Disconnected before even matching me in a lobby! Brilliant
Hello everyone, new member here :)
Wish I didn't have to start with replying to this message but the same thing is happening to me, too.
I've tried to get into Free Practice or Race entry before the Race Start times for the Manufacturer Series Races @ Red Bull Ring today - 5 times - but everytime I press the Drive button the screen freezes, sometimes the timer at the top of the screen stops, too.
Everytime I've hit the PS button on the controller, went back to Home Screen and I've closed GT Sport and restarted it. I've switched off everything and restarted the PS a few times nad retried again.
Nothing happens - each time I get the "frozen screen" - it's not letting me enter the Race / Free Practice :(
This has happened to me 2 days ago, too - eaxactly the same thing!
My internet connection is good - I can open the Browser and TV (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) in the PS and my computer also.
I don't have any idea why this is happening. One time (2 days ago I had a screen message saying "Disconnected form the Network" but no Error Code or any other information).
Any ideas? Any help?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry for my mispellings.
And I apologize if this is not the correct place to discuss this issue, but I got really frustrated - sorry.

I only went and raced twice!

First race:
Qualy was an utter disaster. I'm done with slipstream qualifying, I always get stuck behind someone about three days slower than me. He was so slow I backed off for a clear run and as I was watching the mini map for a gap I drove straight into the gravel :D. Got the DQ warning, got round though and starting the lap on dirty tyres did a 30.1 to start 17th.

The race went ok, went a tiny bit deep on L1 at T2 and tapped a Renault, so I backed off and relinquished the position. A lap later a Lambo did something very similar to me, but didn't back off on the exit (he was very quick to apologise after the race - fat lot of good that is! But it's appreciated). A couple of laps later I lined up the Lambo into T2, made a great clean pass but didn't quite have the full overlap as he tried to cut back on me, we spent almost half the lap side by side, I didn't quite have the position to force the issue through the two left handers and yielded so that we could go again. I'll get you when you haven't got a tow mate ;).

We caught a Porsche about to serve a penalty, Lambo passed, I passed and stayed to the right to protect the inside, the Porsche lined up straight behind me and simply drove into me, twice (he wasn't quick to apologise after the race, 🤬. On replay though the first hit was down to him, the second, he'd been tapped from behind). This put me into the clutches of a couple of cars following and while I couldn't get back to a good pace to defend against an NSX I had a great last two laps with an Alfa, swapping places a couple of times and just holding him off to come home 10th for 172 points.

I knew the race could go badly if I went again, so I tossed a coin and entered.

Second race:
I'd heard from @VulcanSpirit that Supras were good to follow around... so was quite pleased when I saw myself lined up behind a Supra. But I wasn't too concerned about a tow after the first race and decided if he was going to play around at the end of his lap I was carrying on regardless and would be the front of a train. He pitted, I went for it - 1:29.667 for my first flying lap in clean air, my second flying lap was within 0.01s until the final two corners when a couple of cars got out my way in a 'Moses' fashion, but it's distracting and cost me a couple of tenths, my final flying lap was truly flying, almost a quarter of a second up after sector two before a jeroboam sized bottle job in the penultimate corner invalidated the lap and I crashed on S/F with the dusty tyres. My only track limit transgression of the two races, I started 13th.

The first lap or so went ok, passed a spinner, staying in touch, then into T2 something happened and I have no idea what yet but it seems like as we were all filing through either someone lagged or someone stopped, pinball, the car ahead hits the car ahead, I hit the car ahead, car behind hits me, ghosting, slow exit, and I was one of the lucky ones who won a 1s penalty as well as lose three places on the exit.

Settling back down in I think 16th, gained a couple of places as people vacated the track then spent some laps trying to bridge a 2.5s gap to the group ahead whilst at the same time defending from an extremely eager Porsche who had a WRX up his tailpipe. In the end I broke away from the Porsche but the WRX would happily launch from half a second back for a bit of door to door contact at the apex. I wasn't about to let that through. The group ahead fought a little, there was a penalty somewhere and the gap was bridged.

