I'm in 2nd place with a 1'21.893 (UK) after 30mins. A very high 1'20 is my max target, but as yet, I have no idea where that time will come from. I can clearly see a 1'21.5 though.

Nice
does a steering wheel give people an advantage?

WOW... I'm signed up - This feels really real right now - in a really scary way !...

It's hard for me to tell without comparing both, but a wheel gives you finer control over throttle, brakes and steering modulation. The controller can be twitchy when you're steering and a bit blunt for fine throttle control.

There are a few spots on the circuit I'd love the finer control of a wheel and pedals - the pedals would be good virtually everywhere because on N1 tyres there's so little traction, and the wheel would be handy for me in that fast left hander two corners after the tunnel, where the car begins to slide on the power and a number of times it's began to pendulum from over correcting such a small slide.

Plus, some people can gain a good advantage on the G25 with gear-shift speeds, you can often hear it on top time-trial times.

Using SixAxis

I have watched & studied aswell as ran against. It is as if I don't get very good exit speeds out of corners. I seem to lose time everytime at the bottom of the hill after the hairpins. (Turn 4)

I have noticed that aswell the top times seem to have more speed at the bottom the of hairpins.

Nice, that's over a second quicker than i could muster.

Using the H-box or paddle shifters? (If you don't mind me asking) :sly:

Yeah, I had to re-register as well, the event just disappeared. When I got the trial back, mine and everyones time was gone. I just put the same time in so no bother.

I have to sign up to GT Academy via this link both times and enter my PSN password, email ID and enable cookies of course, then the register page shows up. The Academy site doesn't work for me and I've tried different browsers etc.

Ah ok, I'd read here before that powershifting with the h-box gains you time over the lap, wasn't sure how many people were actually doing that. I'm struggling to find any more time over the lap, though that may be down to lack of practice on N1s.

I've no idea. I've always considered them the same. I'll have to look into this some more. Interesting. 💡

What is so special about the fourth hairpin?

I have loaded GTP_Alex, as my ghost and I match him turn for turn all the way to the fourth hairpin and every time he seems to get better traction out of the bend. The only difference between us is he has his traction control set at six, which If I run with that I struggle to get the car to move.

Well you knocked me of 2nd place sphinx. I haven't got the time to try and answer back tonight (not that I can keep up with you mind). Still the race is on eh 👍

I noticed that manual shifting with the EVO X and IX is faster than paddle shifting, but not seen any other cars that really benefit yet. You can raise the the revs to match the gear change and get a tiny bit more, but for Eiger it doesn't seem to make any difference to me. I think it can help on all those Suzuka straights.

As long as we all remain in the top 20 then all is good. 👍 I don't think there is a prize for the fastest lap so I won't be busting a gut to get it. Perhaps there is a prize? :)

Well I am sub 1:22 now so its enough for me for today, I was supposed to be getting ready for a party :scared:

While I have always considered time trails fairly boring compared to races, I am starting to find it fairly addicting again, just like getting the 80 golds in GT4. :)

Using the H box is a BIG advantage when you manage it especially with cars like that with a big hole when you pass a speed...
AT Gt5.net we are doing a lot of hotlapping race and there is at least 0.200 to 0.300 difference in that kind of race.

In some cases each speed change can give you between 0.050 to 0.100... this is not a dream(or a nightmare) it is true... That's why we have cancelled the possibility of using the H gearbox On GTChallenge next hotlap competition 👍

For the moment I did 10 laps and managed a 1.21.934 to reach 3rd place in France :sly:

Well, heheeee, finaly signed up for the academy....ppfffffffffff,what a hassle man..
after 30 minutes i did a 1.22,030,so i am 2nd in holland(NL)....
see an easy 21,5 coming up tomorrow though...!!

spyrrari.

edit:btw,i use dfgt wheel, shifting with paddles, all aids off except abs(1),cockpit view....

The exit from the last hairpin is critical to maximizing your speed over the bridge and on that small straight. With RWD and on tires with little grip, getting the car straightened out as soon as possible is critical, and very challenging. This allows you go get on the power sooner, as well as using the last bit of the downslope to help get you going. If you do it just right, you can use the banking of the corner to help you with this, but in general you'll also need to ensure that your speed and direction are managed just right.

There are several turns here where going in just 1-2 mph too fast will cost you gobs of time on the corner exit. Slow in, fast out is the rule here.

Disclaimer: Since I run NTSC, I haven't run Eiger on N1s. I have run countless laps there on various cars, and spent some time with the Fairlady Z on S2s last night -- enough to crack the top 50 (a difficult task, given that many many Europeans have been using it for practice). This is free advice, and is worth what you paid for it.
