I agree with that the GT series was made to fix a used car up but at the same time I think that it is a good way to keep the franchise going because once forza horizon comes out then GT will be in the gutter....

I'm looking at Horizon now and it doesnt look like a true free roam that everyone wants. It doesnt have a sandbox city. It looks like a bunch of point to point roads with civilian traffic on it. Gran Turismo's course editor can do that in the future with GT6 if it wanted to do so. Point to point was originally in the editor before they axed it.

Yes, voted yes and forever yes.

Who never had the dream to drive from East to North City and then Home on GT2 map?

Or drive through the resorts in GT4 map (the best GT4 career mode menu EVER)

Imagine that in the game, GT-city like some of us been talking about, and you have the option to drive (or not) to the garage, GT-Auto and everything else.

When you put it that way, that's an awful lot of effort to expend on something most people will stop bothering to do after a few hours (if other games that did the same are any indication).

100% true Toronado, NFSU2 and other games proven how it get's repetitive after some time. For most users. But it would be cool to have it, if the whole city was a beautiful scenery to cruise/drive in...

I votet no. PD should concentrate on GT6 and don't waste time on another game with free roam or free roam in GT6.

If they can manage to get another ecperienced developer team i would like to see free roam.

Free roam is obviously a great addition to have for the GT franchise. Though with free roam, there needs to be a big enough map and tons and tons of users on one map to make it truly enjoyable. Half-botched attempts at it would just make it worse than not having one.

If the map is too small, users would feel limited and restricted. If there's not enough random users driving around the place, free roam would feel lifeless. Just imagine you have this big map and there's only you and 3 friends in it along with some AI cars. Not exactly fun.

In the end, it's the random factor and large communities that makes or breaks a free roam experience. Just think of 100 users driving around on their way to the circuits for races, tuning, paint shop, dealerships etc. You drive down the roads and you see different car meets, photo shoots, random cop robber chases, ricers with racing titanium exhausts, drifters, sleepers, and normal law-abiding citizens on the roads. Then you stop at the red light and you see a rival car next to you. The light goes green, and the two of you do a drag race on the spot. Imagine that.

The randomness and chaos is what makes free roam a refreshing experience away from the circuit. Though it's probably impossible right now to implement such a system with our current hardware limitation. Until then, I hope PD doesn't implement a half crummy free roam system.

It would be extremely fun and I would love to have that gamplay mode.

But honestly and realistically thinking, I had to vote NO. Gran Turismo is still not ready for such a huge feature.

^ This basically.

No - because in every open-world game I've ever played, the majority of roads are boring (like real life - funny that!), so you end up wasting time just driving to somewhere interesting.

Give us more real racing circuits, and I'd definitely want some point-to-point road/rally courses (similar in concept to the original Need For Speed, but based on real roads - Stelvio, Col de Turini etc) but nothing more. Spend the rest of the development on important stuff, like more in-depth tuning options, better tyre physics, day/night/weather on all courses.

We won't see any of this in GT5 anyway.

1st. All Premium (if possible)
2nd. Fix Collision and Crash
3rd. Better Car Customization
4th. Free Roam
5th. Anything

thats priority that PD should have....
so i vote yes...

No, I am strongly opposed to PD wasting time on this idea.

Make GT5 a proper racing game first, with real qualifying, real AI racing, proper number of laps...

No more of this last place to first place nonsense against zombie AI drivers. This is a racing game, yet there is no such thing as earning pole position, even when you have countless real world racecars?

That is completely out of place and needs to be corrected first. I suspect everyone would be bored of free roam within a month anyway.

Voted No.

It wouldn't add anything for me, a lot of the things people are requesting are all ready in games (NFS Series/TDU) etc and in all honesty there crap.

If PD opened it up I'm pretty sure people would start treating it like burn out, if you were just casually driving to an event you would come across some idiots crashing into you. Why waste the time?

We need more tracks and maybe some real life stretches of road which could be used in photo mode.

Point to point racing should be restricted to WRC events only imo, the moment GT tries to turn into NFS the series will die.

Voted no. Don't not want this. Perhaps PD could make a separate free roam game, gt horizon if you like  I guess a free roam map could be introduced into gt5 as dlc a bit like route x but I for one wouldn't buy it and I would much rather PD spent their precious time on improving the game in other ways.

Midnight club LA + GT 5 physics = Freakin' awesome.