Positions were mainly gained from people serving penalties, not much overtaking involved. But chasing down an Alfa and a Merc towards the end, the Alfa went for the pass into T3, I held back looking to nail my exit and benefit from any mishaps. I did my bit perfectly, however the Alfa was in the middle of the track which compromised how early I could get on the throttle and although I had got ahead of the Merc on the run to the left hander, I wasn't completely clear and after giving him plenty of room to make his way around he failed to get anywhere near the apex and the contact sent me wide. From there I followed him and the Alfa to the finish for... 10th place, and 174 points this time.

A fun evening if slightly disappointing, I really need to sort out my qualifying because it's costing me podiums, the race pace is there. Doing the two races back to back tonight though might help with Saturday's double header which will be my first Nations entry of the season

*Edited for accuracy after seeing replay!

This is ridiculous. Second slot in a row!! No racing for me this round then as not sitting around until 11pm for the same to probably happen again.

#FIAGTC 2020 Is A Go!! For real this time And well.. We wish we had better Qualifying, Still Suzuka was a Blast and we had a great finish to the first Round and hope we have many more b^_^)b

:DLong time lurker here, just started online sport mode a month ago, after mostly playing offline on/off for the past 2 years.

Had 2 tries this night, the first beeing troubled by some South European temper to put it mildly. Got punted aside in lap 13 from 10th place, he then went on to do this to the next person in line on the next lap, who in turn comepletely lost it and took it all out on me (Very frustrating as he was quicker than me and throughout the first part off the race we had a good clean battle where he was quite patient as I drove defensively for quite some laps) shoving me off comepletely 3 times the next corners. The last one gave him a 3s penalty which gave me the oppertunity to shake him. My car was damaged and tires where gone from all the gravel grinding though, eventually limping it across the finish line in 16th.

Second race was alot better, qualifieth in 9th (brake checked on the final straight in my good run, but oh well). Up into 6th after some mistakes from others and a clean lined up pass. In lap 10 I got a track limit penalty which cost me a position as I lost my flow a little bit, eventually brought 7th home.

All in all the second race left me with a good feeling, but a little bummed about the first race beeing ruined, bringing home 10th/11th probably even netted me more points as it was a faster lobby. I did call the guy out afterwards on PSN and he did give an apology, but also downplayed it with “**** happens sometimes, your next race will be better”

Anyway, let’s stay positive, what could possibly go wrong with the Chicane of Death in the next round haha

Almost dragged myself to a 10th place after qualifying 16th and getting punted off at Gösser on lap 1, only to get punted around at Rindt by a Hyundai on the last lap...and to cap things off, the game slapped me with a 4s penalty.

Thanks for convincing me to park this Tesco Value iRacing.

Just had a nightmare of a race... lost 20 something SR and 2k DR
Qualified 7th, not too many issues
1st lap I made a mistake into the hairpin, ran wide, ended up 15th and then bottled it on T3 L3, ended up 20th.
Made my way up to 13th and was closely following an Alfa into T1, he gets on the throttle a bit too early and he starts oversteering. I go up the inside, no contact given from my end. He corrects it and slams into me even though I was in the middle of the track. And I gain the 1 second penalty. I was near the wall on the right and when I was rejoining, a Mercedes that can clearly see me from a mile off keeps to the right and slams into the back of me, rewarding me with an extra 3 secs. CBA with this penalty system... should punish all forms of contact on both ends imo, only way to fix it

Just finished my 4th and final race of the evening in the Z4. It's my best result of the evening. Qualified 2nd and i finished 3rd.

I just knew that if i avoided being punted during the first few corners, i could finish in a decent position.

One thing I've learned during these races is that the Z4 needs a little bit of more power under the hood. It's a bit slow on the straights.

Do as much of this list as you can:
So GT Sport - like GT6 and GT5, and GT5P - is a bit sensitive to network environments, and a connection that's fine one day (or hour) might be ropey the next. There's an "easy" way to optimise your own network environment and make it as stable and friendly as possible.

Step 1 - Wire it in
A wired connection is innately more stable (and marginally broader and more responsive) than a wireless one.

Step 2 - Static IP address
This is a little more complicated and requires knowing a very small amount about your home network.

In essence, your router (the thing that plugs into the outside world) has a small amount of addresses (called IP addresses) that it assigns to the devices connecting to it. It receives information from the outside world, works out which device it has to go to and sends it there. Your device also sends information to it, which the router translates to show which device it has come from, and sends it out. This is a function known as "Network Address Translation" (NAT). Now you know what "NAT Type" means - the type of NAT currently used. NAT Type 2 is best and NAT Type 3 is the worst, for really boring reasons. If you have NAT Type 3 you will absolutely need to do the rest of this list.

