The GT86s and some of the Caymans in my race didn't stop. I'd just about caught up to the GT86 I was racing with before my stop at the end, but wasn't helped by the 1.5s penalty I got for pit lane entry understeerfail.
Interesting. Might have to test out a no-stop on mediums before the races this evening.

Attempting Manufacturers today in the Alfa 4C isn't the best idea I've ever had but felt inspired by the Bathurst 12H.

Qualifying started with a pit bug, resulting in everyone exiting the pits at the same time which made for an interesting traffic jam. Managed to qualify 10th by using the slipstream of another foolhardy Alfa driver, and kicked off on soft tyres.

Despite being shoved wide at turn 1 the first stint actually went okay and I held my own. This MAY have been because everyone around me was on medium tyres

After pitting I'm following an Aston down towards the chase using their slipstream when I brake fractionally too late. I bump them and they did a seriously impressive job at keeping control. I also just about hold it but lose a couple of positions. After that point I basically watch the cars ahead drive away.

Finished 14th for my second lowest score of the season. Not trying again!

As expected it was a bit of a bumpfest.
I qualified 7th in the Jaguar. Tonights excuse is the wife was talking to me about holidays ! FGS woman, I'm qualifying !
Was a really good mix of cars.
T1 fine, however, end of the straight up the hill, scrap yard delight :nervous:
Hit front and rear, limp mode, had to stay out of everyone's way, 18th.
Downhill twists... more damage.
10th end of lap 1
Went into pits end of lap 5, P7 could have got another lap out of the softs, switched to mediums, 2 sec pit lane penalty :banghead:
P9 on penultimate lap, hell breaks out ahead again, manage to take advantage and end up 6th.
Was messy, SR went up and gained 1K DR, but it felt like a lottery again.

Was very alone out there with mine  If the straight line speed were a bit more competitive it'd be a hell of a car though
The Mazda is slower, stops worse, accelerates worse, corners worse, understeers more, eats tyres more and drinks more fuel. I don't think the Toyota needs any improvements by comparison...

Made another alt account. This one is the "do what everyone else is doing" account".
This account will be Mazda permanently. E/B to E/S after two Daily Race B and one Race A.
Entered Manufacturers in a D-C/S room. Finished 38 seconds ahead of the field. Watched the replay. Surprised cars even finished. Wonder if the race time, was close for the next race. Would the race time out?

Jumped in next Nations Free Practice. Started with the LM55. Went straight up to 3rd. Checked this morning and looks like I'll try the SRT.

1st race tonight went wrong in qualifying. I was just about to go on my lap when a guy flew up the inside into the last corner. I thought maybe he wanted to be behind his teammate, but turned out he was on his flying lap so I ended up stuck behind him and qualified back in 14th. Managed to get up to 12th but was put in the wall a couple of times so went again.

2nd race the qualifying went better and I managed to get 2nd. Strangely the guy who won the 1st race was doing it again, so I just hoped to try and hold his slipstream for as long as possible (Strategy was 5 laps Mediums to start and then 5 laps on Softs). It kinda worked for about 3 laps but going up the hill (FF cars are slow up the hill) on lap 3 the guy behind in the jag decided to try and go up the inside going into the 2 fast left handers at the top of the hill (which I was a little grumpy about). That lost me the slipstream so the guy who did the silly move got me going through the chase.

He pitted on lap 4 and I went another lap further with a Lancer and Citroen pushing me all the way. Thankfully he messed up the pit entry on his lap and got a 2 second penalty, so by the time I came out of the pits I was ahead by 2 secs. I wasn't expecting to hold him off as the Jag was so fast on the straight, but when he did try to pass going into the chicane he missed his braking and I managed to ole him. After that I had a 4 second lead and managed to cruise to the end (guy in 1st was 10 seconds ahead). 274 points for the mighty VW Scirocco and above 60000 dr for the 1st time :)

Tried my second time. Qualified on softs, I can go no faster than 2:14:3*
Started on mediums, hard to use the softs in the chaos of lap 1. Kept my p10 for the first lap, overtook one guy when he made a mistake on L2. In lap 4 people started to pit for new tires, I moved up to 8. Then I had a fun battle with an Italian in a Mercedes for a lap, then we pitted both at the end of lap 5. Came out right behind him, was on his bumper until I could slipstream past him right before the braking zone. Then he was on my bumper until I made a mistake on lap 10 and touched the wall right before we went down. He passed me in the first little kink, side bumped me but I kept my right wheels on the track.
Slipstreamed again same spot, but know that he might get the run to the finish line so I gave place on the inside and got a better run-out, finished as p7. 90 points and highest place yet.

Hi everyone!

Been lurking on these forums for a while, figured I might as well register an account and join in :)

A very good weekend for me in the FIA races...

