Did first slot with @watto79 ,@Hasnain282 and @T_revisio .

Qualified in 12th with a1:51.2, and early days the race wasn't too bad, in fact it wasn't too bad overall but for one instance. Hasnain was pressuring me early on, definitely seemed to have the legs on me as we were going around in the midfield. Then on (not sure what lap), there's a major incident ahead in the chicane. We both gain places up the hill, I'm carrying enough speed to gain another but he defends the inside hard, I take a wider line in and as I'm putting the power down to try and get a better exit, he runs too deep, straight ahead of me and puts the brakes on. I hit him up the back, he goes off and I get a 2s penalty. I let Hasnain go on the run down to the esses and lose another few places down S/F as a result of the penalty. Think I went down to 14th, from there, gained on the group ahead, took advantage of one going off and a last lap penalty to come home where I started in 12th, a couple of tenths off a top half finish.

First race that I'm really looking forward to next week, love the Gr.2 cars and will hopefully get a better result

I'm pretty sure @Adam Barber is a lucky charm for me, I won the last race I was in with him too

Big hand to the guy who made the Jimmy Broadbent livery for the MX-5, there's a red version too if you prefer.

Qualified 7th after being blocked in qualifying by someone who went off at the chicane then sat in the middle of the road going up the hill. I got past him, but I think I was rattled and messed up the big right hander after that.

First two laps were a bit sketchy with the field being really close. The Russian who qualified 6th had a habit of braking far too late for corners, he took himself out at turn 1 doing this so that was fine. The pole-sitter clipped the grass at the top of the hill before the esses and spun on lap 2. Next lap some of the people in front of me served some penalties after the chicane (great place for a penalty zone in an N200 car btw) and I went up to 3rd.

I spent the next few laps following an Icelandic in 1st and a German in 2nd. I'm not sure if the former bottled it or if his tyres went but we eventually both went past and he dropped off. Then I went past the German and he dropped off too, I think he messed up the chicane on one of the laps. I was happy sitting in behind the pair of them since I wasn't falling away and I was trying to save my tyres for the end, but I guess it didn't matter.

I'll say two other things about this race - I think this is the first I've driven this car on soft rather than hard tyres, and it helped a lot. It's been a weird combination of slow and oversteery in the past, but I actually felt like I could push in it today.

The other thing is I've been watching @Tidgney's driving school again and the Consistency lesson is probably the most important one there. Here are my lap times:

Untitled2.png

The tyres were going a bit towards the end and I had a 6 second gap to 2nd so I wasn't pushing hard, but laps 9 and 10 were after I had taken the lead and wasn't being held up. Just driving cleanly and repetitively did it for me, and it came more easily than I was expecting. The main advice I took from that video was to just drive rather than always try to drive as fast as you can. In a race like this where you had to manage your tyres it was especially helpful.

Here's the incident in question

I fell foul of a vodka addict at the final corner of L12, and to cap it off, not only did he get off scot-free and ruin my SR, I then got divebombed in the Esses on the next lap, which sent me into the barriers which of course spun me down to 14th and 60pts

My second attempt tonight went much better. I managed to qualify 3rd, and that's where I ended up after a no-stop strategy. I still had a couple of close calls, namely lap 1 when I nearly got divebombed at the T4 hairpin, and a brief off on lap 3 when I misjudged my braking for the chicane and had to back off and let the Hungarian trailing me go past, only for them to screw up their own braking for T1. That'll do.

First EMEA Nations race of the season in the Mazda Roadster Touring Car at Kyoto Driving Park - Yamagiwa II . . . and it was a very good clean race for a D/A lobby (mostly). Started 18th after poor qualifying (2.00.540) but managed to keep in on track (most of the time) and came home 17th (3 points for Ireland). Dropped 1061 DR points and don't care, raised 16 SR points and kinda mad because I really wanted to stay in the B/C lobby for these races (feel I might be more competitive there). Looking forward to the Toyota 86 GR.4 at Monza this weekend for the Manufacturer's Race and the Lexus RCF GR.2 at RBR next week.

A chaotic race but pretty fun. Wish it was longer though, lower wear and up to 15-20 laps would’ve been really nice.
That was a good race, you should've been up with the battle for 4th with your pace. We had some fun, lots of contact a bit of bump drafting but no problems with each other. Here's a few moments:

@GOTMAXPOWER yes I watched the replay of your 3 car battle, some good racing. I thought I got punted by the Russian early on but it was just the ping pong effect. Pretty clean lobby for the most part.
2 wide through the esses is brave GG .
I've never tried bump drafting anybody through there either, first time for everything .

Yeah, it was a good lobby top split doesn't have fun races like that.

I hadn't noticed that you pitted. I was worried I had bumped you or something making that pass. You still finished ahead of me:tup::lol:

@ShiftingGears that same guy won my lobby as well. He got pole for that. Seems you pretty much got @Raptor013 and my lobby for round 3. Good driving.

