How would you recommend I tune the AMG for this race? I know squat about tuning and every time I mess with something it ends up feeling worse. Not sure if that's psych placebo either... 😕
If you find a tune, would you be so kind as to pass it along to a fellow AMG jockey, even if only a low B lobby flunkie?

It's been a while since we've had any races in GTWS with tuning options, but I remember this being a real challenge. As I drive more laps, I naturally get faster. It gets hard to tell what improvements come from tuning and which come from practice.

The solution, I'd guess, is collecting lots and lots of data and applying statistical techniques to figure out an optimal setup. With only a couple days to prepare, though, who has time for that?
Seriously. THis is why I dislike tuning races. Who has the time/capacity to test pseudo-infinate settings? A whopping three days and a major holiday between rounds... I'll be happy enough to know how many laps to do on the required tires.

Ditto. I wish I was consistent enough lap after lap to know if changing something in the tuning was helping or hurting. If I do this race I'll be using the original tune.

Then there's the added complications, if the tuning 'is' faster, then your tyres are wearing quicker. I think Moose just popped in a European lobby (1hr ago) but didn't take the start.

Q6, decided to try alternate strategy and go on Hards as per Tidgeny, I feel I pitted a lap too early after lap 4 as I was struggling to hang on with tyres at the end, but was getting fed up of been knocked around. Clear air definitely the way to go. After pit stops played out I was 3rd, then leader quit.

2nd lobby, wanted to try same tactic, but host reset to let some others in, so started on Mediums as I though we were redoing quali.

Q6, Got trounced in race down straights (wasn't aware my rig had a handbrake that's stuck on!) finished 5th, felt dejected until I realised all 4 in front were A+ and I was keeping up with 4th (and put some manners on 'em a few times!)

At least I've learnt this evening I'm doing 10mph more with slipstream into turn1 and usual brakepoint is no good. I managed to miss all but one🫣. They returned the favour, nuged me wide same place 10laps later... then they span and quit.

I've managed to get a light round of testing done in three cars:
  1. Ford GT Race Car '18
  2. Subaru BRZ GT300 '21
  3. Subaru WRX Gr.3
I decided to throw the WRX into the mix because the BRZ struggles on the straights, and this track has lots of them. I figured the WRX might do a little better.

For each of the cars, I did a 14-lap test on RM and an 8-lap one on RH. The front right tire died on the final lap for all three of them. Weather was afternoon S03. I just used the default settings and BB 0.

Used the lap times from my tests, I was able to simulate all the strategies from 7RM-8RH to 14RM-1RH. These are the three fastest strategies for each of the cars:

So it turns out the WRX is a fair bit faster than the BRZ, at least in clean air, so I'll give that car a try on Saturday.

If it is at all helpful for reference, just after running my tests, I ran a few laps in Free Practice with the Ford and WRX. My best time in the Ford was 1:27.8 and the WRX was a 1:27.9.
I think Moose just popped in a European lobby (1hr ago) but didn't take the start.
I don't think that was me. I was looking at the lobby list around then, but I didn't join any. At least, I don't think I did.

I just remembered after not participating on that previous Gr.4 race, I would not be able to participate on Rd.6 after all because it clashes with a concert that was ordered months in advance. So that's basically it for my run this exhibition season. Although, if another one (or a full season) arrive, I'd stick with the Jaguar as it felt like an all rounder all things considered.

I did a couple of Lobbies yesterday evening and it was a nice experience because I met driver of A+ class.
Even if I am driving with AT, I am not really far from them.

I think to have seen @tmtk joining a lobby where I was but I didn't see him during the race.
After a while I discovered that the lobby was set with fuel at 7x and tires at 2x (the opposite of needed), and I think that @tmtk understood immediately the mistake and left.

Strategy is critical because when there is a fight in front of you the lap time can easily go at 1:31 / 1:33.

I can qualify with 1:29.xx so most probably at middle/end of the group so in the worst part.
I am thinking if to be really extreme in the strategy with only 2 laps on Hard and then 13 laps of Medium.
Renault is quite a good tires saver, but the last 2-3 laps will be very hard to fight in any case.

I've done a race with AI yesterday. For my AMG 10 laps is absolute max for RM tires so will go 10 RM - 5 RH or vice versa, dependable on a position after qualifiers. So far my best lap time is 1:28:5-ish. While checking leaderboards seems AMG is not doing great on this track - best guy is in a middle of first 100 with 1:26:something.
If anyone has some proven tunes for AMG please share ofc:)

Anyone tried the reverse strat? (Ex: 5RH 10RM)
Think it could work is we are stuck in traffic at the start…

Edit: I just saw that skidude88 tried it
thanks

Thanks, such similar tenses on RM and RH provide good undercut options if you run into someone. I've been wanting to undercut someone, but it never works out. I'm still stuck in my low DR C, although I should probably be on the borderline between high DR C and low DR B, because I regularly go 1-2 P without much effort.

