I have the feeling I'll know this when the answer is posted but now, for the life of me, can't work out where I know that ugly boat from?

Is it 14 Blades?

Nope and Nope
" War is not fair" that is a small clue. It does have to deal with the movie but it isn't a line in it.

Don't know if it has anything to do with the tip but I'm guessing: Ong Bak 2?

Tip number 2 # This series was made into games, novels, anime and drama shows. recently a big movie that was split into two parts.

Clutching at straws but is it Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows?

Nope, Red cliff is a important battle in the Three Kingdoms. A period of warring states that was made into Dynasty Warriors, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, SD Gundam: Three Kingdoms, Battle Vixens. John Woo produced this film also. The movie production only was the most spent in HK movie history ( since it had to be split into two parts).
Red Cliff?

YUP! your go 👍

It was also a repost  👍

I actually just guessed it because of the car. But here we go!

Ahh.. should have known. I've seen Red Cliff and really enjoyed it.

I knew nothing other than the part about the film itself(which is a must see, especially the battle scenes).

Anyways, someone else can have my go.

I wouldn't exactly call this movie a comedy. It's very serious, but it's still about love stories (!), albeit eccentric ones.

Hint: Directed and written by a famous Japanese director, who usually acts in his own movies.

HINT: The soundtrack was composed by Joe Hisaishi, and this movie marked the end of said directors collaboration with Joe, due to a row they had about what songs to include in the movie and when.
