Did someone say Sega Rally, oh wait.....wrong game!!! Lancia!!!!!

I was putting together a race of SUVs and Vans at Tsukuba. Just out of curiosity looked up SUV races by Best Motoring. It’s funny we had the Mazda CX-7 and Range Rover concepts and now we have modern Mazda, Toyota and sport SUV, plus people movers, nearly twenty years later.

Another SUV 😒...The SUV is the least car culture vehicle ever conceived. It is the anti-car culture vehicle. The compact SUV is the vehicle of people who need a car, but hate cars.

Like, the CRV had potential with GT Auto's big wings and such, but such a horrible vehicle to play. Same with the others. It's like they were implemented under protest.

I'm eager to see what else this update brings.

My opinion is starting to shift a bit now.

I'm not necessarily against any individual car they've added. But as a collective, I'm not sure it's the right direction - of the 17 cars we've had/are having this year, 9* of them I think it would be fair to call very early-game, Sunday Cup or regional 400PP race content. That to me is definitely an odd direction for a game in its fourth year to be taking.

If I'm PD, I think my car release strategy would be to hold onto completed slower cars until GT8, even if it meant fewer updates. That way they are interesting surprises in the early hours of GT8 rather than monthly PR hits in GT7.

*This doesn't even count the Unimog - that's not an early-game vehicle, it's just a weird one, in the same way that, say, the 1800s cars aren't early-game in GT4.
I think we’re past that. Same goes for wishing they would not release the whole carlist for GT8 and make certain cars only prize cars, like in the good old days…

I was initially thinking that the crossover in the photo was a Daihatsu Rocky / Toyota Raize, which is a car that Subaru uses to revive the Rex name to produce a FWD CVT crossover without offering the Japan-only AWD, but when people pointed out the C-pillar, I've become convinced that it's a Peugeot 2008 afterall.

I like how that car looks, and if this model isn't the e-2008, hopefully we will be able to tune the engine this time round as there's no hybrid or CVT transmission variant available that'll prevent this from happening. Then again, has GT ever featured a FWD EV? I don't remember well.

The Citroën BX makes me nostalgic for a CX as my extended family in Europe used to own one. Loved the pneumatic suspension so much!

I hope the Delta rally car will have its engine featured as a swap for some classic cars soon. It's perfect for the Stratos.

A Citroen BX? That is such a Gran Turismo addition. Now give me a Commodore Kaz!
Looking closely at the headlights, the Citroën BX is probably a Phase 2 (1986-1994).

My bet is Citroën BX 19 GTI 16V '87-92 (also named BX 16 Soupapes).
We can see the air vent grid between the hood and the windshield.

I've been looking at this picture for 20 minutes...
Geez, a Citroen Xantia V6 Activia would be awesome ! At the time, it was faster than a 911 in corners.
Yes please.
This game now has more crossover/EV SUVs than current modern racing machines across Gr.B, Gr.4, Gr.3, Gr.2 and Gr.1

Let that fact sink in for a brief moment to absorb just how insane that genuinely sounds
No it doesn't.
Well about that 2008...

🤷🤔
Tasty.

Its as if its NOT that Motorsport game that clearly satisfies your needs.

But please, keep up with these few nonsensical posts that you literally only make to again complain that GT7 (a game you don't even have I bet) is again not including modern racing cars you want like everyone else is. Such useful insight...

Unfortunately, these SUV can't receive swapped engine due to the hybridation and/or 1 speed gearbox. And the limited power tune and gear ratio don't help it.
So, I don't see the point to add these...

Happy to see the BX, just need the Xantia V6 and it will be perfect lol

I don't understand all this hate in updates. Gran Turismo has always had "everyday cars" which includes SUVs, station wagons, sedans and hot hatches and more. This is nothing new and something that has been going on since the first Gran Turismo and what makes this series special and different from Forza and other racing games. Maybe I'm getting too old to understand this generation of gamers?
GT Sport introduced an entirely new subsection of the fanbase, who lacked a connection to the spirit of the old games. Seeing a return to the foundation that built the classic GT experience - starting from nothing in an absolute junker of a vehicle, only to take it to the top - enrages them for some reason.

