Please define the term "supercar".

Which cars that are commonly described as "supercars" in the game should not be in this category and which car that are oft left out should be in it?

fight here --->

everybody has different ideas of what a supercars is
some say Supras and 300zx's are super cars, while others only see lambos, ferrari's etc as supercars

Its all by prefernece. I'm not sure if thats the right word, though :odd: . We all have different definitions. I say Skylines, Z32's any ferrari, and anything thats street driven that can do 300km/h. (The Top Secret GT-6000 and GT-3000 included :D )

z32's and most skylines cant do 300 (also most are limited to 180)

see this is what i am after!

why make a skyline a supercar and not say a toyota camry? they both have back seats and can therefore be called family cars..... the merc cl600 has a masive engine, is it a super car?
the lotus elise is recognised as fast and is decked out for speed, is it a supercar and therefore does that make the very similar vx220 opel one too?

Can a camry be decked to easily 600 hp? Nah, not to my knowledge. But like I said, in my eyes, anything that can do 300+km/h on the Wangan, its a 'supercar'. (I dont mean the car type, I mean that individual car.)

A supercar is a car that can fly. I also has super strength. Some other weird magical powers.

Super +man = superman
Super +car = supercar

same thing

Anyways... Basically it is a really expensive car with a very good engine. capable of high speeds(you know what i mean). it also has to be very head turning(not the kind of head turning when you got your sterio cranked and everyone is like who is the moron with the radio)

Sports car: Supra, Skyline, RX7, Corvette, Tuscan, etc...

Supercar: Viper, Zonda, XJ220, R390, GT-One, Speed 12, Ruf CTR2, etc...

A supercar is a car with a red cape and a big S on it's hood, duh.
Nah, from what I understand supercars are made to compete in the supercar class, such as the Mclaren F1 or the Ferarri Enzo.

my personal definition would be a car that is not fianancially accessible to the oridinary working man....

you'll have to win the lottery or make it big in oil to be able to afford one.....£250,000+++

I think that would classify as an exotic...

A supercar is simply a car that is super for the time that it was created in... Its any car that is simply put brilliant in a sport car sense...

I would say that it must fit at least two of the following categories
- Power > 350bhp
- Price > £60,000
- Top Speed > 160mph
- Practicality < Secondary
- Fuel economy < 20mpg

I would also say that any vehicle that shares a body with a non-supercar is itself not a supercar. Therefore M3, M5, Lancer Evo, Escort Cosworth etc are not supercars.

I think (this is my opinion) anything with AT LEAST 600hp + would be considered a supercar. (not MODIFIED 600, DESIGNED with 600)

Mclaren F1 - BUILT to be the fastest car there is
Saleen S7 - BUILT to be the fastest car there is
Mosler MT900 - BUILT to be the fastest car there is
Lamborghini Mercielago - BUILT .....

you get the point....I consider a supercar as a car that had one thing in mind.....being retarded fast.

I am a Viper freak myself, I have always loved that car and always will, even I have trouble defining it's rank.
It's easy to call it a supercar because of it's sheer speed (off the showroom floor capable of reaching ~190mph) and because of the low production numbers. but on the other hand it was built as a street car with tons of power....whereas the mclaren and such were built with track time in mind.

The lamborghini Merc is up there in my mind because it was designed to go retarded fast, and very few were built.

oh and as to whoever said that skylines are supercars? I will argue that...

cars like those are built and designed as "sports cars" and can be MODIFIED to be quite fast cars.....but it's still a skyline, it's still a sports car with work done to it.....

a supercar to me is a car researched, built, designed and solely created to be as fast as possible, without holding back...

(can you recall that the McLaren F1's engine compartment has a full 24K Gold heat shield? $ is not an issue with supercars, that's why there are so few built, and that is how they get their title as supercars)

Anyone agree with me?

I agree with you 100 percent Ducati, that's what makes a supercar a super car. Little things like a 24k heat shield, things that aren't necessary but are there. Like 627hp and a 0-60 of 2.7 sec.

To me a super car must feature the following:

Top speed: 175+ mph
O-60mph: 4.5 or fewer
Minimum g: 0.95

I agree with this definition but I contests there are two types of supercars. The first class is the one you described, I call it the big $$, from the factory supercars(Lambo, McLaren ETC...). The second class of supercars is that class I call the owner made supercars. This class encompasses all the cars that have been modified to go superfast (Modded Skylines, Corvettes, Supras, Vipers, Camaros, Mustangs, ETC...).

Anyone else with me on this?

so the vette z06 is a sports car?
how bout the elise? or zzs?

oh and home made supercars? I dont think so!

I go for:

Sports car: Anything which would be slapped silly on a track day (Impreza, Lancer Evo)
Track car: Anything which performs well on track days, but would be highly uncomfortable to drive on the roads for a time (Elise, Caterham/Westfield derivatives).
Gran Tourer: Anything stupidly powerful and very, very heavy (Viper, Vanquish, CL600).
Supercar: Anything not fitting these categories, capable of up to 200mph (Porsche 911 and the like)
Hypercar: Anything at all capable of over 200mph.

And it's the original car. A 1000hp Supra is a Sports Car/Gran Tourer, but not a supercar. Same goes for the Skyline. The Corvette is a Gran Tourer - overblessed in power AND weight.

there is minimal diference in weight between the z06 and xj220 tho...

z06 = 1409
xj220= 1375

29kg difference isnt much...

And the difference in power? And top speed?

The XJ220 is almost an abomination as a supercar/hypercar - a V6. From a rally MG Metro. Bleugh!

I'd consider putting the Corvette in the Sports Car class, actually... But it seems better placed as a GT. Kind of fits it better I think.

I would say a supercar is hand made or close to it (very detailed refined and is specially built to the owner)

Supercars are also designed to go fast and look got straight off the floor room.
They are also expensive and rare.

just my .02

but theres no denying that the xj220 is:

A: fast
B: expensive
C: exotic

so despite the engine its one MF of a car!
even tho i dont really like it

Retails for:

<250k = Not a supercar
>250k = Supercar

Of course I suppose there are certain stipulations, exceptions, etc. But for the most part... you won't find many supercars for much less, and most cars that costly are pretty.... well... super.

Excuse me while I pat myself on the back.

So... It has to be Eye catching, Cost a S*** load of money(or 2 or 29), Built almost the way the owner wants(certain packages(navigation, sterio... whatever)) And have an Engine(V10, V12...you know what i mean)

And i think a viper would be a very close acception to a sports car or supercar. I think if it would cost probably 20k more, it would be a supercar
