Anyone have tips on how to drive the Veyron Gr. 4 for the upcoming Nations race? I'm having difficulty finding a way to reliably rotate it, since sometimes it just understeers when I ease off the brakes, while other times it actually starts to turn-in. It seems like rotating off-throttle is the best way, but I'm not sure if that's just me or not.

For me the AWD cars all seem to respond "backwards" to the brake bias. In other words, they actually rotate better when you move the bias to the front. I'm running the Veyron at -3. Any more and it locks the front wheels going into that awful curved braking zone at the start of the 2nd sector. I'm not sure what that does for front tire wear, but it's more comfortable for me to drive that way.

I was thinking of trying this out but had to stop, since I was moving the brake bias rearwards and it was only making things worse. I'll have to give it a go and see if I have time to test tire wear for the race. Thanks!
 
Do I have to take part in the Manufacturer Series in order to claim the Credits/MP prizes at the end of the season? Or can I just have a look at the rankings before the final race and sign up for the Manufacturer that is most likely to win?

It won't be comfortable for you for more than three laps! I feel like I'm quicker with neutral bias rather than rear (not tried front yet) so may move it forward for qualy, but for the race it's going ALL the way to the back, then with some tyre management I reckon I can get the fronts to last the race. The Veyron murders the fronts

You don't have to race, just sign up. So I'd guess you could do it right at the end

I've loved this thing ever since I saw it in the GT4 intro some 14 years ago, so I chose it for this season of Manufacturers. Time set 1:34.993. :)

Yeah this is what I'm afraid of. I didn't get a chance to practice but from what I heard from other people I was planning to do a 1-stop, since I'm terrible at tire saving anyway. I might have to pit at exactly halfway instead of going slightly past it, but if I can get the tires to last at least 5 laps I think it'll be worth it to get the extra rotation when braking. It might be a gamble pitting before everyone else and coming out in traffic, but I'll take that chance.
 
Whelp, there goes any good standings. After some talking with a Fanatec Customer Service rep (they have those? I didn’t know either), I’m going to send my wheel base in to get the wheel detection sensor fixed.

Probably have a few tests with the pad, but I have a feeling this seasons a wash.

Those tyres can last for the whole race if you set the break balance to -5 lol
just had a test race and able to maintain at 2:06.5-9 in the first 5-6 laps, 2:07 until the end of the race... hope i can get a top 10 finish...
 
I am a little surprised at how many people are talking about a pit stop for Nations. I only ran one practice race, and there was only one other A+ driver in the lobby, but both of us ran a no-stopper and honestly the tires didn't seem too bad to me until the last lap or two. The other fast guy in the lobby was about a half-second faster on his fastest lap, but his tires fell of way more than mine at the end and he was never able to catch me, and in fact he was losing a lot of time in the final stages of the race. I think I'm getting better at tire-saving, but I'm not alien level in that regard. This thing steers like a boat anyway, but perhaps I should try to push a little harder to squeeze more pace out of the tires and consider a pit stop. I'll at least keep an open mind when it comes to race time. This is somewhat of slipstream-heavy track so it might be worth staying out if there's some draft to be had there. I guess we'll see what the top guys in the other regions do....thus is the benefit of playing in NA region and being the last to race.
 
Hey everyone. Long time no see.

I quit GT Sport near the start of the Pre-Season after a run of consecutive races that were infuriating beyond belief, filled with dirty drivers and unfair penalties, but the GT7 announcement brought back the racing itch and there's only one way to scratch it... :rolleyes:

I see some of the races this season are going to approach being 40 minutes long - that's mental! A bit nervous about racing competitively for that long without making mistakes, but at least it should hopefully add a bigger variety of strategies to races. Manufacturer Round 1 is going to be a test of nerves doing the Chicane of Death™ 23 times in a row without binning it into a wall!

