It's sad to see the list of little improvements that PD could implement in custom races increasing once again.

We are so so close to the perfect sand box game.

Anyone tried the boost settings, tyres and rubber banding yet?
You mean in custom race ?
I tried without boost and like before the update Sophy is slower as the race progresses. So i guess nothing changed.
Later i will try with low boost.

Tyre bug is still there, AI throttle still at 97%. Haven’t checked boost tonight, will do tomorrow if anybody else hasn’t tested themselves.

I did notice that the vibration when you crash into another car on PS5 feels more detailed and direct almost, like it’s more of a buzz rumble than a classic DualShock rumble. I can’t remember exactly what it felt like before, but it feels like it’s different now. I like it.

Like before this update, they've done something. Reggie is actually driving competitively. Seriously. I'm on it and other than the Camaros with their horrible first gear take offs, I was pushing to try and catch the front of the field. The same with my race at CGV with all six of my Hakosukas and classic Trans-Am grid. Good stuff!

I'm definitely going to rebuild the NZ V8 Tourers cars. All I could think about while racing was the V8 Supercars races at Abu Dhabi. Fantastic couple circuits in the game. Now, let's get Albert Park in! ;)

Did some DLC races, then ran some of my Custom grids to see if there was Sophy improvements. In my BOP’d group 3 race (with a group 2 rabbit), the racing was much closer across the board. Sophy seemed a tad less dive-bomby as well.

Unrelated, but of note… I really like the FFB changes they made. I’m running an OG DD1, and the wheel feels like it loads up much better with even sharper hits and more nuance. I like it!

Ran a quick check to see if Sophy 2.1 was indeed still being used in custom races. And the AI cars still swing over to the right going under the tunnel at Suzuka. In 3.0 they don't. I don't want to complain, but sometimes (a lot actually) I wonder what PD is thinking.

I wonder if there’s slight scripting in the 3.0 races, just like in a lot of the Sophy quick races of past. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to have two different versions of Sophy, unless 3.0 Sophy just means it can drive in wet weather.

Speaking of which, is rain enabled in Sophy custom races?

Nope. Rain isn't enabled in Sophy custom races. I'm really hoping that PD brings Sophy 3.0 over to Custom Races, since I do agree that it'd be really odd to have two different versions of Sophy in the game.

I don't think we still know the difference between Sophy 2.1 and Sophy 3.0 aside from the vague statement from PD claiming that it'll allow for "more realistic tail-to-nose racing action". My best guess is that 3.0 is able to come up with better tyre/fuel strategies compared to 2.1 along with the addition of driving on damp/wet conditions.

FYI, in case people missed it, the F3500 A and F3500 B can swap engines with each other and they can both get the Renault v10 from the Espace.

So all cars can have the 3500A V12
The Renault V10
and the 3500B V8

F1 races will be much better
Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long until sophy can use the f3500b and the two new circuits

The car drives differently no? Meaning Sophy would need to be trained for that or else they might struggle.
I haven't noticed anything different other than the drivetrain, which is no different than swapping a transmission or adjusting the power/weight.

Has the list of Sophy enabled cars changed at all? I have to check to see if the new Power Pack Skyline is compatible with custom races. If not, I hope they add that soon.

Ah ok, I thought they were different generations of car. And true, if it can handle modified cars then you would think it would be able to handle this.

Maybe different torque delivery? Not sure if Sophy can drive engine-swapped cars. If so then it is a strange omission indeed.

I feel Reggie doing real good. I was at YM and dozing off a bit(nearly midnight) I was leading the pack of Hakosukas and I slipped up. One car passed and I figured I’d hurry and get the spot back. Couldn’t catch it. Then, I ran wide at one of the right handers. The rest of the Hakosukas passed me and I couldn’t catch up to those!

I haven’t touched my SOPHY customer races yet, but if Reggie programming is like what I’ve seen from the first races I posted of this update, I’m going to think there are some improvements to 2.1.

Well, in other news. Anyone looking to replicate new Super N2 class cars, Hot Version just released their latest N2 meeting at Fuji. Showing horsepower specs.

I did a quick test to see if my BoP was still relevant after the update at Le Mans with Sophy.
It is now two-tenth of a second faster than before, for what it's worth..

I don't think a change in the physics would do so little, so may be a minor change in Sophy's attitude somewhere in a corner or in the straights.

Same old Reggie, slow and unpredictable.
Okay.

I had one instance at YM with one of the Mustangs parking it on one of the tight corners in a video I posted. After that took me a minute to catch it and I didn’t blow by it as I was passing.
It’s definitely not on par with SOPHY, but so far, I’m having better races. Even though I don’t do Reggie races on the regular.

Tried a GR4 race at Watkins with Reggie and they still brake check mid turns.

Just for more anecdotal evidence about Reggie, I did a custom Super Formula race at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and they were not very quick. They just braked too early. This is on Professional difficulty with boost on weak.

Maybe it's just this track and car combo that isn't great for them, or maybe their pathing struggles on this track, and in this car. Maybe more than normal, I'm not sure. The only real issue I found was braking too early, other than that they were okay.

Truth be told I also didn't pass them because I was trying to be clean and I don't think I was driving very well. I was holding the brake too much, but I didn't brake as late as normal when close to them because I didn't want to hit them.

EDIT - CAN CONFIRM the new DLC cars can be used in Sophy custom races. I just did it with the GT tuned Skyline
Sad trombone - It's only a bug. You can't actually add the new cars to Sophy races. I had the GP tuned skyline, and I had sold a few cars from this Sophy file, so the game replaced the missing cars with the GP tuned Skyline.

Later, when I tried to reload this save file, it told me that "it could not be driven on this circuit"...even though, as you can see from the end of race rankings, it works just fine. 🤔

Obviously the work, so why hold them back?

Custom races haven’t been touched in any way as far as I can see…
No new Sophy tracks.
New power pack cars cant be used.
No new usable pre existing cars.
Previously incompatible cars…still incompatible.

Disappointing but what we do know is…Sophy in its new form (3.0, whatever that actually means), CAN now use grid starts, Watkins Glen (both layouts), Daytona (both layouts), Kyoto (Yamagiwa), Fuji, Nurburgring GP.

I’ve only done 19 races from the Power Pack, there’s no evidence so far Sophy can change tires, weather or no weather.
During ‘A celebration of Sarthe’, there is rain but Sophy doesn’t change from RH to IM or W, at least not so far for me.
In the Hokosuka ‘70 race everyone’s on Sports Soft, but as we know sophy can drive in tires that come with the car at purchase.

I’m guessing we will be drip fed these changes over time, very disappointing for sure, but we do know more than before the DLC I think.

As for Sophy 2.1 within custom races being better….i think there could be something in that.
I’ve been doing the same championship (Excel), for about 3 months now, (30 40min races, season 6 now).
I have a suspicion Sophy is very slightly faster, feels as if they’ve been weight reduced by 15/20kg, not huge but something feels different.
I’m not 100% if I’m imagining things though but I put my BHP up one notch with 5kg on my R33 to stay middle of the pack.

Anyway, that’s what I know so far, very disappointed for us all but I have hope!

Fingers crossed for Dayton n Watkins Glen especially!!!
