Ran a practice race against the AI yesterday in the Corvette. I will definitely need to top up fuel at some point, I was down to 50% after only 10 laps and that was with serious amounts of short-shifting, so I'm about four laps short and there's just no way I can save that amount of fuel and still run competitive laptimes. Better to not save and refuel instead.
I didn't try the wear on softs but I did manage to get 9 laps out of the mediums before they got unnecessarily tricky to drive. I could get another lap or two out of them I'm sure but the last ones would be one tiny mistake away from disaster.
So a one-stopper seems like a doable strategy for me depending on how the race and quali shakes out, but I'm probably going to run a two stopper. Soft/Med/Hard in that order, refuelling at either stop depending on race situation. Aiming to keep up and gain time when everyone else pits an extra time.
But we'll see how my pace compares to everyone else, might have to run softs as long as possible.
Disappointed I was in a pretty low ranked lobby, but very happy with my performance!!!
I had a very consistent drive, and realised on the last lap that the guy I had been battling the whole race hadn’t used the required tyres. Sees me climb back up to a B ranking though!
As far as strategy goes, I went 2x7 stints on softs, changed to mediums and refuelled, and came in to do 2 laps on the hards at the end with the plan to try and put some pressure on the guy I was battling with on cold hard tyres (which well I was somewhat disappointed I didn’t need to!!!)
Respectful racing from Warm up to the finish line. Started P4. Finished P3.
Ran a few qualy laps on RH. to see how quick everyone are in a B/S room, with one S/S player.
I messed up on my RS run, that would have gotten me P1. Started .3. That's how close we were.
Chose 1RH/1RM/8RS/8RS/5RS. RSR behind me was riding my bumper into T1-T3. I signalled for it to pass. It passed at Seaside hairpin.
Made my stops. Topped up the second stop, after switching to RM. Pit Lap 3 for my RS assault. 19/20 at this point.
Made up spots on pace and other cars pitting. Second set of RS, got FL with a 1:38.000. Got pipped with a 1:37.942 by the leader.
Moved up to 6th. One of the early lead Vantage came out pits. I signalled for it to pass. It passed but I guess latency caused us to slightly touch. I got 1 second. Vantage signalled for me to take the spot back. I flashed to say keep going.
Served my penalty next lap. Pitted for my final set of RS with a couple other cars, that had to choose RH.
Left them and caught the lead group and that Vantage again. Passed for 4th. Stayed with a C7 for the last few laps, as one more player pitted for tyres. Moved up to 3rd. Got FL with a 1:37.926.
Finished one second behind the C7. Good race by all.
Well, I will announce that I am breaking my normal rule of 1 shot. I drove so bad I was embarrased about it. @pantherjag lapped me before his final stop. I played how many times can u crash in the chicane, final number was a good 6. 2 of those were full on total stop, 1 having to reverse out. Also threw a wreck that involved needing reverse at the first hairpin somehow as well. Was a solid 10 seconds back of next to last, and I think that is because they somehow ran out of fuel.
Hopey second try goes better, and good luck to you all.
I don't know if it's due to the later start times, but this race and Wednesday's Nations had a LOT higher turnout than the official season. Normally Nations I always get in top split, but I was midfield in second split. Manu usually bottom top split or high second split, today I got absolutely murdered and qualified dead last in second split (that's what you get with only 8 laps practice ). Made amends in the race with a 8M/7S/1H/7S strategy (no refuel) and managed to climb back up to 10th so pretty happy Lots of nice battles, everyone a lot more respectful and not as desperate as the official season which is good to see 👍
Car wise went with Mazda. I knew the RXV can be twitchy under braking but it wasn't so bad during the race with fuel load on. Tyre wear is excellent, fuel saving is also good. After driving the Subaru last season it's good to have straightline speed and a car that can rotate mid corner Only weakness is the rotary's low torque means acceleration out of corners is weak (and unfortunately DTS has lots of those). But once you get going it just glides Oh and it has one of the most useless rear turn indicators ever.
Monza and Tokyo is going to be a struggle with the Slowtenza Gr.4, but hey that's part of the fun
Good luck, don't stress about points and just have fun everyone 👍