If left to its own devices (it probably would), the router will assign IP addresses automatically. This means that every time a device is turned on, the router gives it a number. This is usually sequential, but not always, and known as DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). If you have lots of devices connected at once, this can sometimes cause issues as a device "wants" the IP address another one is using. It's usually only a hiccup, but it can be bad if you're doing 140mph when it hiccups because your kid is checking their phone...

For stability purposes it's better to assign each and every device in your house its own, permanent IP address. First you'll need to find out what IP addresses your router uses. Usually, this will be 192.168.0.[any number from 2-255], with the router itself as 192.168.0.1, but not always*. Best way to check is to look at the router's own IP address, printed on the back of it. That's the address you'd type into your browser to log into your router's control panel. Once you've found out, pick a number from 2-255...

Then, on the PS4 go to:
Settings (second button from the right hand side)
-> Network
-> Set Up Internet Connection
If you've wired it in as above, pick "use a LAN cable". If not, bad you, pick WiFi.

On the next screen pick "Custom", and then "Manual". Now you need to enter the IP address you've chosen, along with some other... kookier information.

For your IP address enter the number you picked. "Subnet Mask" is even more almost always going to be 255.255.255.0. "Default Gateway" is your router's address. The DNS (Domain Name Server; the servers that change the IP addresses of locations into names, like gtplanet.net) settings are up to you; your ISP has its DNS and these will likely be in the router's control panel under DNS. It's easier to use the free DNS at OpenDNS. These are "208.67.220.220" and "208.67.222.222".

As a random example, the screen should now look something like this:
IP Address - 192.168.0.4
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway - 192.168.0.1
Primary DNS - 208.67.220.220
Secondary DNS - 208.67.222.222

On the next screens hit Automatic, Do Not Use and Test. It'll now do a network test. If you have set ANYTHING wrong, it will fail at the "Obtain IP address" or "Internet Connection" stage. Double check your numbers...

Lastly, it's best to do exactly the same thing in your router, and it's required for the next step. Routers vary wildly in where to find this function, but you should have your own instruction manual for it... It's likely to be under an advanced settings menu, labelled as IP addresses or network configuration or something similar. All you need to do is find your console (this can be tricky, as it may be listed by its MAC address; you can find your console's MAC address in its Settings menu somewhere. I forget where. It's a set of six pairs of hexadecimal numbers, from 00-FF, separated by colons), click on that and enter the IP address you picked for it.

If you think this is geeky, I've done it for every device in my house, numbering 25 or so now. And the consoles, laptops, mobiles and computers are separated into dedicated IP blocs, so when we get a new one it's easy to remember what the next number should be. NEEEEEEEEEEEEEERD!

Step 3 - DMZ
So, basically, devices need to send information out through "ports". This is stupendously difficult to explain - you and I might think that a "port" is what you plug a cable into, but it's not. Well, not in this sense - it's a networking thing. Routers have built-in protective "firewalls" that block certain ports under certain conditions. This is great - it helps prevent your computer from being compromised, or sending out information when it has been - but when a console has its ports blocked, you can't game.

Routers also have a place outside of their normal firewall called the DMZ - which, yes, is the Demilitarised Zone. This is a connection where the firewall doesn't exist, so there's no defences. As there's no defences, there's no ports blocked. This is great news for gaming.

Once you've assigned the static IP address to the PS4 both in the console and in the router, you'll want to find your router's DMZ function. Again, this varies wildly, but is often just labelled as "DMZ". It may be under a Firewall menu or similar. Again, consult your manual. You'll need to then assign the console's IP address (or some routers allow you to assign the device, if you can remember its MAC Address, or you gave it a name) to the DMZ.

You can only assign a single device or IP to a DMZ, and your console is the safest thing to put there.

Once you've done all this, the chances are that you won't see any immediate differences in the network test. You might have a slightly lower ping, or a slightly higher bandwidth, but probably won't. But what you will have is the absolute ideal conditions for your console for online gaming, and the only disconnects that will affect you should be when everyone gets booted from a lobby. Or if your internet connection itself falls over, or there's a power cut.

