Just caught up on the race, that was brilliant!

Was anyone else suprised to learn that Paris Hilton is a) alive, b) doesn't look a complete mess. I'm thinking clone.
To be honest, I thought it was a competition winner. It might as well be given Paris Hilton's irrelevance.

Just saw the race this morning and holy crap! That was the best Formula E race I've seen since I started watching it last season!

So I went back and watched that E-Prix after hearing great things about it. And yes, that was a really good race.

Was actually my first time watching Formula E in a long time, because a big turn off for me in season 1 was the stewards making the race more about themselves with all the penalties, instead of keeping it simple and making the race about who's the fastest. When this continued in the first race of season 2 with Prost's de-facto black flagging, I vowed not to watch any more of that season either.

So here we are at season 3. There was thankfully no bogus penalties to speak of in Mexico (two people got done on a fair ruling), but I'm still sceptical over whether or not I should be watching this series now. Because the FanBoost is still there, they still believe that having 20 cars qualify at the same time is too much despite other championships handling it just fine, and just because one race didn't have bogus penalties doesn't necessarily mean that the problem that tuned me out in the first place is gone for good.

So... should I be watching Formula E this year? I wanted to get some opinions from those who may have watched the season thus far and may be able to tell me if I disagreement with the way the stewards were running things is still a problem...

Fanboost was given to 3 cars to use once. Di Grassi never used it because he was so power critical, Buemi spun off when he used his and I don't know what Abt did with it. The teams have most often not made the driver use Fanboost, as they'd prefer to be more efficient and consistent. The drivers can only use it once in their second car while it is above 50% charge. Fanboost may be stupid, but it doesn't have much of an effect really, so don't miss out on some of the best Single-seater racing around at the moment because of one tiny factor.

Really there should be a cooldown for drivers - if you get it, you have 2 or 3 races where you can't have it again.

We'd all like that, but it just isn't going to happen, so it's worth discussion how to make it better rather than waiting for it to be never be removed

If you read my entire post instead of stopping after seeing the keyword 'Fanboost', you would've seen that the reason why I stopped watching in both season 1 and 2 was the stewards having a power trip, not the Fanboost. To elaborate on that 2015 Bejing E-Prix for example, Prost had a damaged rear wing, but it wasn't actually costing him much time and the car was stable. Yet the stewards still insisted on giving him the meatball flag which took him out of a potential podium finish. This was some serious ******** as we missed a chance to see some inspired driving in difficult circumstances from Prost.

So the question is, are the stewards still on a retarded power trip?

A rear wing that is close to falling off is dangerous no matter what series you are in. It's just that it doesn't have Mich of an effect in FE, so drivers are able to carry on. The wings get broke often, and the teams have to change it. They went a bit nuts in Berlin last year, took a lot of criticism for it and have toned it down since.

That said, the grid is often a lot different to the result of qualifying as drivers keep getting disqualified for failing scrutineering checks, although you can't blame the series for that.

Someone in the last race had their rear wing changed in an early pitstop. I think it was one of the Abt cars.

At least in FE you can change a rear wing and still be somewhat in the race; it's four bolts and a drill. In F1 changing the rear wing takes too long to be able to get back out.

Eventual race winner Di Grassi. He came second in Hong Kong after doing something very similar.

Di Grassi just pulled off one of the most boneheaded moves in a long while, squeezing Da Costa into a wall, and still carries on.

The provisional calendar for the basically-2018 season is out.

Note to the FIA. You have only three possible options for a Rome circuit.

Take your pick. Please.

Hope Santiago and Sao Paulo can conjure up something interesting, and what will the mysterious 'TBA' turn out to be? (Somewhere in London, please? Birmingham Superprix, something like that, I dunno?)

Rome Night was awesome, but I remember looking for the roads on Google Maps once and being disappointed because Polyphony had grossly overstated the width of some of the roads.

A couple of years ago there was a push to get a Grand Prix in the EUR district that ultimately got scrapped. I suspect that's what will make up the circuit.

As awesome as GT tracks would be, they're just not the right kind of circuits Formula E uses and needs. They're too long, and are made up of not enough heavy braking points. It sucks, I know, but that's how it is. It'll be around EUR.

I would argue that that's exactly why Formula E needs them. Maybe not immediately, but certainly as a long-term goal. Perhaps once they get a battery that can do a full race distance. It will push the limits of the technology which is what will develop it.