Since there aren't any tunes on DG-Edge for either of my cars, I decided to try naively applying a popular Porsche tune to the Ford GT Race Car '18 in Free Practice. I drove a dozen laps, or so. I didn't notice much of a difference in how the car drove. I couldn't beat my best time. I switched back to the default tuning and tried again. I beat my best time within a few laps.

I think I'll just stick to the default tuning for both cars tomorrow.

Good luck to everybody racing!

I almost certainly will. I like to get on the quicker tyres later in the race unless I qualify near the top. It's very unlikely I will here though. Been practicing a bit more and generally trundling around 1:31.8 although I randomly pulled a couple of 1:31.0 laps out and have no clue what I did differently then 🥲

Seems there's a GT-R tune on there, thanks for bringing it up. I get the feeling I'm not really fast enough anymore to notice a substantial difference even between stock and a hypothetical best tune possible, so I don't know how much difference any of this might make during the race.

I managed a mid 1m26 in free practice after tuning out some of the understeer in the McLaren. Have yet to try it with tyre wear on, or on hards, so will see if my settings are usable in the race or not before sharing them lol

Same, tried tuning from the page you posted for 991....I notice a difference, couldn't tell you what. Posting pretty much identical times.

Did a tyre wear test too, 10laps each setting. Naff all difference.

I'll save myself the panic of plugging in the settings, not easy in vr!

I was pretty grim yesterday, my pace was dismal.
A friend provided me with some setting solution for the Supra and it helped with some of the ailments that been bothering me, the pace is improved, also my confidence, but I'm afraid it's still not the track to race with AT and buttons for everything else, at least not in high B lobbies. So I'll just try to limit the damages tomorrow.

Hards into mediums are the only way to go for me.

Good luck tomorrow everyone!

Jumped into the very first slot in Australia.

Qualified 9th, finished 7th.

Went 5H 10M

Was 6th heading into the final hairpin on lap 15, but got a bit loose trying to defend and fell back to 8th, but 7th had a .5s penalty so that moved me up.

Finished up earning 65 points which I'm happy with so not going again.

Now enjoying a beer whilst recording the reply to upload to YouTube.

Just qualified 6th with a 1:38.4, going for the hards first.

Finished 6th. Got punted off first lap, down to 11th, pitted lap 5 for mediums, they lasted but it wasn't pretty. Was 8th after all the stops and there was a group of 4 squabbling so knew it would only be a matter of time before they committed seppuku, they duly obliged and was up to 6th.

One of them came back at me and tried to push wide at turn 1 despite leaving space for his dumb divebomb, but he lost traction and span off and I didn't shed any tears over it. 5th and 4th finished 2 seconds ahead which was a shame as I had a dreadful outlap with no grip for some reason (cold mediums?) Which probably cost me overall.

Final results

Spa P12
Atlanta P2
Interlagos P1 (Low B/High C lobby)
Red Bull P5 (Graduate to B fully)
Blue Moon P8
Deep Forest P8

Decent way to end the season. C/S GT3, Euro slot 1.

Didn’t change any settings, don’t know what I’m doing and don't agree with just downloading someone else’s set up (learn to do it yourself).

Qualified P2 in the Beetle. Knew there’d be some shenanigans & time loss on the first few laps so decided to start on the hards. Lost a place at turn 1. P1 got put in the wall by P3 (5sec penalty) so they were gone. Managed to hold 2nd/3rd through the first 3 laps, then bailed to the pits for some mediums and clear air.

Worked my way back through the field as people pitted and/or crashed. One entanglement at the hairpin earned me a 2 sec penalty. The 4 sec time loss on the next lap cost me a chance to fight for a win or podium, though I had no grip the last 2 laps so probably would’ve lost out anyway. Ended up 5th, about 6 secs off the lead.

Not sure if I’ll do any more of these seasons next year, but I finally got my win so I’m content.

Good(ish) and my bad.

Q5, Figured I'd only get out dragged everywhere so went for 5H, 10M

Kept up for a bit and wasn't fighting anyone who wanted to get past. Dropped 2 spots came out of stop 12th

Was looking forward to racing another 991 that come out of pits 'Silberfuchs'...but I locked up into T1 and spun them off, I waited but didn't look like they were gonna rejoined. I finished 5th..

If you're out there Silberfuchs...REALLY SORRY!😞

GT2 EMEA 1st Slot mostly A lobby with one random A+ driver which felt a bit cruel

Was looking forward to the race as in the lobbies I'd done I'd had quite good pace thanks to the Tidgney lap guide and dg-edge settings for the Porsche (just made the car a bit more stable).

