Easy to drive. Great all around car. Underpowered on the hill. Different gearing?

VW Golf '05 1:56.936
DP 8.3
Liked the trans. Liked the grip and rotation till I gave it gas. Then it wanted to push out.

DP 8.6
Good trans. Good suspension.

Honda Civic Type -R '08 1:55.39

So, this must be the one you were unhappy with. Lots of tire spin. Front end has this nasty grip then release deal going. Still fast....just not comfortable.

brian wolf
VW Golf '76 2:00.800
DP 8.7
Sharp, stable, little wheel spin. Consistent lap to lap.

VW Golf '04 1:58.001
DP 8
Will over rotate. Front steers on gas, rear off gas. Timing into throttle is everything.. Grip is grabby...would like to see it a little more predictable.

CLSACR
Honda Life Van 1:59.483
DP 9.7
Perfect balance, grip, rotation. Pleasant surprise.

Honda Odyssey '03 1:56.440

Honda Civic '83 2:00.751
Darts around a lot. More so under hard braking. Good grip and rotation.

Honda Civic '04
DP 8
Same as above, more pronounced. Front end has a funny sideways jump going from hard brake to hard throttle. Dives for the wall in hard, down hill braking.

Trans. matches car and track well. No bad habits...just couldn't make it go faster.

This is my first time tuning any FWD car. I probably have over 100 laps in them, each. Tried to make them slide a little into the corner with the rear and have the front pull up out of the corner and away from the wall.

Another great van tune. And the only one I tipped over.

Honda Odyssey '03 2:00.306

Wasn't expecting this. Fast, great handling, a little twitchey under braking.

Cooper S '11 1:56.694

Almost too much rotation. Doesn't like fast transition from gas to brake.

shaunm80

Great brakes...don't use them. Hard to carry speed. Down on power, great handling.

Cooper S '11 1:57.180

Low speed turning is good. Car slides around more than I would like. Didn't like brakes.

I think the gear package is holding this tune back.

Honda Odyssey '03 2:00.9347

Slender Man
Focus ST 170 '03 2:00.982

Safe, stable, predictable, great brakes.....needs more speed. Maybe different gearing?

Focus ST '13 1:58.598
DP 8
Heavy, understeer. Hard to make go fast.

My internet crashed twice while I was trying to post this. If my comments seem a little sharp, I apologize. Not my favorite track, however it showed me just how conservative my driving style is. Something I will have to work on. All cars were tested twice, 10 laps first round, 5 laps the second. I got all out of them I could.
Nice job here, great review 👍
Thanks for testing both of my cars, but to be honest, I really did not like the older of the two. Not that I was all that happy with the newer either :irked:. Mostly was unsure if it was me or just the fact I always struggle at the track.:dopey:
You managed some consistent times there, great job.:)

Thanks for taking the time to drive these cars and for the review!

Just a quick observation, I think you're missing the laptime for @coryclifford '04 civic, and DP rating for one of the 500's.

Well, its been a long old test session but the results are finally in! I`ve tried my best to be consistant in testing. But, If anyone feels their times are off, I still have all tunes made up on separate cars and will be happy to re-test if @Motor City Hami deems it appropriate.

1500 3 door Lap time: 1:58.464 DC: 8
Type R Lap time: 1:53.118 DC: 8.5
Impression of tunes;

New : Better than the old tune An easy drive with consistant laps. Well done.

@brian wolf -Golf I 76 and V 05
Golf I Lap time: 1:57.149 DC: 8.5
Golf V Lap time: 1:52.656 DC: 9

@CSLACR - Honda Life Step Van and Odyssey

Odyssey Lap time: 1:54.563 DC: 7.5

@coryclifford - Civic 1500 & Type R
1500 3 door Lap time: 1:57.612 DC: 8.5
Type R Lap time: 1:53.723 DC: 8
Impression of tunes;
Old : Nice and loose. Low ride height gave some vibration around the tight corners.
New : Nice tune. Very similar in feel, but not quite as much fun as the old. Well done.

@DaBomm4 - Focus ST170 and ST 13
ST170 Lap time: 1:58.069 DC: 7.5
ST Lap time: 1:54.613 DC: 7.5
Impression of tunes;
Old : Felt a bit stiff. Gearing was off for me. I was between gears alot.
New : Stiff again. But with much better rotation. Good gearing. Well done.

