For those of you that were able to run practice races, was fuel an issue? I ran two full-length practices, one with BB to 0 and BB to +3. The difference in tire wear for me was almost identical, so I might just leave BB to +1 or something for the race. Both stints though, I was at 0% fuel at the end of 10 laps, and this was with shifting at 75% of the RPM bar for power to begin with. I'm hoping this means some people in my A lobbies will end up having to pit for fuel?

Definitely not feeling this car though. I'm only able to run in the 2:08s for the first 5 laps or so, which then turn into 2:09s for laps 6-8 and then 2:10s for lap 9 and 10.
I wish I could get down to 0% fuel by the end! I've got about 30% left after 10 laps shifting at just after the gear indicator.

Were the settings correct in the lobby? With x3 taking me to around 30%, x4 would probably take me to very close to empty

Evening Ladies and Gents, had some work/family/life issues stealing my time so haven't been as active in my brief time on here. Had a miserable last couple races of the season as well!! Looking forward to the new one and seeing how all my new GT buds get on. Good luck to everybody and hope to see a lot of you on the track!:gtpflag:

[goes off track At Big Willow in dailies again, uncharacteristically ruining a decent race, for second time in a row]

:banghead:

[checks again to see if Big Willow is on The Nations or Manufacturers FIA schedule]

:)

:banghead::banghead::banghead: I set fuel consumption to x4, not x3, that's why. Sounds like we can afford to burn fuel at the starting line then because we'll have excess, right? (Since I may not have time to practice again.)

So this is going to be new. With the later slots set I think I am going to be first slot most times on wednesday if I time it right, but it means zero practice time that night before the race. Might have to alter my no practice routine since that relied on a solid 6 to laps warm up before the races and it doesnt look like I can always get that now.

Edit. TIRES!!!!! Save tires! I qualified p10 on a field with @ShiftingGears and thought I slid through the carnage at the start, but a tap in the rear got me 2 seconds! Dropped from p5 after that to p10, then racing with @ShiftingGears I was on his outside and we barely touched. I got the penalty, I think he left the room? I dont know. Not his fault, stupid system. I didnt think I did anything wrong and I know he didn't. Anyway. Tried to climb back to salvage anything after that, slightly touched a wheel on the grass at the big right hander after the penalty zone, slid, ate my tires and that's all she wrote.

Just dropped back to near last from there. Should have pitted but didnt think it was worth fighting that hard over last 2 spots. Then I slid in the esses and a guy I had problems with in Manu last season couldn't avoid and punted me into the wall. He got 2 seconds and a temper. I was now DFL. Ugly race, I had speed but wasn't consistent and made my mistakes. Sorry I caused the accident with last season's joker but I was out of control. And sorry if I screwed up @ShiftingGears, I was all the way to the outside edge.

Good luck to you all, drive smooth.

Did you just have to move? Or getting everything reset or NBN?
Just found out council were upset they'd have to dig to set up NBN. My building is brand new and NBN ready. You think they'd set it up as they approved the building construction. The pit is across the road! No need to go into the ass backwards way council are, in decision making.

Looks like it might be right in a couple weeks.

I know councils well enough to know they always favour the difficult, convoluted hard way about things

There's something off about the Veyron. I know it's a very heavy car compared with its 4WD counterparts, but it's just not strong enough in any area of performance to make it a good racecar.

It's average under brakes, averaqge through the medium speed corners and not even very good out of corners despite the engine. The only thing I feel it has going for it is that it is stable though most corners. But perhaps Lago Maggiore isn't the best track to show what this car is capable of.

It's a weird car to drive. Maybe it's better with a wheel, but it felt like the Huracan, but worse in every way. Cornering improves on the throttle, just not enough to make up for the agonising amount of time it takes waiting to get through to that point in the corner. For me, at least.

Sorry for understeering into you, I didn't practice and as it turns out I've no idea how to drive the Bugatti and still have no idea how to drive Maggiore. Quit because I was hungry and 10 laps of tyre saving and understeer isn't my idea of fun haha.

Hey man, like I said, nothing done wrong, shouldn't have been a penalty. You did better to quit than I did to keep racing.

Finally got it working. And I’m not even quite sure how.

My first race is best summed up by setting my fastest 4 laps at the end of the race on a no-stopper. After a poor start thanks to all the bouncing around in the first two turns, was stuck in traffic for most of it.

penalty system fun

edit: My second race of the night was much more successful. Started in 4th and lost two spots on the first lap. Lost another two on lap four. Got myself back into 7th on lap 5 and stayed there comfortably on another no-stopper.

Why have they cut half the EMEA slots out again. Last slot for Saturday is 20:20. That’s no good!!!:lol::lol:

I usually run on the NA servers and for this exhibition season the races start at 0200 and go to 0700 Thursday/Saturday. I had to open an account to run EMEA just so I can run this season. At least the races start at 1600 and end by 2200.

Sometimes being a transplant (or EXPAT) is not advantageous. This season is one of those times.

This is the first time I'm using Manual instead of Auto (SSRX does not count), so that I can convince this absolute unit to rotate. I qualified 10th in a mixed A/B lobby.

After redlining through the race intro and grid start, I had a rough start, dropping 1 place and getting punted into the car ahead of me heading into turn 2. Fortunately, I got off without a SR drop. The only other notable lap 1 incident was stealth-salvius channeling his inner Vettel at the turn 5 hairpin and binning it from 2nd to 11th.

After avoiding penalties for light contact twice and getting up to 8th on lap 3 turn 1, 7th and above were already well off into the distance. The rest of my race was mostly quiet, besides rio_666s occasionally challenging me for 8th. I held onto 8th to collect a tidy 105 points. One and done.