Nations @ Nurburgring 24H
Glad I'd done my homework for this one. That fuel drain was crazy! I like the full Nurburgring circuit, but when it comes to racing on it, waaaaaaargh. Primary goal - find a car that I would feel comfortable doing 3 laps of the Green Hell on. That ended up being the Subaru WRX.

I hung around in the pits for a very long time at the start, as I figured the range of quali times around here would be massive, and I'm glad I did. After a gentle outlap to preserve fuel and tyres, I put in an 8:36 and bagged myself a start in P5. Already doing much better than expected! I figure I'll start on the mediums to try to preserve my good starting position through lap 1 and see how things go from there. If I got space I'd go all out to try create enough of a gap to pit into and then do 2 laps on the hards. If not, I'd save fuel and go 2M>1H.

When the race starts, the Toyota in P4 gets off to an unusually slow start, so already gained a position before turn 1. Going great until... he punts me wide going into turn 2, and then proceeds to punt the Ferrari (very brave soul!!) that started in P3 off at turn 3 straight after. :irked: Not impressed.

I gradually close the gap until I'm practically on top of his bumper down Kottenborn and Schwedenkreuz, and I now have a Beetle right up my bumper too. :scared: The Toyota goes through the left-hander unexpectedly slow forcing me and the Beetle to brake for him. When it came to braking for Aremberg, I was a touch too late due to being squeezed very tightly between the two cars and gave the Toyota a slight push off onto the gravel, and the Beetle goes around the outside of me in the ensuing moments. Not proud of that, but I didn't get a penalty. Karma for the Toyota's earlier antics at the start of the race?

The lap proceeds from there, with me following the in the Beetle's slipstream until Galgenkopf, when disaster strikes. I take it too early, mount the kerb and get thrown across the track from the car destabilising. A wheel on the grass and HELLO SPIN. The Beetle is now long gone out of sight, and even worse, the 7 second gap I'd built up behind has just evaporated. Thankfully, the Aston Martin in P5 almost lost it through Galgenkopf himself and was carrying a 1 second penalty, so I managed to avoid being passed down Dottinger.

I check my fuel and find I've saved just about enough short-shifting in the Beetle's slipstream to do my second lap without pitting. That lap was fairly uneventful, save for one of the leaders in front spinning out in the bends after the first carousel so now up to P3!

I pit with 7% fuel left, throw on the fresh Hards and fill up to about 62-63% fuel. Time to go all out and see if I can hold this, because the car behind me (who started from the back of the grid) had been bearing down on me for a while. Going well until... I don't slow down enough for Hohe Acht and do a little bit of wall riding. Position lost, down to P4 again, and the Aston Martin is right on my tail!

Then something unexpected happened - the Beetle suddenly leaves the race. Checking the replay, I'm guessing a disconnect. Either way, back up to P3 - GIVE ME THAT PODIUM! Thankfully I managed to carry that all the way through to the end, scoring 96 points - my highest points result ever, and a boost to my DR that put it to the highest it's ever been. Really pleased with the outcome. :D

Manufacturers @ Bathurst
This season has been a real challenge. I picked Ferrari without uh, test driving the Group 3 properly. That thing is just so horrendously prone to spin for no reason at all it seems - thus the comment about the brave soul in the Nations above...

The Group 4 though, I love that car. So I've been trying to make the most of the Group 4 races where I can.

After a rather nerve-wracking qualifying where a Toyota spun out right in front of me at the right-hander on the chicane at the end of The Chase on my first flying lap, I place P4. Another promising start! Time to throw on the Mediums and try to hold on.

The first few laps of the race are relatively uneventful, although I have a Toyota bearing down on me who clearly has a lot more pace than I do. When it gets to Lap 4 however, his patience had clearly run out as he went for a very aggressive lunge through the chicane at the top of The Esses. I was not expecting that at all, so we collide and I push him into the wall, gaining myself a 1 second penalty. I'm not sure what I could have done to avoid that since I was already riding the kerb. :(

I get made to serve my penalty almost immediately, and drop down to P6 behind an Aston Martin. I manage to close the gap over the remainder of the lap and throughout lap 5 (he was now on quite worn softs) and pit in right behind him. The pit crew replace my worn Mediums with Softs and now it's time to PUSH... except upon emerging from the pits I find that the Aston Martin and I are behind a Lamborghini who hasn't pitted yet, and we get held up. :indiff:

The Aston Martin manages to push past the Lamborghini on his fresh rubber down the Chase, and I'm in hot pursuit. The Lamborghini takes a rather strange line into the chicane from trying to defend against me whilst also trying to attack the Aston Martin, and with my fresh softs I have the grip to get on his left. He ended up slowing down because he wanted to pit, and I was in his way.