I'm one up on that. P12 finish but lapped by 1st and 2nd place despite getting fastest lap.
I too will be breaking my "one shot" rule and running it again.
Wanted your thoughts on whether you would consider this a dangerous move? Was a bit more of a reflex thing so only really thought about it after the race
And well here’s my only other real overtake moment from the race

So I ran my second race. Much stronger lobby. Door 20 instead of 14. Qualify p17 amd instead of wrecking the chicane a lot I somehow lose it on the start and do donuts. Finally get settled and going 5 seconds behind the field. From there I only clip the chicane once, enough for damage but I kept spot. Drove clean otherwise to claw my way back to p15. I will take it after the first race disaster.
And there goes my first ever mulligan on this stuff.
Good luck all, be careful and patient out there. People seem to really be mostly driving pretty clean and fair from what I saw.👍
They are now that they've lengthened the races for Manu, could easily go back to the 20s+ stops. It made certain sense when they brought the shorter stops in to create some diverse strategies but with longer races, they need to go the other way

Even at 1x wear these pit times are essentially free. What's the consequence to making another stop unless you're neck and neck with someone?
If you're 5 secs ahead of someone you can pit any time you like as long as there's more than two or three laps left because you'll eat up the distance and pass on your fresh tyres...
Multipliers should maybe go down 1 or 2 steps on tyres for this season, but pit times need to go up by 20 seconds at least for them to matter.
My second result was not much better than my first, but it was a much more enjoyable race. 8th place start and finish, punted to DFL at first hairpin lap 1 but otherwise mostly incident free.

This reminds me of the last time we raced here. I made a mess of my first go and was annoyed because I should have won. I screwed up my qualifying next time, then this happened:

