Who said it's a release party? And if so, why no release date to back it up?

It's a launch party apparently.

Picture the scene.

Adrian Newey pushes out the paper-mâché X1.
Kaz suddenly leaps onto the stage with a sledgehammer and proceeds to smash the living crap out if it.
People think he's finally gone over the edge.
The debris reveals that tomorrow is the launch date.

Proceeds with lots of back slapping and rib tickling.

Everyones happy that they can pick it up tomorrow in the shops.

People who have pre ordered are angry that they will have to wait a few days extra because Sony didn't tell them of the surprise.

Stores will open at 8 AM.

Wait, wait. So we'll be able to buy Gran Turismo 5 at 8am on November 25! :dopey:

Good. Now that we've deciphered Sony's secret code maybe they'll announce it officially :nervous:

Has anyone been able to confirm what tracks will have dynamic weather, and night?

Nevermind, back to the Track list thread.

lol! So why no word from Sony considering it's around the corner then? There's no link to the info for the party? Two weeks today and no info?

That basically sums up the confusion we all have but I'm sure GT Planet must have some sort of realible source to the news.

I've counted two separate people with the game who have posted videos.

One guy posted the intro and some menu stuff, the other has posted mostly gameplay.

It fits the bill of viral marketing, being relatively cheap to make and getting spread around like a computer virus. If it's real, so be it, but we'll probably never truly know if two guys managed to snag copies of it to show us small tidbits, or if Sony wanted to drum up interest before firing up the hype machine.

Either way, it's coming. 👍

Surely if it was a viral marketing campaign they wouldn't have leaked the intro movie

No way this is marketing. The low res vids make everything look quite poor, and I think thats the last image sony would want to project after all this release nonsense.

Well the 25th wont work for the US but maybe its the 24th or 23rd, 25th all the stores will be closed to help celebrate the day we decided to stop raping the indians for there land and had them cook most of a meal that we ate together aka thanksgiving day. I hope they dont release it that we, I will be out of the state no where near my ps3 or gt5 copy.

This was actually a rumor on GTHQ. they said it came from a reliable source, but it's not confirmed by Sony.

Or flip off the viewers...

I mean it's a G rated game...

The whole point of 'viral' marketing is to make it seem like it's spontaneous and real, something that people won't think is produced by the company selling it. We then go hunting for whatever was shown in the video, and bam, they get an approximate number on how much interest they've created. They then use this number to judge how much they'll spend on real marketing and such.

So either this is really good viral marketing, or two guys managed to make off with copies.

If this game doesnt come out in the next three weeks or so, pretty much every 'reliable source' ever loses their credibility

 Are you suggesting Adrian Newey basically designed a 1500 horsepower Pinata?

So, it also makes me think - why haven't we heard about other release 'parties'? Considering it's probably going for a worldwide release.

Either Sony need to pull a fast one for 2010 (funny how this is a massive game for them and nothing in over a month) or they breath easy and launch early next year (not what we want!)

Seems likely, as its just to guys. lol! Plus the copies don't have the red Merc on the front - i.e. release versions.

I think this explanation shows that it isnt viral marketing. Sony and PD already know how much interest is in the game. ALOT. Thats why they spent so much time and money on it. When it comes to big title games like this, there is not alot of guess work involved (bar when the release date is lol), they pretty much know how many and how fast the product is going to sell. Market response testing is usually for new products that are being floated onto the market.

I'm thinking that Sony aims to announce a date shortly before the launch date. Maybe they feel they owe us a pleasant suprise after the last delay. A 2011 release wouldn't make any strategic sense as December is a golden month for most retailers. Worst case scenario is that they are trying to patch a major bug but I refuse to believe they could have overlooked something like that after all these years of development. Finally, Kaz said the game is in mass production and that indicates it's closer than ever.

The Collector's Edition boxart is black and white. I know because it influenced my decision as to which version to preorder :sly:

Makes you wonder if this IS indeed a viral marketing campaign, since most people who would care enough about GT5 to grab it before release, would probably flood us with all sorts of info at our request..

If you look at his other videos on his YouTube account it shows him with a lot of other games early, so I think it's a guy that just gets early access to video games somehow.

I really want to believe it, but it really doesn't make sense to just release the biggest PS3 title will little to no marketing. Wouldn't a few adds or something have popped up by now?

A surprise/quick release wouldn't be good because they have obviously put a lot of money into the game. I just don't see the logic in Sony for GT5.