I love Maggiore but the Veyron is a barge. No one would choose it, but I guess that's the point with these off season races, trying odd stuff and see what works.
Exactly... that's why I like the one-makes... I would never choose the Veyron against a field of other Gr4 cars... but a grid of equals, that's fun to drive something different!

Nations Round 1
The nerves returning to FIA racing after several months away, yikes. :nervous: I was physically shaking so much I was struggling to trailbrake for the first half of the race.

Mixed A/S-B/S lobby, qualified in P9 with a 2:07.499 after a bit of a meh qualifying. I had some good sectors, but struggled to hook them all together. Would never have reached pole position though, that guy set a 2:05.967 and was pretty much a second clear of P2!

I got a good launch off the line, moving up to P6 briefly through turn 1 before dropping back down to P7 going through turn 2. From there it was a bit of a melee for a while whilst everyone was bunched up, but I thankfully managed to avoid making any contact. Lap 2 was eventful, moving from P7 to P5 through the hairpin at the start of sector 2. I'd gotten a good run on a Spaniard after he had a poor exit on turn 4, moving up alongside him on the inside line. Another Spaniard went too wide just in front and went off onto the grass.

I spent the next couple of laps trying to catch up with an Austrian, gaining a position on lap 3 after a Brit had a 2 second penalty for something. I made a move at the banked hairpin on lap 4 which put us side-by-side for a bit. Our fighting let one of the Spaniards I'd previously overtaken catch up, and hello 3-way battle for P3!

Back up to P4 after the Spaniard tries to go up the inside of the Austrian at the sector 2 hairpin, only to have to back out at the last moment and swerve left to avoid going up the back of him. I repeat the overtake on the Austrian at the banked hairpin to move up to P3, but then slide wide through the final sector so he took it back... and then he went for a pit stop.

I was on a no-stop strategy so I just continued on. The Spaniard overtook me at turn 1 of lap 6, and we ever so slightly made contact during it. He ended up falling back due to a 3 second penalty, and watching the replay back, I see it came from the contact with me. Not cool, PD. There was absolutely no harm done, he really didn't deserve that! 👎:grumpy:

From there it was just a straight drive to the end. P3, 131 points. One and done, I'm very happy with that!

Well that was interesting - and I'm not going back there!

Jumped into the second slot and found myself alongside @Hasnain282

Qualified well, a 2:05.7 on my first run eventually being enough for 6th. Got blocked by a daydreaming Brit through the esses on my second lap, and couldn't improve on my final run.

Into the race, got off the line fine, lost one place to someone through T2 then another I think into T4 and settled into 8th. Hasnain (starting 3rd) had obviously been swamped early on and after a couple of laps he was the car ahead. With a very aggressive Czech driver behind, I'd had a couple of touches then going into T1 I gave Hasnain a tap, nothing big, no places lost, no real time loss, 1s penalty... EACH! If I thought mine was harsh Hasnain's was ridiculous. Get bumped again by the Czech before serving the penalty, who also had his own to serve. He proceeded to push me off in the final corner of the lap in order to get past, the Brit who held me up in qualifying takes advantage as I recover, then I pick up another 1s penalty for what I assume was compressing the air between him and myself, dropping me to 14th after serving it.

Chasing a different Brit, and all over him, going into T5 I pull out of the tow to get a clearer view of the track, we brake and because I'm gradually drawing alongside (guess I didn't brake quite as hard as usual), I turn it into a pass. He turned in, and we made contact. I felt at the time that I'd left plenty of room - which I had in a sense! On review, he could have turned in wider but I wasn't exactly on the yellow kerb on the inside and was probably a bit hot into the corner, so while not deliberate, definitely untidy and I apologised to him after the race after seeing the replay.

Got down to chasing that dirty Czech, who was in a group of four, including Hasnain, with the lead car seemingly really struggling on tyres. Caught up in no time, noticed two of them had penalties, got to the penalty zone and it turned out three of them had penalties so gained three spots, up to 10th, and chasing Hasnain again - with the Czech behind me.

*The timeline might be slightly off here!

Closing in I couldn't quite get a proper run to attempt an overtake, then on L9 trying to push through the esses I ran wide, putting me back towards the Czech - who has already barged past once and shown he thinks pushing people around is part of racing (or because he's been 75k+, thinks he has a right to barge past us mere mortals). I defend the inside down to Big Banky Boy, take it nicely but he gets a slightly better drive out. His nose might have been level with my back wheel going into the left-right, but unsurprisingly he decides not to attempt to take it tighter, leaving room for me, and pushes into me again - this is the third serious contact we've had - I guess he felt I'd back out of the right hander and let him have a free run rather than return the favour on the exit...

With a 2s gap to him I got after Hasnain again and we had a nice little battle for half a lap or so, the closest I got was trying to go around the outside at the double right hander near the end but I couldn't quite carry the speed, Hasnain defended it well, and we finished a quarter of a second or so apart for a couple of top ten finishes.

The Czech driver had managed to drop his SR down to B, which was pretty impressive, but he highlighted what I was slightly concerned about with this race (and seems to have been prevalent in quite a few races). To go quick(ish) in the Veyron you need to brake for the corners in plenty of time, which encourages dive bombs, to save tyres you again need to brake in plenty of time, which encourages them more. Could have been a very fun race, and it had its moments, but it only needs one or two who want to be the last of the late brakers all the time to make it something I'm not attempting again

177 points. Now to pick a manufacturer and maybe even attempt a livery!

Well last season was my first on the Nations cup and genuinely loved it. Penalty system wasn't ideal but other than that it was awesome.

Had 2 races tonight and the standard of driving was awful... B/S race's and were both way worse than any race out the last 30.

Hopefully the standard of driving will improve in the next ones but if its like that for the rest I'm out
