit.:boggled: spun myself out twice by putting a tire just a hair wide. Went from fighting for 4th to finishing 12 seconds back of 9th.:lol:

Had a quick shot at all 3 races this morn. Race A is a lot of fun, the BMW is a joy to drive around Suzuka, it's a bit messy at the min but that should improve as people get used to the combo.
RBR with the GR 3 cars is a good solid race with 7 SR for the clean race, much better than Spa was with 4 points for a CRB.
Willow is great fun too, nearly had CRB there but messed up last corner on the last lap:banghead: Still managed to pick up 19 SR points in the race though.
Looks like a good week of racing from my perspective :cheers:

That's a good suggestion- it does seem light, and will especially seem light compared to the AXC TrueBrake piece I am going to install shortly... but the mapping is strange to me. I didn't notice it for a long time, but when I looked at the throttle bar compared to where I thought I was, I realized that it's really offset and also much narrower than the pedal itself, so the 'window' is not only small, but not where I'm inclined to think it is. It's not as much a problem in getting on the throttle as it is modulating, especially under trail braking scenarios, or trailing throttle when carrying a corner. Wish it was adjustable.