I still think modern GT is lacking in that spirit, but believe me it's got nothing to do with the cars they add. If it was up to some of these guys they'd add nothing but ACC bait.

The Integrale is nice but I don‘t understand why Kaz insists on adding these boring crossovers. Nobody wants these cars in a racing game.
Because Gran Turismo isn't a racing game.

Now, you're probably thinking; what the hell is this idiot thinking!? It's clearly a racing game!

But that's a misconception on our part as fans. Gran Turismo is not all about racing, it's about cars. The game doesn't force you to race, it gives you plenty of options for things to do that are not racing...

You can hop in a car and drive around any track without racing. You can go in to Scapes and spend a few hours perfecting your ideal picture of cars (I have the R32, R33 and R34 Skylines as a phone background, created in GT7 Scapes). You can go in to either the car or suit livery editors to create a new style to share. You can work on tunes for specific cars and tracks. You can, if you're so inclined, start the game up and spend hours doing anything but racing.

As fans of cars and racing, we approach this game as if it's all about racing, but Kaz has been clear on many occasions that the game is actually a celebration of car culture, so we get cars added that are not racing cars but are seemingly random everyday cars.

I couldn't agree more. Honestly, GT Sport should have had a sequel leaving the mainline games (ala GT7) as an offline classic Gran Turismo experience. Both are valid gaming choices, but the classic GT career mode would be better with less focus on online modes/features (and vice versa). Maybe not a popular opinion, but it's mine.

You make some good points. On the one hand I agree that the non-racing parts of Gran Turismo are some of the game's best aspects (I mean I probably spent more time making liveries and scapes than actual racing in this game). On the other hand I wonder why Kaz claims the game is about car culture but then focuses so heavily on the E-Sports scene which mostly involves Gr. 3 cars. These events are heavily promoted and obviously important to the game (in PD's opinion) but feature an entirely out of date race car lineup. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Btw I'm still relatively new to GTPlanet but I really appreciate that you can have great discussions here even if you have different opinions about a topic. I tried Reddit before and there were so many manchildren who immediately got emotional because you disagreed with their opinion and that's completely different here.

Just to ads, in GT7, the cars come alive short of actually activating switches and buttons in PSVR2. Even though seeing many cars in real life can't be exactly replicated in PSVR2, by getting close up and sitting inside all the vehicles in the Showrooms, so much appreciation can be experienced.

So many people are hanging on what they feel they can't do to a car or how to use it. Many cars should be looked at and admired and ask questions about why designers, engineers, lawyers, etc went a certain way to achieve the finished product. That's getting lost by many players.

I had high expectations for 1.60… I hoped it'd be big like 1.40 & 1.50… I hope it won't be the last Update though… Because GT Sport stopped its run at 1.60, and went offline with 1.61… I hope GT7 lasts longer. However, the cars are still decent… I know many will be excited for the Delta; the 2K8 is a good car, but I prefer the older model, and I know a lot of people will agree with me that we deserve better than that (the 2K8 from '13 is an amazing car, and one of my former high school's classmates' mother used to drive one. I think they still have it, but I haven't seen the guy in a while, because we graduated, and we're both in university college now.). And as for the BX, this is the one I'm most excited about, since my uncle used to have a '94 ZX Break (he had the rare estate wagon version, which had the design traits of the pre-facelift hatchback from '92. That car is now replaced by '15 Mirage Space Star 1.2; my mom has the '14 Mirage Space Star 1.0, but she used to have a '99 Ford Ka; my uncle replaced the ZX Break at it was 22 years old by that time, my mother replaced the KA, after she crashed it really badly in '14), so any French car from 1981-1999 is genuinely awesome in my personal opinion. So yeah, BX is my favourite, and 2K8 is second, and while I got nothing against the Delta Rally Cross, I already have the regular road version of the Delta.