I think you meant @05XR8 ... I think I was actually in the split underneath you because my DR was reset. We should be in the same split come mutually assured destruction at Monza though

Well that wasn't my race alright. I was feeling really good, I qualified P3 without the slipstream, and this is by far the highest I've qualified in a long time. I was ambitious and aimed for a Top 5 Finish. Got tapped at the Chicane of Awkwardness and was spun into the wall, dropping me down into 20th. Then I got held up for several laps because I find passing and being able to pull away difficult here. Coming onto Lap 11 in 13th, the person ahead of me gets onto the grass at the Chicane of Awkwardness and spins.... into me, spinning me around again back into 19th. I decide to pit and see if I could get fastest lap honors, and I couldn't, and finished 18th. Pre-fastest lap attempt, my fastest lap in traffic was still good enough to be the 6th highest, so I think I have pace here.

Luckily, everyone in the lobby was civil as apologies flew around, and I knew the person who tapped me at the beginning of the race didn't mean it since I raced against them last night in a practice lobby. So, gonna go again and see if my qualifying was a fluke or not.

EDIT: Reviewed the replay, and interestingly enough, the Top 4 all pitted around laps 6-8. 5th place may have been higher up if they hadn't spun and gotten held up in traffic, but also, they were a God at tire saving. So now I'm not sure if no-stopping is the best option.

Yeah, you were right, it was @05XR8 . My bad. Might not see you again for a while. Tooling around driving poorly last week and a half has me at around 25k now.

Should we even qualify at Monza?

Attention Racers, the car that's been slipstreaming you the entire length of the pit straight *IS* going to beat you to the apex if they lunge for it! Do not turn in on them and get yourself a silly penalty! :dunce:

First slot went disastrously, qualified 15th or something with door #8, let the pack accumulate penalties and spins and move up to 10th.
Lap 4-ish I get punted off at T2 after the aforementioned disagreement over who had the right to the apex of T1 that left the other car with a 1 second penalty, so back to 16th. Punter eventually ragequits. I recover to finish 11th for 86 points.

Second slot was significantly better, door #20, but I catch the slipstream of the eventual polesitter on their fastest lap and snatch P2 from @roamingbard13 by 3 thousandths of a second. Of course I manage to spin myself in the same first chicane I wrecked the previous race, but recover to 6th this time for 137, which is probably as good as I'm going to do on points considering I was door #20. Frustrating that I was in the second pack and not the first at the end because of my own mistake, but the racing was mostly good.

Just got disconnected with a 5+ second lead going into the esses on the final lap.

Wow. I can’t ****ing believe it.

edit:

down over 1000 DR bucks. Probably around 170 points for the win too. 0 points now for the night. Goddamnit.
Same race. Started last in 20th. Got up to 11 and the 2 cars in front just botched the chicane. And there goes the disconnect.

Despite losing over 1000 DR from the first race I got put into a higher-split race (or the levels for splits increased since a few people from the previous race were in here as well). I got around the same qualifying time, but this time it was only good enough for 9th.

I had some good battling for a couple of laps, and at the last second on Lap 8, I decided to pit for tires, which turned out to be the right option because the person I was behind (and probably would've been stuck behind had I not pitted) got eaten alive by the people who pitted before (and would've been eating me alive had I not pitted), and I passed them as well to finish... 9th.

The eyestrain is killing me now though so I'm going to have to settle for that. Also, I thought I disconnected on the last lap because everyone's cars came to a standstill, but thankfully I reconnected. Otherwise I would've gotten 0 points tonight.

I had a guy make a brain-dead attempt to go two wide in the downhill S chicane in sector 2 on lap 1 of 13. While I had the inside line and had half a car length in front of him.

Ruined both his and my race. Oh and btw this was NA Top split. How are there people racing in top split that don't have simple racecraft skills to not pull this crap on lap 1.

FIAGTC 2020-2021 Exhibition Season
Nations Cup
Race #2

Another FIA Race, another discouraging evening. Just haven't been able to keep up this season, and this race was more of the same, after a tough Round 1.

Qualified DEAD LAST in a room of about 35k DR. Worked my way up to 15th by the end, avoiding trouble and just taking what was on offer, with consistent, but apparently off the pace laps in the Miata.

It was a clean race, though I got a bogus penalty when someone ahead binned it on a faster sweeper, and proceeded to plant it broadside on the apex... I could do nothing to avoid hitting him and got a customary 3 sec penalty for it... but I don't think it mattered in the end as I was more than that off of the next few places by the end.

Ran it again, for posterity (I really like the car and track...) on my Alt account (which is now on par with my main account for DR), got matched in an even tougher room, and finished 16th after being passed by some alien on the last turn, who must have run into trouble earlier in the race and been on fresh tires, because he came out of nowhere and went by me like I was standing still. So I guess that's just where I rate right now: 15th or 16th in a 35k DR lobby. It's been consistent in Rd1 and now Rd 2. I'm actually glad I won't be able to make the Manufacturers race at Monza this weekend... I just don't want to race anyway if this is all the better I can do.

