Well, part of that's right! The scientific research on Ecstasy is equivocal to say the least, and there is a weight of evidence on either side of the "ecstasy will kill you" debate.
However, you have to ask yourself how willing you are to open yourself up to ingesting a substance that you have no idea about. With beer, and cigarettes, and to a certain extent, marijuana, you have a realistic idea of what it is you're taking, and the effects it's going to have on you. When you buy an ecstasy tab, what actually is it that you're taking? Same with speed.
A lot of people, for entirely valid reasons, elect not to consume alcohol because they don't like the feeling of loss of control when they get drunk. The difference between alcohol and other drugs is that with other drugs you relinquish control not when you take too much, but when you take any at all. Do you have faith in the chemist who made the drug? Or the dealer's car boot/apartment/coat pocket that was used to transport the drug to yourself? Think about what you're actually letting yourself in for. You could be taking anything from cocaine/heroin down to icing sugar, and you have NO IDEA what it is, or what it could do for/to you.
I would advise steering clear.
