Abs off teaches you about braking pressure and how much to use as you get to corners imo,
That said I use weak, I believe fast guys use default but my tyre wear is terrible and I learnt a valuable lesson at monza with abs default,
Bias usually -1 rear for racing and +1 front qualifying (FR) , imma B with 6 months of playing,
Ds4 / wheel makes no difference imo
Ds4 is more fun, less work imo
I recently bought a budget wheel.
I also assume spending a couple grand on wheel will make you pgood

Wheels are wheels, it’s all about personal preference and what you can afford. Some of the fastest guys use T150’s from Thrustmaster, so you can certainly go fast on a budget wheel and home made rig setup. Any wheel will be more fun and add realism vs a controller.

I have heard from controller users that tire wear is better when using a wheel, so that is another benefit for driving with a wheel. 👍

Is it me, or do I see this car at a huge disadvantage here?

On the GT Sport web page for next week's Manu race it says under Pit Info.... Required Tires: Racing Hard/Medium/Soft

Does that mean all three must be used during the race? I know earlier in the season there was a race that required RM and RS that caught a few drivers out.

Anyone done any practice for next week? I've just tried Manu in the Nissan and the tyres are going to kill me. 6 laps on hards and 4 on both medium and soft seems all I can manage, so I'm thinking a three stop. 4/4/4/2.

The Mercedes isn't much better, on the fronts anyway even with rear BB. The 86GT and 4C are surely going to be flying!

One of the interesting ideas Kie25 mentioned was the idea of putting hards and mediums on for the first sting (maybe hards on the front and mediums on the rear) for a couple of laps to begin with, and then run 3 sets of softs. Not sure this will satisfy the requirements of using all the compounds (not sure if the game will just register the harder compound, or whether it will register using both), or if it is even a good idea because it will drop you back at the start and it is really difficult to overtake, but it might be worth a look.

The game displays what you have on the front (edit: that might not actually be the rule for what it displays, but it doesn't really matter for the purposes of this discussion), but I have seen people not get a penalty when they only used a mandatory compound on the rear, so if it only regards one of the two as having been used, the rule for deciding which it is, is definitely not that it's the tyre that was used on the front.

Possible rules it may be using are:
1. It regards both compounds as having been used
2. It only regards the hardest compound as having been used
3. It only regards the compound on the rear as having been used

From the examples I'm aware of, of what people have used without penalty, I'm unable to differentiate between these 3 possible rules, i.e. all 3 would have resulted in the driver receiving no penalty, which is what happened.

If anyone has an example of what someone used with or without penalty that can eliminate one or two of these candidates for the rule it uses, I'd be very interested to know about it.

Its an interesting point you raise as I've not known someone who has tried and succeeded with your first point as we haven't had a race requiring all three compounds be used so it's a good point that possible a RM/RH split front & back may allow you to run softs for the rest of the race. Thanks, that's a useful extra reference point, and it eliminates my 3rd possible rule. I can eliminate your 4th possible rule as I accidentally used the harder compound on the rear in one race, and made no other use of it during the race, and didn't get a penalty. Interesting and thanks for the info, I might try a test in the 1st time slot and see if a RH/RM split counts both as been used as that would eliminate point 1 and point 2 of yours would surely be it. Tidgney actually tried both RS/RM and RM/RS with mandatory mediums. He didn't get a penalty in either case. I used RS/RH for my first stint at Seaside II and didn't get penalized for not using hards, even though the game displayed me as being on softs.

Just tested guys, using mixed compounds DOES NOT GIVE A PENALTY. Ran RH/RM for 4 laps then RS for 5 laps each. The only problem is because I pitted so early I got stuck in traffic in the second stint and lost a place in the end, so if you start high enough it's probably better to go the usual RS>RM>RH to protect your position. If you start near the back, go for it 👍

Yup, I did the same thing at DT Seaside II a couple weeks ago. Mixed tires count and using both sets without penalty.

So I see discussions on starting on a mixed set for the first stint.
So do I understand it that you would run Hard on the front tires and Medium on the rear for the first stint ?
How do you actually change to that after you have done qualifying on all softs ?

And then do SOFT for ALL tires for the subsequent stints (OR still mixed with HARD in the front and soft in the back for each stint ? I dont think you can split on the pit stops so I'm probably wrong on the split for the stints 2 to 3)

Go into car settings in the pre-race lobby. Make sure it's the full settings page, not the quick settings overlay.

In a previous race, I found that only what I changed in driving options took effect, what I changed in car settings had no effect.