@DolHaus - Civic 1500 and Type R
1500 3 door Lap time: 1:57.872 DC: 8.5
Type R Lap time: 1:53.033 DC: 8
Impression of tunes;
Old : Nice, fun tune for a twisty circuit.
New : Lacked a little poise around the swimming pool section. Not quite as well balanced as the old tune. But still quick. Well done.

@feydrautha -Fiat 500F and 500 1.2 8V
500F Lap Time: 2:00.548 DC: 8
500 1.2 Lap Time: 1:54.877 DC: 8
Impression of tunes;
Old : I had to enter corners too fast to induce some understeer! Then It required LOTS of throttle control to make it out the other side. Good fun though.
New : Felt eager. Liked to be thrashed. A proper hot hatch. Well done.

@fordracer - Peugeot 206 and 207
206 S16 Lap Time: 1:57.423 DC: 8

Life Step Van Lap time: 1:57.133 DC: 8
Odyssey Lap time: 1:56.880 DC: 7.5
Impression of tunes
Old : Like all the lifeless vans mommentum was required. And with this tune it was easy to keep it up.
New : Brave man to add weight to a heavy car. Nearly pulled it off. Maybe more power to the rear wheels?
Well done.

@Lionheart2113 - Honda CR-X and CR-Z
CR-X Lap time: 1:58.078 DC: 7.5
CR-Z Lap time: 1:53.707 DC: 8
Impression of tunes;
Old : Gearing felt long. And it needed to be bullied into corners.
New : Smokin`!! More fun, but still not enough natural rotation for me.

@Motor City Hami - Golf I 73 and V 05
Golf I Lap time: 1:56.415 DC: 9.5
Golf V Lap time: 1:53.104 DC: 7.5
Impression of tunes;
Old : More rotation under hard breaking and it would have been a perfect 10.
New : I Seemed to be constantly changing gear. Which made driving a complex circuit more difficult. Brakes felt a bit soft into the chicane after the tunnel. Still quick though. Well done.

@OdeFinn - CRX and CR-Z
CR-X Lap time: 1:57.247 DC: 8
CR-Z Lap time: 1:54.389 DC: 7
Impression of tunes;
Old : Gearing felt long. Turn 1 was difficult to get a fast entry. Nice balance around the rest of the track though.
New : Very stiff. Also suffered at turn 1. Outside tyre wheelspin made corner exit more difficult. Nice though the chicane and swimming pool complex. Well done.

@Otaliema - Mini 1.3i and Cooper S
1.3i Lap time: 1:56.044 DC: 8
Cooper S Lap time: 1:52.647 DC: 10
Impression of tunes;
Old : Strange mix of great rotation and understeer. Ballast too far forward? Bloody quick through 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. Better into turn 1 and I would have been easily into the 55`s.
New : Proper hot hatch. Last tune I tested. I`d already given it a 10 before It ran the fastest lap of all.
Well done.

@shaunm80 -Mini 1.3i and Cooper S
1.3i Lap time: 1:57.932 DC: 7
Cooper S Lap time: 1:54.314 DC: 7.5
Impression of tunes;
Old : Needed to be on the power all the way through the corner to get rotation. Not aggressive enough for me under hard braking, needed more rotation.

Life Step Van Lap time: 1:57.443 DC: 7
Odyssey Lap time: 1:54.630 DC: 8

New : Nice tune. Grippy at the front, looser at the back. Well done.

@Slender_Man -Focus ST 170 and ST 13
ST170 Lap time: 1:58.853 DC: 7.5
ST Lap time: 1:54.855 DC: 7.5
Impression of tunes;
Old : Too stable for me. Needed to be very smooth to keep the grip.
New : Again needed to be smooth. And the inside wheel would spin on corner exit. But, much easier to rotate and would be good on a long run. Well done.

Well, its been a long old test session but the results are finally in! I`ve tried my best to be consistant in testing. But, If anyone feels their times are off, I still have all tunes made up on separate cars and will be happy to re-test if @Motor City Hami deems it appropriate.

Thanks again for the hard work tuning, testing and writing up reviews!

Well, its been a long old test session but the results are finally in! I`ve tried my best to be consistant in testing. But, If anyone feels their times are off, I still have all tunes made up on separate cars and will be happy to re-test if @Motor City Hami deems it appropriate.