It won't cure low bandwidth, high ping connections, but it will make it more stable and it's everything you can do to make it work. Unless your ISP throttles gaming traffic, which some do, the bastards...

*Mine is NOT the same as this. If yours isn't as well, and you don't know what you're doing, shout at me in PMs and I'll help

Definitely well worth the effort to learn MT its a lot faster and you have the additional benefit of being able to manage fuel a lot better.
I know. I have spent hours and hours and I can't learn. Old man's muscle memory....
Too much time with the Logitech Momo in Grand Prix Legends, when I'm on a wheel it just flows....

Had another shot around RBR in the Lexus, qualifying went better, got close to my practice time, started 7th. Bit brutal, managed to survive, just, took a top ten finish, happy with that so switched to my alt account. For some strange reason, I've signed with Ferrari on that, now that is gonna take some practice. 2 secounds a lap slower than the Lexus. Only dropped two places overall during the race. Most of the MR cars in that race were grouped together at the finish. So going to aim to be top MR finisher on that account, if I get a good grip if the prancing horse

Hi,
I'll try to do the things that you've advised and repost if my problem gets solved.
Thanks for your help :)

I did all of that list plus more, and it eventually worked (for now) by changing to Google's DNS
Primary: 8.8.8.8
Secondary: 8.8.4.4

You may need to try a few different DNS addresses.

I am not sure if this will continue to work, seems very strange that a lot of people are having these disconnects recently.

1st race (2nd time slot): went against my better judgement and decided to try to follow a car in qualifying. Got held up slightly on all of my laps but miraculously qualified 9th less than 0.4s off of pole. I immediately ruin any chance of doing well (stop me if you've heard this before...) by nearly spinning on cold tires in Turn 1. Fell back to 12th and for the rest of the race was stuck behind cars I was faster than, but couldn't pass. I picked them off slowly until I was looking at a semi-respectable 7th place, but got taken out by a BMW who spun on the outside curb at Turn 2 which dumped me down to 14th. Once the last lap started and I saw I wouldn't do any better than 14th I saw no point in even finishing and quit, not caring about DR damage from doing so. I had the pace to easily be Top 5 probably. Hopefully I'm not here all night...

P9 to p4 for me happy days. Glad I chose Ferrari, it’s such a great car when things come together. Tough laps at the end as the rears went off and a supra was sat just under a second behind.
Mostly a clean race up front, some crazies towards the rear. After watching the replay I still get amazed by how many people refuse to ease off the power when they’re tangled up with someone only to end up spinning themselves aswell. I think half of all incidents wouldn’t kick off if people just put their ego down for a split second. Overall a clean lobby though

Good raceday!

Initially I had serious doubt. Was not happy with my BMW as it was pretty slow against my friend list and RBR is not famous for giving us fair racing action in GT.

Was able to catch three slots today, each one was better than expected.

Race 1 I qualified at 7th and to my suprise the BMW was a blast to drive. While it still is wasting time at the exit cause of his traction problems, overall is the handling beautiful. Especially later in the race I realized that the tyre wear is well balanced and fuel was absolutley no problem. T1-L1 was another suprise as the field passed it without any big problems. Was able to gain position after position and had a intense race against a Italian R8 behind me. The GT-R on 3rd was becoming slower towards the end of the race and rapidly I was able to close the gap. Guess the Nissan eats his rear tires? Two laps before the end of the race I got him and finished 3rd - First Podium in the FIA Races for me.

Race 2 gave me #20 on the number board. Qualified 16th, drove the big fat M6 to 12th. I'm satisfied with that!

Race 3 was maybe the toughest one, started 4th and it was a intense fight between 3rd and 7th position all over the race. Leaded the pack at 3rd long time, but somewhere I feeled the pressure and missed my braking point at T1, so I was back to 7th. Took some time to get back to 4th, last lap the Lexus at 4th had fuel problems so i could intercept my German friend in the green RCF. Lucky me, based on the gap to 3rd I could have maybe even finished 3rd too in this race if I didn't make that one mistake. But that's racing, 4th position feels absolutley like a little victory for me.

Now I'm looking forward for Barcelona!

Started 18 but was doing consistent laps and staying out of trouble. Worked my way up to 10th when some guy bumped me off track. Ended up 14, and worked up to 12th only to be punted again by the same guy!! For no reason.

Finished 13th, good enough for my B lvl driving skills haha