Seriously. The 2008 instead of the 208? I will never understand this choice.
We already got the 208 from '14. We should've gotten the 2008 from '14 instead.

If you don't love a Citroen BX you must be dead inside. :D
My uncle used to have a '94 ZX Break (he had the rare estate wagon version, which had the design traits of the pre-facelift hatchback from '92), but he sold it in '16, as it was 22 years old at the time, and replaced it with a '15 Mirage Space Star <1.2>, which in my opinion is an awful car in general. My mother has a '14 Mirage Space Star <1.0>, but she used to have a '99 Ford Ka, which sadly ended up badly wrecked in a car crash in the summer of '14. So yeah, the BX is the one I'm most excited about, I love it more than the 2008, and especially the Delta Rally.

Unfortunately, these SUV can't receive swapped engine due to the hybridation and/or 1 speed gearbox. And the limited power tune and gear ratio don't help it.

The CR-V and the CH-R were hybrids, the CX-30 wasn't… and if the 2008 also has a Direct Drive Gearbox like both the Prius and the Aqua, it'll be an even bigger disappointment. I'd have preferred if we got the Mirage Space Star instead, even though I genuinely despise this exact car because of personal reasons. As for the BX, I'm genuinely excited for it, as my uncle used to own a '94 ZX Break (it was the rare estate wagon version with design traits from the pre-facelift hatchback from '92), but ended up selling it in '16, as it was 22 years old at the time. Both he and my mother now own a Mirage Space Star (my mom has the '14 model with 1.0 I3; my uncle has the '15 model with 1.2 I3), but my mom used to have a '99 Ford Ka, which she sadly ended up crashing and wrecking really badly back in '14. So yeah, the BX is the one I'm most excited about, followed by the 2008. The Delta is nice, but I already have the Road version of the car, so I won't get the Rally one.

The BX is nostalgic for me as well, since my uncle used to own a '94 ZX Break (he had the rare estate wagon version, which shared the design traits of the pre-facelift hatchback from '92), but he sold it in '16, as the ZX was 22 at that time, and now drives a '15 Mirage Space Star with 1.2 I3… My mother drives the '14 Mirage Space Star with 1.0 I3, but she used to have a '99 Ford Ka… which she sadly ended up crashing back in '14, severely wrecking the Ka, so she replaced it with the "ugliest Mitsubishi car in the world in my opinion"… So yeah, I'm most excited about the BX!

If it was the Rocky/Raize/Rex/Ativa, then I would be happy to have a car where I can vent my frustrations towards its drivers IRL.

Now the BX, frankly I don't have a connection to it. But apparently some units of the model were assembled in Malaysia* back when it was new. And considering how the brand performed here then and now, it would be a treat to see one in person. Granted, if all around haven't rusted away entirely.

(*Now it made more sense when the Proton Tiara, a rebadged Citroën AX was built at the same plant. It never stood a chance compared to the Mira-related Perodua Kancil. Nor did it ever stood a chance in the compact market compared to Perodua in general!)

I've been to Malaysia long ago, I was so surprised to see AXs in the streets 😁

But do you remember old gran turismo games ? You started with slow road cars but majority of further play you spend in fast racing car. People created this false narration that gt is all about normal slow cars that was never a case.

exactly! Currently it feels like kaz only cares abt city/ in other words slow cars. And trust me i really love seeing everyday cars in racing games. But its also nice to have maybe some M5s, maybe the latest M4, just examples. Cars that are modern engineering masterpieces. Thats also GT. And 99% its not like they can license them. Only a few cars have exclusivity deals right now. Recently we got an 812, Vantage, Ioqnic 5, Mission x and 992. We need a bit more of that, to balance things. And in other note: MORE EVENTS. Most of these city cars and some hypercars even are useless.