Just been discouraging. Losing DR every FIA race... my alt account is now on par with the main one, and I've been racing in Dailies on that one.

PS: AGAIN: why do people insist on racing on the outlaps or qualifying laps?? Had an idiot on my tail in the first race, that distracted me, and then got raced by another who didn't think to leave a gap at the start of our hot laps. Especially in these cars where the draft was not a huge advantage, less so than just driving clean and being on marks during the Qualifying session... so stupid.

Qualified: 20th :irked:
Race Finish: 15th (72 pts)
Door #12

One and done for me in the 1st slot. I tend to practice for qualifying in these one makers and had a good rhythm going into this race but it all went to 🤬.
Qualified 16th and it was a case of WTF? 5 minutes ago every section was nailed (for a mere mortal) soon as the clock started ticking brake markers were missed and throttle control was an alien concept. Got stuck battling mid-pack and that’s where I stayed. #2 on the door finished 11th.

Had no time for another slot, enjoyed the race but was well away from my practice times. No GTP racers to shout out either which sucked.

Nations - Rd3

Don't like that combo, the car is fine but as most of the fictional tracks, you need to really get on the grass in some sections to really get a good time. PD really needs to sort the track limits properly...

Qualy went surprisingly fine, put a 51.8 on the board that was enough for P3 on the grid. Did not help me too much as I started without TC and lost 3 positions till T1. Then it was a race of do not make mistakes. After 4-5 laps I was in a good pace got up to 4th and breathing on the bumper of the French guy in 3rd. Had a better exit from the long right-hander and forced a pass on the esses. He braked there, which surprised me, I got in front but was overoptimistic and as I was already on a compromised racing line I got on the grass before the lefthander. 1s penalty which I served on the start straight - drop-down from 3rd to 7th.

From there on, I was playing catch up to the cars in front, P3 and P4 battling 1.5s in front then P5 and P6. 3 laps before the finish managed to catch them, but pretty hard to make a move stick without killing anyone in that scenario. All the fighting helped a French guy behind which caught up on fresh tyres and he managed to pass me in the last lap before the esses.
Had to settle for P8 and 133 points, not a great result but at least the race itself was pretty fun. It's not a combo where I thought I can get consistent results so took the points.

I dropped about 100 places in the EMEA standings - looking forward to RBR as it is one of my best tracks in the game.

Messed up the s section on my last run which meant I qualified pretty poorly. Managed to stay out of trouble on lap and thankfully managed to stay in the slipstream of the pack ahead. After that I just tried to save my tyres and avoid penalties and luckily everything fell in place pretty nicely for me. So it was a pretty decent result considering where I started

You know sometimes when you really hate this game? Yeah, that was last night.

Slot 1 I set a decent qualifying time for me and started P7. It was a large range of skills though, as I was low SR:S after making the mistake of trying to race Nordschleife in the dailies. Right at the beginning, I get pushed wide going into T1, then pushed off the track from behind going into the first weird chicane. Of course, I get a 2 sec penalty and a SR down for being rude enough to be on a portion of the track that someone else wanted to be on as well. By the time I get back on track, I'm P18. By the time I serve my penalty, I'm P20. It just becomes about damage control at that point as I try to work my way up the grid. I found this a very difficult track to overtake on, with the best option being T4 as most people seemed to go wide enough to get inside them and accelerate out ahead of them. Even then I didn't really get in decent lap times until I undercut the field ahead of me and got clean air. I ended up finishing P10 and restored my SR to 99.

I should've left it there.

Slot 2. I qualy a little better with a P6 but then somehow completely space out during the start and don't press my brake during the false start check. By the time I come out of my daze, I'm hit with almost a 2 sec penalty at the starting line and end up P20 by T1. Much like the first race, I have to fight against the other drivers and this wreck of a penalty system. This time on L1, it's the Chicane of Awkwardness. Someone goes off into the grass and blindly swerves back onto the track - right into me - and I get a 4 sec penalty for it. Again, by the end of L1, I'm P20. Once again, I have a hard time getting through traffic that I know is slower than I am. I do my best at T4, taking advantage of people binning it and try the undercut again. Final 2 laps, I'm making up a lot ground. I make up a 7 sec deficit on P12 during L12. (He was trying a no-stop and failing miserably at the end with the tire wear.) I start to quickly close a 4 sec gap on P11 also trying a no-stop. He bins it in the CoA and I catch P10 in the high speed right-hander before the esses. We just start going into the esses two-abreast. And I get disconnected.

By that time dinner is ready and the wife wants to watch a movie, so I'm done racing for the night. I end up losing 10 SR and almost 2k DR from the disconnect. FML.

We'll see...
There ar some people who seem to have really good races with that guy, I have even had a couple of close lap battles with them when there was different tire strategies. Then they have the times where he just pushes everyone out of the way amd throws a tantrum.

I have the replay, might see what happened. Since I was at the total other end of the field I have no idea.
