EA Sports WRC: General Discussion

My worry is more the way they abandoned Generations so abruptly on losing the licence. They left it completely without fixing glaring things like the throttle bug, and put up some pretty arsey communications with users on social media as they did it, leaving the distinct feeling that they were happy to wash their hands of the game, the licence and especially the userbase. Now they're back. Yey.

They're better than Codemasters I think at making the stages feel organic and alive. The gravel and snow physics are good, probably on a par with EA WRC. Their graphics engine is smoother too. But the thought of going back to their tarmac physics, the car feeling like it's made of lead as it clatters off a jagged rock in Monte Carlo, makes me a bit sick in my mouth tbh.

I highly doubt it because they fluffed TDUSC and they'll fluff this one
TDUSC is a very different prospect to WRC, very different type of game. And whilst KT's WRC games had flaws, they weren't bad at all, 10 and Generations in particular were decent games and I still have Generations installed alongside EAWRC.

Think they'll go back to annual games, or go for one title as live service and yearly updates, like EA kind of tried?

Interested to see what 'a different direction means'. Hoping they launch it holiday season '26, I'll be bored of GTA VI by then unless it's really good offroad, who knows.

I remember them saying that there isn't a throttle bug and that's how real cars especially the Modern WRC cars work... What a load of rubbish. There's no way the real life WRC cars were going up to 100% throttle when at low revs with hardly any means of regulation like they were doing in game.

It completely ruined Generations for me. I'd enjoyed all the ones before that pretty much. Nothing like DR2 at the time but the quality of the stages and licensed content was nice.

I have a question. When I create a Quick Play custom championship I can't find the option to save it as a template. I did it once by accident but can't remember how I did it. Can anyone remember where the option is?

[EDIT] Never mind, I found it after a lot of searching in the game. Once you've created or generated your stages, instead of starting the championship move up to the top left pane to highlight it, press the options button (X on Xbox) and hit "Save Championship".

But i'm really confused about the content.
Does it contain the 2024 series expansion?

Yes, if you buy that version you will have the 2024 season content as well as the 2023 content.

Other than getting a disc, its impossible to buy the game and not get the DLCs with it.

The 2023 base game is no longer buyable on its own, it always comes with the expansion content.

(EA Play is an exception but you’re not “buying” the game there anyway)

Got a new controller. A Gamesir Cyclone 2. It has TMR Sticks and Hall effect / Adjustable triggers and my god the game handles so good. I can even use Rumble now too as I had issues using that due to nerve issues. Makes me feel all the more gutted that EA WRC is over.🥺

Except it's not really over, just further dlc and game support. Other than that, the game is fine.
Don't hear anyone saying DR2.0 is over, yes it had a longer run than WRC but it's still being played with no support either

Arguably both had support stopped prematurely, although from my memories of playing DR 2.0 for 18-odd months (having started playing it a few days after its final update) I can't recall any bugs that was the fault of the game aside from RaceNet not working every now and again.

EA WRC on the other hand... EA abruptly dropped support a month after the last DLC update, with at least one bug fix scheduled only for it to be thrown in the bin. From Hard Chargers alone the C3 WRC (17-21) interior glare and Umea pace notes are both problematic, on top of that there's a couple of other longstanding issues that will never get resolved either... wet NZ (Oceania) being borderline undriveable in certain conditions a case in point.

It's certainly not "over" in the sense that they pulled the shutters down (like closing online services for either game, withdrawn from online stores e.t.c) but much like Generations it leaves a sour taste in the mouth that there's clear bugs in the game that will never get an official fix.

I'm just getting a new gaming PC, with I expect a VR headset to follow. What's the state of play now, I know it's not great, with DiRT Rally 2 and EA WRC for VR Gaming? Which should I go for?

I bought this game 2 days ago on PS5 and after playing all the WRC games on PS4, including Dirt Rally and 2.0 this is the best one for me. It's actually much easier than Dirt Rally and more enjoyable since I'm not crashing as often.

Also the location list and car list is awesome. The last time I enjoyed a rally game this much was on Dirt 1 and 2 on PS3.

Aside from the performance issues (which are still/will always be a problem) it’s THE perfect rally game. It’s an amazing sandbox, massive car/event list, the stages are obscenely good (if you’d told me back in the days when I was playing on my PS2 that future rally games would recreate entire 30km real life stages my head would have exploded), it’s absolutely awesome. Considering it’s generally on sale for a few magic beans online, I hope lots more people discover this in the years to come.

I recently bought the game for $15 on Steam and still haven’t gotten around to trying it with my psvr2. All these games for sale this month and I don’t know which to play first