The longest pit time currently is Laguna Seca at around 30s, and everyone hates racing there because of it. It’s no fun having to nurse tires because the pit stop is way too long.
Bit late with this but anyways. Managed a decent lap in quali for Nations (though it didn't feel great) and it put me way up the order in P3. Unfortunately I had no race pace and dropped like a stone during the race and in the end was lucky to finish in the top 10. Had an interesting penalty partway through that @Ashthebash mentioned (clipped below). Don't think either of us deserved one but hey ho. Not a great result considering my starting position but probably should've been much worse considering my pace.
My first race was pretty much confirmation that the 1-stop and 2-stop were completely useless because the Hards are complete garbage. I started from 15th on Hards and proceeded to crash out at the first chicane. I spent my race struggling with the two-stop and languishing at the back. It's honestly a miracle that I finished 13th due to people giving up and quitting, the CoD racking up casualties (myself included) and one guy forgetting the mandatory tyres.
Race strategy: 1H-8M-7S-7S plus fuel on last stop
The second qualifying was just as disastrous. This time round, I elected to dump the Hards on the opening lap. I was able to get alongside the silver Merc into the first chicane, only for him to turn into me and send me back to 15th. I lose two more places to a Racing Point Audi at Larini hairpin and a RCZ at Pirelli Slope hairpin. An Indonesian Viper (ExpatChamp) and I dive into the pits to dump the Hards, though I beat him out of the pits, despite Expat being first into the pits. The silver Merc that turned into me gets served a big dose of karma when he eats gravel out of the esses and drops from 10th to last (19th) and the CoD claims the RP Audi. On lap 3, I retake my starting position from a red Ferrari at Pirelli Slope Hairpin and settle in for the rest of my 8-lap stint on Mediums.
On lap 7, I get caught behind a yellow Ferrari exiting the pits and I spent the next 2 laps trying to find a way past, only to have Expat dive past me at the final hairpin on lap 8. Forgetting that the Viper has a longer nose than the Alfa, I run into my teammate's rear and take a SR down. Despite the fighting, I'm up to 13th as more people pit.
On lap 9, this incident happened ahead of me:
While I am on good terms with the guy in the Mazda (rio_666s), that was probably his fault. Cutting the black/green Porsche off and taking the space the Porsche was going to brake into was not a very good idea. I take 12th from the incident, but I am bogged down with traffic towards the end of my stint. I take my scheduled stop on lap 9 for Softs to try and find clear air...only to find more traffic when I exit in 16th. Great.
rio_666s bungles Larini hairpin, gifting me 15th. He tries a dive at Pirelli Slope hairpin, but I take a wide line and squeeze him to compromise his exit and keep 15th. By lap 12, I am up to 13th, but a pack is forming from 9th to 15th. Desperate to get through the pack, I make a divebomb into Pirelli Slope hairpin, but I overcooked it and took myself and a yellow Ferrari down to 14th and 15th, with the Ferrari taking a 1 second penalty.
2 Fast 2 Furious
Granted, one could argue that the Ferrari could have been more aware of of his surroundings and delayed his turn in to let me spear off the track, but I think I should be taking most of the blame for my mistake. I apologised after the race, which he accepted.
After overtaking the Ferrari at the final hairpin, I pushed up to 12th, overtaking a Lancer at Pirelli Slope hairpin and sailing past another victim of CoD. I catch up to rio_666s on lap 14 and we start fighting for 11th, only for the red/black Ferrari ahead in 10th to bin it on his own at Larini and rio to eat an unfortunate 4 second penalty for running into the Ferrari right before he ghosted.
rio continued to fight, but I get the cutback at the final hairpin and he retreats into the pits as I jump someone else in the pits for 9th.
I take my final stop for fuel and Softs on lap 16, dropping from 9th to 11th. On my out-lap, Expat comes down with a nasty case of CoD, putting me up into 10th. I then set my sights on the NSX in 9th, catching up to him on lap 18 and completely mugging him through the tunnel with the better exit out of CoD.
With the NSX falling away and 8th well out of reach, I settled in for an (mostly) uneventful drive to 9th, with a close shave with the gravel after the esses on the final lap concluding a very eventful race.
I was planning to skip the season and take a break, but long races are too tempting to pass up, so using BMW this season since I don't think I've use it for the past year anywhere.
Mid A lobby and I don't think I have much pace here, qualified 10th without slipstream.
I raced with the 6M/7S/1H/9S strategy, using hard midrace as I reckon I will pit myself in traffic.
Lost 2 places at start and then it's in no man's land until first pit. The outlap was stucking in traffic and lost a second. No action until I binned in the chicane of death and lost another 8 seconds
Again in no man's land until last 3 laps in 8th with the two in frone of me battling. A intresting battle in the last lap and I got hit while turn-in. I think it's a racing incident but he pull over and let me pass anyway. Very kind of him that I'm not sure if necessary but I'll take 7th. One and done for the day
Hi. Sorry for the random request but can someone take a screen shot of the U.K. Manu entry slot screen? I haven’t decided on a manufacturer yet and I want to see the new slot times in this format!
I've been out of town on a job in BFE for the last month and a half. I had crappy, unstable internet in my cabin but I went ahead and tried a few races my first week out there. BAD idea. (I did make a lot of headway into Ghost of Tsushima, though.) So, now I'm back in civilization with a real internet connection and am very rusty. How rusty? Well, I tried a practice race last night:
I'm going to try a real race today. I might post the blooper reel for you guys later.
Another interesting round one! This time in Manufacturers
Found myself in with @Lost Sheltie in a lobby basically a notch above what I'm usually in. Qualified well though, 1:36.5 which put me 10th. So bolted on the mediums and prepared for an eventful first few laps.
Went pretty much as expected, people pitting and me intending to pit after L8, then at the start of L8 this happens
Apparently he was "defending the inside and I rammed him". This is up there with the worst dive bombs for me. Absolute joke that someone in a fairly high split can do this and think it's fine.
After that I stuck on the hards, then ran two stints on softs to come home 14th
