McLaren is not Dan Greenawalt or a member of Microsoft's marketing team. While rallying around a compulsive liar like Emula is an odd decision for you to make, I similarly have no more reason to believe that you actually represent PD anymore than McLaren does Turn 10.
Don't even try it lol, you probably know McLaren is Dan in disguise and Emula is Kaz. I don't have no way of proving it yet; but the truth has not yet been revealed. But seriously I do wonder if those developers are somewhere lurking around GTplanet. we could be debating with the lead developer of a game and not even know it. For all we know you could be calling Dan or Kaz a compulsive liar and not even know who he actually is.

Compared to FM6, sure. So good; you finally admit GT Sport at launch was disastrous as well.

That's not T10's fault. By that logic, FM7 could've debuted above FIFA 18 b/c it had a few extra days on the market as well.

Otherwise, that argument doesn't hold much.

The only valid argument are the real numbers....

emula, does this mean that during the month of October GTS was out only half the time of FM7 and still landed ahead on the charts? And also does these numbers include FM7 on PC as well as Xbox one??

It really is worth repeating what Slip said.

Of course, all this childish "nuh-uh, your franchise sucks" poop-flinging ignores two things:
  • Sales figures do not equal better games. "Great" games can and do sell poorly. "Lousy" games can and do sell well.
  • Competition breeds excellence.

If more is better, does FM7 win because it has many more cars, does PC2 win because it has many more tracks. No off course not. So this fascination with sales figures is all a bit moot. All it means is a lot of people bought it. The fact that the vast majority played it for a couple of hours and then never bothered again probably tells you more.

I keep seeing that kind of argument. Seriously, that's not exclusive to Gran Turismo it happens in every single video game. It seems people are unaware here but casual gamers make up majority of video game sale numbers, those who play at certain point in the game then move on to something else and yes they do exis. Probably the most important thing to PD right now is to maintain a healthy active players and so far from Ive seen on kudosprime they are doing fine with 600k weekly and 100k on sport mode. https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?stat_preset=active_players_7_days

It's too bad I can't find a sit

I posted the exact same link earlier in the thread so not sure what your point is. And I didn't mention any other game. I'm not sure why people keep bringing up other games. I though this thread was all about the hype surrounding GTS being played by over 5 million people?

My whole point is, it seems like that you're implying they failed with GTSport because people didn't play or invest in the game for too long even though thats pretty much how the gaming industry work.

I haven't said anyone has failed. I'm just tempering the over 5 million figure with the reality of the situation. I haven't posted any lies, untruths or even opinions, just figures. Is that a problem?

And if that's pretty much how the gaming industry works then it would make sales figures even more meaningless, no?

Well, that's not true at all, on your first post you assumed people wasted their money because people who bought the game didn't spend a lot of time with it without any proof to back that up.

The reality of the situation is majority of GT fans are casuals and it's not really surprising to see that millions who bought the game didnt even tried the sport mode or invest in the game for too long.

So you think spending £50 on a game and only playing it for a couple of hours is not a waste of money?

Again, skewing data to validate your pre-determined narrative.

Purposely choosing to showcase game sales by individual platforms? Telling me monthly sales aren’t fair because one game is out longer than the other, but it becomes perfectly fine in a different market bc your game is ahead?

If this was anyone else, I’d entertain this, but bc it’s you, it’d be a waste of time. You’re too far up GT’s arse for any chance of reason.

Forza has its appeal with its niche but let's not make it seem like the franchise is in the same as league as Gran Turismo in terms of commercial/cultural impact, its not even close. Reviews and taste are subjective and we all got different appeals but in terms of commercial/cultural impact give me a break if you think Forza is close to GT let alone Project Cars. :)

The question really is "Who cares?".

Well that and "What exactly do you have to gain by trying to prove that one game sold less than another in a thread about how many copies the second game sold anyway?"

It's like you're obsessed with Forza, for some reason.

Edit: No, this post is not an excuse for other members to start behaving insultingly towards this user or any other user.

It's like you're obsessed with Forza, for some reason.

In my opinion, the topic could also be closed as the main topic is derailed and postpone everything as soon as PD updates the official sales data on the site:lol:.

It’s easy to miss the bigger picture. Some say there are 500K duplicate accounts. That seems extraordinarily high, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, upping it to 1m.