I'm going Mitsubishi this season as I've never driven for them before, and they seem very rare. I'm struggling to remember when the last time I saw one was! :confused:

Not sure what these cars are about yet. Early impressions are that the power isn't fantastic, but the Group 3's handling feels good. Group 4 feels a little stiff around corners and I'm guessing that's due to being 4WD. I've only ever driven FR and MR before. Fuel economy and tyre life seem reasonable too. Only having 5 gears on the Group 4 is also going to take some getting used to.

I see people talking about power circuits this season, so if the speed on these cars is slow I guess I'll have to try big braining my way up the grid instead!

Hoping I can get back up to A/S soon after being kicked down to B/S previously. Beyond that, I guess I'm just trying to see what I can do with an uncommon manufacturer - maybe try to squeeze into the EMEA Mitsubishi Top 10 for S rank if I'm lucky!

Here's hoping I'll bump into people during the races. :cheers: (Figuratively of course! :lol:)
 
I think no stopping in Nations is the way to go. I've done a few practice races and no stopping seems to work the best. There's not a lot in it time wise but pitting means you'll likely be back in traffic and lose your tyre advantage needing to make passes or getting held up. As others have said, the drop off doesn't really kick in until the last 2 laps, where admittedly it's understeer hell but if you can look after the tyres it looks to be the better strategy.

If you can do those lap times then you should definitely not pit :lol: My fastest tenth lap on a single set of tyres is a 2:09. I've normally slipped into a 2:08 by lap 8. Keeping in the 7's until the end is seriously impressive.

Overall the strategies are close though. My clear "time trial" runs were within a couple of tenths of each other. I can see both working depending on how the race plays out and the temptation for fresh rubber will be strong given how the Veyron turns at the best of times.

Just as a side note, does anyone think PD are going to do anything with the 2020 season? As it stands we have 5 'winners', with 1 from each region, but no clear overall winner. Is that it? I'm sure a live event is off the cards with various travel restrictions in place but I'd hope PD say something about how this should officially end.

If I could run a 2:04.xxx I'd not bother with a pit stop, that's for sure!

I think that in reality, in most A and B lobbies, the advantage of the no-stopper is better than assumed, FWIW. Too often I get caught up behind someone, and in a sprint race like this one, it only takes one or two laps on a stint to negate the advantage of fresh tires. It's funny... PD usually seem to know 'right about where' the theoretical break point is, and set up the races right on that line!

I actually think it's easier for you top-split guys to sort it out... the theoretical best times are much closer to your actual race times, and therefore it seems easier to guess whether it is best to risk the pit stop or not. Throw in the mess that some of the A and B lobbies see in reality, and well, throw the strategy out the window in 50% of the races!

I think this is where the 'Exhibition' definition comes into the FIA season for this go-round... there isn't an official winner at the end.

I mean the 30 round season that ended a couple of weeks ago. The official 2020 season. Not the Exhibition season that starts tomorrow.

...oh: I just assumed that since they announced that info could be shared later, after the season started, and since the pandemic is still limiting major gatherings around the world, that now that they announced the new exhibition season is starting, that the notion of a world championship for the prior season is no longer. I don't expect they will address it, but maybe I was wrong to assume that.
 
I pulled the trigger on the Corvette for this season, and I've been practicing DTS since it's not a track I've driven before this.

I *just* managed to hit high 39s after god knows how many laps. Sector 1 I've got a pretty decent handle on, sector 2 is terrible, and sector 3 is OK minus having to go pretty slow through the infamous chicane.

Looking at my splits versus faster guys I'm like two seconds down by the second split already...

But hey, it's only the first race. My times on Monza are way more competitive :)
 
For those of you that were able to run practice races, was fuel an issue? I ran two full-length practices, one with BB to 0 and BB to +3. The difference in tire wear for me was almost identical, so I might just leave BB to +1 or something for the race. Both stints though, I was at 0% fuel at the end of 10 laps, and this was with shifting at 75% of the RPM bar for power to begin with. I'm hoping this means some people in my A lobbies will end up having to pit for fuel?

Definitely not feeling this car though. I'm only able to run in the 2:08s for the first 5 laps or so, which then turn into 2:09s for laps 6-8 and then 2:10s for lap 9 and 10.

Fuel was not a problem for me when I did a run