Wasn't expecting this. Fast, great handling, a little twitchey under braking.

Cooper S '11 1:56.694

Almost too much rotation. Doesn't like fast transition from gas to brake.
Sorry for the twitchy but that's the only way to make a FF fast on Côte 'd Azure it's all about carrying speed and stable doesn't do that well. Great lap times in the cars. I'll post some more stable race friendly versions once I this is done. Great job with the testing 👍

:eek: Seriously fast laps there Brian. Great consistent lapping, I feel slow now :lol: great to hear you enjoyed the cars.

I'll get the points sheet updated in a day or two. Lots going on with work, life and the SCCA season. Busy, busy, busy.

So, other than criticizing my friend's tunes (in person) this will be my first time telling other people what I think of their tunes. I'm known as a naysayer in my small circle of friends. I tend to talk about things I find wrong more than things I like. Keep that in mind and don't take it personally, please. 👍

Some of these cars were pretty good, most were mediocre/average, some were really off for me, and some were just plain not good. A few were really good.

I drove some of them, that I thought the problem might be me, for more than 10 laps, just to be sure. Otherwise all cars were driven for 10 laps.

I got better at describing my feelings as I went on, so I went back around again, but the core feeling is still there, so I didn't actually change my impressions. Scores are changed a little since my first impressions, to be more inline with the entire lot of cars. And that's because I wasn't sure what was a 4 was or what a 8 or 9 was... something like that.

Dolhaus
450 Civic - 1:52.434 - Peels, steering goes numb quickly, lacks front grip, brakes are too high so it lacks modulation, doesn't turn in all that great nor come off the brakes good. Abruptly. Not slow though, so pretty decent.
DC: 7.3
400 Civic - 1:57.937 - Fairly stable and easy to drive but it's too safe for me to be fast with confidence. Good for enduros I would guess. Not much to say.
DC: 7.7

Bowtie
450 Civic - 1:52.365 - I found myself waiting for the front end to transition (braking to turn in to power out). Gearing seems wrong as I think my notes say, and I was only at the top of 5th? Wheel goes light very quickly at corner entry, and the rear never steps out or actually seems to come around.
DC: 8.3
400 Civic - 1:57.712 - Good diff settings, comes off the brakes good (which really does matter at Monaco), gearing seemed off and 10/1 damper setting front feels sluggish but it's a safe feeling car.
DC: 8.4

787bcgr
450 GTI - 1:54.238 - Good stuff. Gears are off a little but the car is predictable and consistent. I did 20 laps hoping to go faster but never did. I ended up short shifting to go my fastest. Kind of a plain vanilla car.
DC:8.3
385 GTI - 1:57.860 - Have to wait for the front to react, doesn't rotate, only geared to forth and the front toe I don't understand. Dull. Probably good for long stints in a car. Plain vanilla, again.
DC: 8.3

B Wolf
450 GTI - 1:52.935 - Bad gears, front shock compression at 10 just bugs me. Feels heavy and loses front grip quickly. Slow feeling but not terrible.
DC: 6.5
385 GTI - 1:56.770 - Nice job here. Fast time too. Quite good but again front damper at 10 kills a lot of feeling. Despite front diff setting I was still pushing hard enough to peel inside tire. Had 3x 56.x laps and a lot of low 57.x laps. Good car.
DC: 9.3

MC Hami
450 GTI - 1:53.117 - Really liked it. Trans is great, suspension is great, brakes are great. Though it felt heavy which I will again point the finger at the 10 front damper compression setting. Surprised the diff setting worked as well as it did, but it did. Pretty much found this car to be close to spot on. Good job.
DC: 9.8
385 GTI - 1:55.795 - This car is practically perfect. However something is a touch off for me (and I will investigate later) and then I think it might be a perfect 10 car. Hard to comment on a near perfect car, so not much to say other than well done MCH.
DC: 9.9

CSLACR
450 Odyssey - 1:53.403 - Numerous 53.4 with potential for a possible 52.9, but I couldn't string one together. Terminal understeer got me. Entertaining drive but I kept wondering what a different diff split would result in.
DC: 8.0
421 - Step - 1:55.630 - Pretty good car/van. Transmission is spot on and the handling is pretty sweet. Brakes are fine. Diff settings work good. I did find it to push a little around Massenet (long left sweeper up top). I wrote, "power advantage but not handling" on my notes but I'm not sure what I was referring to when I wrote that.
DC: 8.8

