Posted this in the general discussion thread, but I guess it is also relevant here:

The sounds in the polish GT video were highly distorted and therefore hardly reflect the actual sound quality of the demo. These distortions will make the cars sound much more rough and agressive.

That said, I can only warn to base your judgement on those videos. I rather recommend to wait for the video uploads announced for tomorrow. These should give us a more realistic impression.

That is probably why many people seem to think that engine sounds in the GamesCom build are even "godly". Unfortunately, despite definite improvements in some areas, they still retain the usual "synthetic", "dead" feel from what I heard from clearer audio samples posted, and I'm not referring to the sample quality.

They can't be final, because in terms of engine sound liveliness (again, not sample accuracy/quality), the Time Trial version seemed to be significantly better, at least with the internal view.

Hoping for further improvements in the TGS build...

The sound is disorted , but it sounds awesome this way you got to agree ;)

Alba has put a sound file of the XJ13 up.

Alba knows his stuff, nothing like lossless audio!

He's idling at a certain part. its amazing, then you can tell he puts it into gear and wind and stuff come into play.

At low revs it had that characteristic unmistakeable British warble to it.

I do that all the time in GT4 park at the pit exits at the ring (to watch in replay) and just idle rev cars, low revs give the nicest engine tone, higher revs the exhaust starts kicking in and the frequency range narrows.

Uploading a sample of the sounds I recorded (karts) No videos for now, I'll do that tomorrow but at least you get what kind of sounds we got.

Karting sounds

So tomorrow I'll have the hazardous task to edit and synchronize the video & the proper sound and make sure they're as close as possible. Wish me luck, lol.

The phase of one of the Audio channels is inverted after the 10 second mark! Which makes it sound all wonky and smeared

I fixed it by inverting one of the audio channels - much better now!! Though still not 100% right, must be because the cable wasn't plugged in properly.
Also removed the DC offset before doing so, a fair bit too, about 3-4%.
Sound is pretty clipped/distorted though.

Sounds much like the kart clip on PD's site, so it's not dubbed ;)
Good thing - the sound is more in line with what I heard in the Time Trial, no longer has that GT4/GT5:P zing and synthetic pitch shifting tone

Of course it does, I just don't want people to believe this is what the demo actually sounds like.

Exactly, the reason I also posted this in the general thread.

Guy's I put it on YT

Seems like the high pitched tones are being clipped giving you the impression of grumbly rumbly sounds. Just like a Super GT video on Fuji a while back the sounds were just being clipped by the microphone recording but they don't sound like that.

Compare the kart sounds in that video compared to the offical kart trailer to see what I mean.

I processed this audio file as well, same problems as the one above.
Now the music is normal, but wonky after processing which makes the music smear into the background, but the engine sounds better :)
Although there is some obvious pitch shifting, but it's not too annoying and chipmunked

Real Jaguar Xj13 to compare. It sounds synthetic in comparison, but I can hear the character in it. The proper GT5 audio should be much more defined based on Alba's kart capture vs the PD's kart video
I just don't like the throttle blips in GT5, they don't start low enough in the rev range and sound distinct enough, but if you using a clutch and H-Pattern you can get around that and do it yourself I suppose

I suspect that PD weren't allowed to rev it to the red line to record the sounds :)

Mmmmmmmmm :drool::drool:

However... It does sound some what synthesized at the higher rpms...

But from what it sounds like, it's also not the greatest quality clip

I'm liking the Jag sound, especially the lower revs. GT Has usually had pretty decent lower rev sound, but it really thins out at the higher revs.

Help me out with cleaning up the sounds while I split the video files then! I'm going to upload all of them in another folder, and let you do your thing so I'll focus on the XJ13 & Karting videos first :)

It depends what part of the clip you are talking about, theres a part where it sounds like hes idling, and revving then takes off and then it sounds bad because you can hear the rumble, tire noise and wind noise. Also its an open cockpit so the noise is greater.

I fixed up Alba's recorded sound files for his recent videos
My opinion - they don't sound as good as the 370z in the Time Trial. Lacks the roundness of tone

I've also made some low res redited versions of Alba's videos with these sounds to give a better feel, which I'll upload later

Nascar Impala

Having not heard the others in Real life before, I can really only say something about the Impala. Overall, I'm impressed the improvement as it lacks that gearwhine it had back at E3 so I think it already sounds much better. Don't know if it was just me, but when it sounded like it was switch to the bumper cam, it sounds like it had a tad bit of some raspiness (sorry if I'm not making sense at all) that the real car has. I'd say it needs just abit more of that, perhaps alittle more deepness in tone and I'd say it'll be good.

Also, did he get any sounds from the WRC cars or the other Super GT cars? If he got those and the sound hasn't inproved, leave it to me :sly:

No WRC cars or Super GT cars

Your right about the missing transmission whine. So these are most probably just preview beta builds once again. All over the place

Alba's Lamborghini Muira video with fixed audio. Gives a better impression when you can connect the audio with image

Thanks CoolColJ, now you can also clearly hear the Nissan GT-R's deep rumble when it is near the Muira. 👍