The initial tweet and conversation starter stated 5m accounts. That was clarified to 5.5m. That’s 500K ‘duplicates’ accounted for at a stroke. GT Sport is adding 250K accounts per month - this increased to 500K in June - thanks to the Days of Play promotion.

By September the series will be at 6m accounts. We don’t know for sure but I’d estimate that would translate to 4.5m-5m sales. By the end of the year that could be 5.5m+

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Spec 2.0 relaunch before the gen is over.

If the calculated 3.3M sales figure was anywhere close to correct, then that does mean about 1M of duplicate accounts AND shared copies of the game, together. Lots of people share a game within a household; that should be no surprise.

Another chunk of 'players' is the about 400K who played the open beta but didn't buy the game.

VBR
Nobody in this thread is denying that GT Sport has sold well, they're just pointing out that a sizeable amount of people aren't continuing to play it after buying it.

Welcome to gaming.

None of us can really comment on how well GTS is actually doing since we have no clue how big of a budget it had nor do we know what Sony set as a sales target

This is some reductive logic. We know GTS is not the most expensive AAA SCE production. We know its general sales range. When selling 5 million+ there is zero chance GTS has not made a lot of money, even if we be pessimistic and say its average retail price was $30.

Not to mention the only sales stats we seem to have are for the UK and even then we don't get solid numbers.

We did get solid numbers.

However what we can do is roughly compare GTS to other Sony first party titles using estimated sales numbers and in that aspect it's not looking so good.

Thats a silly idea. You're comparing a racing sim to AAA SP games. Its like me saying Final Fantasy isn't doing that well compared to GTAV.

5 million players is a huge success! Took GT6 3 years to do that, GT Sport did it in 9 months. GT Sport is the most successful sim racer this gen in the entire universe but you know haters gona hate.

GTS will probably end up 7-8 million sold by its end. Will be hilarious to see what some will say when PD continues to post official data.

GT however, went from a franchise that consistently moved 10,000,000+ copies for each game until GT6 dropped and the sales literally dropped in half. GT Sport sales are reportedly at 3.3 million, behind the PSP title.

GTS sales are 5 million+

You also act like 10 million was sold immediately, when in fact it was over several years. GTS hasn't even been on the market for one year.

Furthermore you are purposely ignoring how the racing sim genre, racing genre in general, has collapsed.

Forza Motorsport has been declining since 4
DIRT is pretty much dead
PC2 showed massive decline

The difference is all these titles sell 1-2 million. GTS even with its decline is selling 5 million+

I doubt Turn 10 are worried given sales for their other racing games.

Turn 10 don't make any other racing games.

The question really is "Who cares?".

With certain members like @emula, it's always gonna be Forza because that's the only thing they can bring up when it comes to sales and simulation. It's become a joke at this point, really.

Or maybe tracking sales and showing sales will enlighten some people on a more objective reality of racing games and their popularity rather than hearsay

GT Sport does not have 5 million sales. The numbers PD released of all the titles and 80.4 million overall do not match.

Your post is more nonsense from the GT side.

The only mathematical certainty you can get from those figures is that GTS has sold 3.38 (?) million+
Its been 2+ months after that.

GT Sport sold over 1.5 million in 2 months, but only 3.4 million from Oct-May?

Post proof now.

3.38 million+
Its a range.

I'm saying 5 million+ from the OP.

Also I love how you ignore everything else in my previous post:

Your hypocrisy
Your lack of account on the sim/racing genre
Your poor comparison by comparing lifetime sales to GTS's 9 month sales.

5.5 million+ users
I'm estimating around 5 million sales.
They’re not the same. What part of this is lost?

If they sold 5 million copies and have 5.5 million individual users, that means only 500,000 copies have been shared through pre-owned or by the original buyer to someone else.

The statistics don’t add up. It’s asinine alone to think GT:S up and moved another 1.5 million units after the 3.4 million est. figure 2 months ago.

That's it: I'm quitting GT Sport and pCARS 2 and I'm going to start playing Mario Kart 8, because better sales = better game. ;)

Just play Fortnite, you know, 'cause everyone's doing it. The coaches of the German football team even had to cut off the players' internet because instead of sleeping they were playing