Krenkme
450 Odyssey - 1:57.169 - Terrible understeer that starts at corner entry and continues on half way down the next straight. Gearing was good. Rest was kinda... not good at all. Below par and my lap time suffered. I tried for 20 laps.
DC:4.0 (seems low but I really was like WTF most of the time)
414 - Step - 1:55.882 - No oil change? Car feels great and I noticed the 10 damper setting instantly. Smooth overall but I did beat up on the outside front tire a bit to get going. Transmission is good as are the brakes. Good overall package.
DC: 8.8

Sinof1337
450 Odyssey - 1:53.638 - Suspension and gears were fine, brakes were fine. Pushed a bit and the diffs are off and I again wonder what a center diff setting setting change would do. Seemed to have potential but it wasn't unlocked.
DC: 7.0
421 - Step - 1:56.291 - Beat on the outside front tire to go fast and I'd like more rotation but it was quite good coming off the brakes and had good turn in and exit. But I wish it'd rotate a tad more mid corner. Gearing was weird. 2 was short 3 was long 4 was short 5 was long. Weird shifting.
DC: 7.5

Feydrautha
450 '65 Fiat - 1:59.301 - More of a fun car than a fast car. Steers in good then lets go on the exit. Tight diff hurts. Gears are off a little. Sounded cool, though. 👍
DC: 7.5
450 '08 Fiat - 1:53.719 - Struggled with understeer all the time. Entry, mid corner, and exit. I had to turn the wheel a lot more than usual to get it to stay on line, and be fast-ish. Geared a bit short in two places (of which I didn't note down). Wait, yes I did. Into the super tight left and out of the tunnel. Lot of 53.7 times.
DC:6.7

Fordracer
450 Peugeot - 1:53.335 - Six laps in the 53s, bad turn in and the front lacks grip, so bad exit also. Gearbox is off as it only uses half of 5th and none of 6th gear. Simply, wasn't right for me at all.
DC: 6.6
410 Peugeot - 1:56.994 - Six laps in the 57s. Needs a lot of initial wheel crankage to turn in then the tires scrub then they're hot and that kills exit grip. Odd gearing. Needed longer braking distance.
DC: 6.6

Lionheart
450 CRZ - 1:53.768 - Lot of 54s, then I'd run out of battery and not go any faster in the end no matter what. Good corner entry. Then it'd go light then understeer, but it was manageable. Good overall balance around Massenet. Transmission might be a tad too short.
DC: 7.4
410 CRX - 1:57.565 - After looking at the settings I had high hopes for this one. They didn't exactly pan out. Transmission is not right (I didn't take not as to why...) and the front end washes out. Car is on the too safe side. Pretty close to pretty good, just not there.
DC: 7.3

OdeFinn
450 CRZ - 1:54.138 - Seven laps in the 54s all getting faster then on lap seven the battery died and had nothing to give. Lap seven was my fastest and on the last lap there was no more battery at all as I finished. Car skates around a bit and doesn't transfer any weight or feedback in the wheel, cause it's stiff. That resulted in me being slow. Transmission is spaced good, rest was meh.
DC: 6.3
410 - CRX - 1:56.809 - I got progressively faster as I got more courageous on the brakes and figured out the trail braking feel of this car. Geared weird, barely into 5th. Another skatey and stiff car. Beat on the front outside tire. Diff is up there at 31. Okay-ish again.
DC: 6.7

DaBomm4
450 Focus - 1:53.711 - ... on lap three. Slippery coming in, slippery going out. My times were all over the place. Not consistent at all for me. Transmission was pretty good. I was shifting early and went fastest that way. I just didn't like the front end of the car at all.
DC: 5.7
400 Focus - 1:57.439 - ... on lap ten. Good but the front end is a little stiff so when I got comfy and pushed harder, so did the car, into the walls. Pretty solid tune, though. Transmission could be a bit shorter as I was just getting into 6th gear.
DC: 8.8

Slenderman
450 Focus - 1:53.905 - 5 speed? Lacked front grip and lacked diff control and wouldn't rotate. Thought it was overall, pretty bad for Monaco.
DC: 4.8
400 Focus - 1:57.047 - 5 speed? I did get faster on each lap until I peaked on lap eight. Car is stable. Turns in decent then goes to understeer as I lay into the gas so I have to feather it. It did make for a consistent car though, which is not a bad thing. All laps were .57s except for the first.
DC: 8.3