Q6 with 1.27.875 but couldn't get a completely clean lap in. Turns out a lot of people will really slow down for the final hairpin on their outlap with some tyre warming wriggling which bunched everyone together again after spacing out nicely.

Started on H as thought I wouldn't lose too much in traffic, but accidentally dive bombed an NSX on the final hairpin of T1 giving my a completely fair 5s penalty. Pitted on lap 7 for M, gained a few places and finished 8th for 124 points.

Thought I could do better so went again Q7 - race was quite a disaster for me, picked up a 0.5 second on the 1st lap, dropping me 5 places and continued picking up stupid penalties so ended up 10th for 101 points (did a 7 RH - 8 RM).

Felt a bit exhausted after that so wasn't sure I wanted to go again but ended up going for it. Got some clean qualifying laps and put in a 1.27.710 for Q7. For all 3 races the top 10 were very close on times, normally only a few hundredths between each position. Started on RH again and was going well but a Lambo with a Simpsons livery was an absolute menace. Divebombed the hairpin on L1 and left me no space on the exit. I conceded the place as just didn't want to lose time to a fight.

They then caught up to the next car (a Peugeot who I knew was quick from previous races) , nudged them off and took their place. This slowed down the Peugeot and I overtook them but gave the position back once they caught up again. Carried on to pit on L7 for M, keeping a decent pace, then saw the Lambo had pitted for their H tyres ahead and worryingly came out just ahead of me. They defended quite erratically but managed to get around the outside of them in T1 and then put some distance in so they couldn't dive bomb at the hairpin.

A crash ahead gave me 5th place and was breathing 4th's exhaust pipes for the final lap as they were on H but couldn't make it past without doing something stupid. Took home 146 points which I was very happy with and glad the season ended on a high note!

So the tuning in this race made little difference to my pace all I did is adjust the intial torque on the LEXUS and the car did pretty well overall.

My first race at 5pm slot Uk time, was a complete cluster, a spanish driver destroyed and bashed into me twice over 2 corners during this race and then has the audacity then to call me toxic and play the victim card, what an immature dirtbag! I then finished that god aweful race, came 12th or 13th or sumthing. Because of the all the pushing and shoving by other drivers in that race, my DR & SR tanked me down to C - A driver rating, from a much higher B - S rank.

The next race was the one after at 6pm slot time, this was an overall better race/lobby despite having bumpy pushing and shoving and childish antics all over, My strategy was bit wishy washy, I did 8laps on RM then the remainder on RH tyres, managed to wash thru the chaos and secure a 4th place overall and netted sum good points, I may not run again as I dont have the energy to do so but not so bad today regardless.

Just finished mine (GT2 DR-B) Qualified 4th in the 458 with a 1:28.3, I started on mediums, leader spun on lap 2. The 3 of us ran away from the group. I couldn’t cleanly get past 2nd till after the pit on lap 9. He got a .5 penalty and I held onto second for the rest of the race, slowly pulling away for 3rd and catching the leader but ran outa laps. Reasonably clean from what is saw, I’ll take it.

Ps: didn’t touch tuning at all.

Oh! And it was my first race without braking zones on. So that’s a win in itself :)

Ok just finished my race and I got to say it was chaotic…
Only drB driver in a drA field so door 16
Few people including my self had SR S (around 7) the other had SR A and, god, they should have been SR B/C.
Qualified p8 so was kind of proud of my self but still decided to start on the RH.
Hit the barrier at turn 4-5 and the rest of the field got in rear end so by the end of lap 1 I was dead last.
Everyone was being their own Verstapen (does who know, knows).
Could find a way to pass cleanly so decided to pit end of lap 5 for RM and hope for clean air. It kind of worked because the end of all the pitstop I was p9 with the guy in p8 right in front of me. We were fighting for a while I got ahead and later he overtook me under a yellow and got no penalty…
Then the two drivers in 10 and 11 caught up cause I was trying to get a pass done and somehow they overtook me and they then lagged (stopped on track) right before the back straight and hit one of them and I got a 2sec penalty. From then my race was pretty much done and I finished in p11.
Got 95 points since it was a high rated lobby but not sure if I retried the racing will be better and if I could get more points so that will have to do it..
Tomorrow I will post my final results for the overall season.

Messed up qualifying and ended up 10th on the grid. Did ok in the race, finishing 7th for 99 points (19 more than for winning at Blue Moon!) but the icing on the cake was fastest lap. Never done that well at Deep Forest before so that was a nice surprise. (Ferrari, no tuning).