Time to start hunting down the Aston Martin, and I manage to get right up to his bumper and stay there through the Esses (with no contact ). There's a Ford up front with a 2 second penalty, and he's made to serve it at the start of the Chase. Now for the scary bit. I'm slipstreaming the Aston Martin, and the Ford is sitting in the middle of the track going slowly from his penalty. I go left, the Aston Martin goes right and we're 3 wide for a moment! I barely have the speed required to get in front of the Aston Martin and take a very defensive line into the chicane to hold it. From P6 to P4 in a very scary (but satisfying) bit of clean racing. I hold the P4 from there until the end, bagging myself 97 points (new record!) and push my DR even further to my new high of 23.1k. :D:D

The Aston Martin also thanked me for the clean racing at the end. Poor guy looked like he got pushed around a lot when I watched the replay. :(

Can't seem to find a room to practice in. Either can't connect to the host or by the time I get in and settled the hosts closes it down.

Edit: And now I'm frozen on a joining screen. Pure gold.

Second effort I qualified 8th and finished 8th. At the end of lap 1 or 2 I went three wide into the last corner. It went about as well as you could have expected.

2-stopped again, got pointlessly held up on lap 6 into the Chase by a guy in a Jag who pitted anyway. Ended up following him for the last few laps after I pitted again and he had a squabble with a Ferrari ahead going into the Chase on the last lap. I went past on the exit and he divebombed me for 8th on the last lap. Do these positions really mean that much to people? He'd already barged the Ferrari wide and somehow gave him a penalty for it, what else was he looking for?

Got another position as the Ferrari hadn't used mediums. I feel a bit better about my two races after watching @Tidgney's stream mind you.

Anyone have tire choice issues when entering a fia race? I have to make my tire choice in my garage before entering the race, and then can only change tires in the pits.????

You can change tyres to all of the available options at any time in the pre-qualifying and pre-race screens, by selecting the gear icon rather than the spanner/wrench icon.

The Cayman gets absolutely murdered on the mountain. It can’t even keep up when in a draft. Thankfully the last lap was a reenactment of that Macau GT race which gave me a chance to make up places. Settling for 9th and 131pts and will go all out at Leguna next week instead.

I always skip races at Tokyo, Nordschleife and Bathurst so that’s probably why I’ve never noticed. It’s fast enough to keep up at all the tracks without super long straights. I’ve outdragged and passed most of the MR cars this season on the short straights whereas the WRX can’t even do that.

Probably it's because you have a better exit from the previous corner than the other cars + draft + the extra power effect I mentioned. It's not impossible to overtake cars with the Mazda, but like-for-like, with the same driver the Mazda will get left behind on the longer straights.

The stickied fuel consumption thread also has top speeds for all cars which corroborates my testing. And if you're even more of a nerd, a Japanese guy did a straight line test comparing the top Gr.3 cars, average and the Atenza (source: https://gt-engine.com/lab/car_perf/straight_speed.html).

P.S. Sorry for the giant images. Maybe one of the mods can resize it or teach me how.

Well, started off great qualifying P2. Race started, got to the lead and just tried to hang on until the first stop. Got passed going into the chase and then 3rd tried to pass me in the last corner and I got nudged just hard enough to send me off the track. Fell to 4th. Thankfully 5th was a ways behind. Then, while coming in for my pit stop, I nudged the barrier on the left and it promptly sent me into the barrier on the right. To top it all off, took the wrong damn tires on the stop so had to come in a 3rd time. Finished P9 I believe. Will try again...

Also, I find it funny when people look at the points available for the lobby and quit because they're not high enough. Doesn't help that them quitting ruins it for everyone else in the lobby. Top 5 would have been worth 250+ and I would have been stoked with that...

Well, after getting DC’d from a 12 driver lobby in the first time slot I had to try again. The second go went much better.

I got put it the big boy room again with door #11 to start. Qualifying went pretty well and I Q’d P4, 1.1 off of Pole and .8 ahead of P5, we’re off to a good start. :)

Race starts and after T1 P5 and back fell back and were out of the slipstream before we crested the mountain on the first lap. It was just me, 2 GTR’s and a Merc up front. I knew the GTR’s would kill their tires so I stayed patient and waited for opportunities. I managed get by both of them before the pit stop, but came out right in between them after stopping.

By this time the Merc has a huge lead and the battle for P2 was on between me and one of the GTR’s, as the other had fallen back. Then the unexpected happens, the leader pits again on the end of lap 9? He had run softs twice I think, don’t know if it was on purpose or by mistake, but it was a gift none the less. That left me 1 lap to find a way by this GTR with dying tires. It came down to the final lap and the 2nd last corner, but I finally got by coming down the big straight and held on to the finish line. What an awesome race! And my biggest haul of the season as well. :D