Otaliema
450 Mini - 1:52.363 - I was expecting more lift off oversteer and more power on understeer but it was neither. Brakes at 9/10 kill me. Too abrupt/no modulation/no strength gained. Transmission is too close in 3/4/5 and then long in 6. Don't get it. Still, not bad though. Pretty fast.
DC: 9.2
425 Mini - 1:54.291 - I said 54.291. Blew my old hatchback times away. Completely. He found the magic combo for this event. Awesome. 200+ hp Mini that is 5 foot wide. But really, it pushed and because you're going so fast coming into corners, brake zones are quite long. I wrote, weird gear and could be softer in the front. Fast.
DC: 9.7

450 Mini - 1:52.726 - on lap nine. Very stable tune, and quite good. I can understand why you get a lot of mentions. Too safe for me to whip out a fast one and I tried, but only got 52.7. Short shifting was noticeably faster for me, up the hill showed it again and again. Good coming off the brakes and on turn in.
DC: 9.4
425 Mini - 1:57.189 - on lap four. All the others were in the 57s also. So, stable, predictable. 5 Speed? Good turn in but then I had to wait, then I could go again. If I stayed smooth as possible and carry speed I was fastest. Probably pretty good for enduro races.
DC: 9.1

Cory
450 Civic - 1:52.048 - I like it! Everything about it.
DC:10
400 Civic - 1:57.583 - I like it, but not as much as the '04. Lacked speed, but handling was pretty good.
DC: 9.8

This was a heck of an experience. Monaco will never be driven the same way.

Thanks for the review. I am very happy with your feedback. You didn't put a DC for my 425 Mini though.. Is that a good or bad sign? :)

Edit: Thank you. Over the moon with the DC and your times are pretty slick too. Smooth is key around Monaco. :)

Figures I missed the last bit of data entry. :crazy:

Got anxious to post! :D
No worries. All sorted now. thanks for the review.

Everytime I did driving where I chucked it into a corner, either the front panel or rear panel would find a armco barrier. This is why most of the testers are faster than me in my own tunes. They are more skilled in the driving department. :)

450 Civic - 1:52.434 - Peels, steering goes numb quickly, lacks front grip, brakes are too high so it lacks modulation, doesn't turn in all that great nor come off the brakes good. Abruptly. Not slow though, so pretty decent.

450 GTI - 1:54.238 - Good stuff. Gears are off a little but the car is predictable and consistent. I did 20 laps hoping to go faster but never did. I ended up short shifting to go my fastest. Kind of a plain vanilla car.

385 GTI - 1:57.860 - Have to wait for the front to react, doesn't rotate, only geared to forth and the front toe I don't understand. Dull. Probably good for long stints in a car. Plain vanilla, again.

Good car.

450 GTI - 1:53.117 - Really liked it. Trans is great, suspension is great, brakes are great. Though it felt heavy which I will again point the finger at the 10 front damper compression setting. 414 - Step - 1:55.882 - No oil change? Car feels great and I noticed the 10 damper setting instantly. Smooth overall but I did beat up on the outside front tire a bit to get going. Transmission is good as are the brakes. Good overall package.

450 CRZ - 1:54.138 - Seven laps in the 54s all getting faster then on lap seven the battery died and had nothing to give. Great to see you had some fun in all the cars.
The short gears on my Cooper S was to make up for the long 2nd to reduce tire spin. It's a long short long set up that is extremely effective to keep speed up and lap times down.

450 '65 Fiat - 1:59.301 - More of a fun car than a fast car. Steers in good then lets go on the exit. Tight diff hurts. Gears are off a little. Sounded cool, though. 👍

Fast.

DC: 9.1

This was a heck of an experience. Monaco will never be driven the same way.
Again, many thanks for your time and effort, as with @Soren Jacquet @fordracer and @brian wolf ,these challenges mean nothing without testers. I appreciate all feedback, and you got some good times out of my tunes. Not my best work unfortunately, come back for more and I will try to give you something more enjoyable :D

A little fun car to drive around the track it´s sounds like there is a V8 engine in it but there aint.
handles very good if you are very carefull with the throttle and the breaks to hard on the throttle the you will die it´s spins you around right a way .. was fun to push hard ..