I'm disturbed by the general lack of imagination being shown here.

Also, has no-one considered the implications for online play?
Combine Special Stage City with endless, improved point-to-point course generator tracks and it might be interesting. Failing that, the beauty of games is that you can make every road interesting.

None of this has to detract from other aspects, either. This all-or-nothing mentality is really starting to grate.

Interesting, because I liked the feature in Test Drive Unlimited, but I don't know how big and detailed the 'world' would have to be to satisfy everyone, and if the PS3 can handle it...TDU for PS2 was fun to explore, but all of Hawaii's natural beauty was whittled down to 5-6 generic scenes/backgrounds...

Then there is the debate over which real place to model the world after, if any (SoCal? Japan? Paris?) no matter what is chosen, someone will complain...

the one i really like is the map of NFS Hot Pursuit (2010)

it has desert, canyon, green mountain, woods, lake, beach etc....

the one it lack only rural area....

These kinds of questions are typically quite useless. The only valid reason to say no to a new feature or new content is if you think it will take time out of something more important. And none of us have any idea how much time a new feature will take out of other development. Whether people say yes or no depends entirely on their guesses of the time required to do so.

Now of course some people might really look forward to a free roam and others might not care at all. That would of course influence the results as well. But really, that's the information you want to know, so why not simply ask how interested people are in free roam, rather than asking if they think it's a good idea based on their limited knowledge of the time needed for production of certain features?

I'm all for free roam just like I'm all for pretty much every other feature that could possibly be added. But I'm not so interested in it like I am for other features. On a scale of 1-10 for how important I think it is, it's maybe a 3. But I would like to see it eventually. I'm sure as the game progresses my interest in free roam will gradually rise.

You never played TDU did you?

I played the second one, briefly. That game had bigger problems than its road layout, though - they succeeded in making the driving of the cars themselves uninteresting, which probably doesn't help when the roads are sometimes a bit boring, too. I don't think GT has that issue, the cars are genuinely involving and distinct for the most part.

And I'm really not suggesting that PD make an open world anything like that. At all. Remember: "imagination".

Yes. I would love an open city (Tokyo) to cruise around in. Would be awesome for open lobbys!

TDU2 have great scenarios, some really beautiful places but what you said is true, most of time the cars are boring to drive. :indiff:

I'm going to say no. However, I think there would be interest in a spin off version of Gran Turismo that could be called GT World, that specifically is made as a free roam of famous cities and/or roads. Allow players to import from their GT5 garage, and go cruising. And, with the ability to move around the car in photo mode, have a photo option in the pause menu to allow you to exit your car and move around the car and area to take pictures. With GT's attention to detail and scenery, this could be a great way for us to explore real places in a virtual GT World. Just my 2 cents.

If Kaz revealed this at E3 2013. I would yell "Shut up and take my money!"

So would I; I couldn't begin to imagine how great an open world with Gran Turismo physics would be

No. There are more important things that PD could do instead of free roam mode.
In my opinion, Sony could delegate some other team to create something that is similar to a "Need for speed underground", based on the GT franchise, giving the team responsible the work done by poliphony on cars (like turn 10 for forza horizon, but with the same gt physics and crazy customizations), then it would be nice.

How is it point to point? Go to 3:23 in the vid, there is a crossroad, the player could've gone any direction.

Yes, only if there's a city.

Forza Horizon is a Open World racer with 3-4 cities. It also has canyons, and other areas. Day and Night cycle and so on.

It is not point 2 point. Its free roam.

I would like to see a Forza Horizon competition from a different experienced developer team in cooperation with PD.

But PD should focus on other things. The real GT game like Turn10 does with Forza.

Do you know many miles or km of road the world has in total? i am really curious about it. And how big is the biggest city?

HOOOLD on. Is there any city driving gameplay for Forza Horizon? I haven't seen any.

I'm not saying you're lying, but I'd like to see visuals of the cities.

I'm pretty sure the cities were only mentioned and there isn't any specific information about the size of anything.

I've seen one screenshot from a car that seemed to be in an invironment with buildings, don't know how much that'll count, :dopey:

oh, ok, I don't know I'm just curious, not really seeking info about that game elsewhere. But it surprises me there shouldn't be more information. It's about to be released in 1,5 month right? I would laugh if it wasn't finished and is to be delayed.
