Opinion to be respected (Edit : shopping_carts' I meant).
But I'm no pro driver : I'm only a game-station driver. Which implies several things :
1) I can crash 100 cars a day (Montoya or [insert driver here] can only crash one car in a week-end, except of course Michael Andretti and Jean Alesi),
2) I can drive at 200 mph with James (Hetfield) yelling in my ears.
3) I'm not paid $ [insert amount of millions here] for that, I do it for free.
and much more...

I don't know what the disk space situation is at the moment with GT4. ie. how much they have filled their disk capacity for the game, but it could be possible to do what was done with Tony Hawks underground and just put a load of tracks covering a a decent spectrum of Genres. ok it was basicaly down to Rock, punk and hip hop but there was some variation and you could single out the songs you diddn't want and have songs to suit your own taste... or you could just switch it all off :)

Then you should propose PD to do the music selection for them. That'd be better than having anyone else on this thread doing it
I think they have to keep the track selection wide enough to please most of the players, but we all play to feel sensations, so I wouldn't expect any kind of soft music.
I mean, Barry White for instance. I like to listen to that kind of music in certain occasions, but not when I'm playing/driving. I find that Feeder (they should definitely put some Queen instead) much more appropriate.

If my opinion was to be taken into account, I would limit the music to 3 or 4 genres with 3 or 4 tracks each, and keep all the available space for extra cars or racing tracks.

it should be all trance/techno, logically, because if we have to race 20 laps per race per 10 race series, will be zombies anyway.

...I'm thankful there are some people here who share my opinion that you should just kill the music altogether. I'm surprised so many actually have it on whatsoever. Then again my PS2 is directly beside my computer so if I have an musical desire I just jump in Winamp. Still, I'm surprised.

Sage also spotted what I was going to quote - newly registered in Aug 2002 o_O

I'd counter with "Honey Buns", but...

You do know you can turn the music off?

Anyway I found the music fine in GT3, I quite liked it especially Feeder's songs. I would like GT4 to use the HDD and thus be able to play your own music.

TBH my post was abit harsh, it's just that I live next door to an idiot, a 20+ year old loser who lives with his parents who feels the need to grace our ears with hard house dance music, with what sounds like a smurf singing over the top, VERY VERY loud, and for about 14 hours a day. It's enough to drive anyone to hate dance lol

To be fair, the kind of music this guy is listening to is Godawful, don't judge real techno/dance by that filth.

Music of that genre in this country is a bloody joke.

I just realized that I have unselected almost all music in GT3. The only two songs remaining are As Good As It Gets by Grand Theft Audio and She Sells Sanctuary by The Cult. I find that the others are boring a receptive and the hard rock songs are just down right annoying.

If the E3 video is a representative of GT4's music, it will be in range of being better than GT1.

As I've said before, I can deal with a lot of types of music. I don't really have a real preference than what you mostly hear at the nightclubs. That meaning, hip-hop, electronica, and about that. To me, such music gets you into the racing mood. Ridge Racer Type 4's music get me into the race in a unique way. The jazzy techno actually isn't sleepy or cheezy, I actually like it. Maybe racing a beautiful car or track, the soothing melody of jazz pianist Keiko Matsui does it best. The Japanese performer evokes a sense of nature and peace. But whatever music is best depends on the racer's tastes.

By the way nael, it's Lenny Kravitz.

Lets just hope to have a lot of different types of music and in options allowing the user to choose the type, and what kind of tempo music they want. As theres many different tempos in one genre.

I'll keep my HDD space for the game.

I have to admit I went out and downloaded Feeder - Just A Day because I liked it on GT3, but I haven't had music in a racing game since, well, ever really.

IMHO the racing music in all the GT titles is rubbish.
I do adore the menu music in GT2 and GT3 though.
Lovely jazzy music.

menu music drives me nuts in GT2 & 3, as I've said once before its too damn cheesy :D

GT1 had best menu music :)

For me, a jazz/techno mix outside of racing will work for me. I'm more of a melodic lover of music. More melodic music is more like what you'd hear from Nintendo, or in my case, MegaMan games. Not MegaMan X, but the original series). Maybe I'm just old-school. Techno is surely NOT old school for me. I mean, I'm more of a calm, laid back person. Music for personalities- that would work fine. If you're just some punk, this song will work for you:

"...I'm a loser, baby... so why... me?"

I didn't want to say the rest of it, because it would be offensive. But it's probably something the next F-body would like to hear. But you get into that Fina McLaren F1, turn the music off and just enjoy the ride!

maybe with the 20gig hardrive coming out, you'll be able to shove MP3s on it via USB from ya computer!!!

So everyone can listen to what they want instead of people here arguing about it:p

Anyways to me I dont care...if I can hear my BMW Straight 6 thats all that matters:cool:

I think that music isn't important in GT4,look at GT4 prologue...there was no music during gameplay, but the soundtrack in GT2 was great instead off GT3 wich was ****....!

Another question to ask is if GT4 will feature its own "Music at the Speed of Sound" or something. I found it a shame that Ridge Racer Type 4's soundtrack was Japan-only, so I don't know if a GT4 soundtrack would help. I mean, I don't care if Hamasaki Ayumi, Every Little Thing, or even Chemistry or Exile are in the game's Japanese soundtrack. Would be interesting to hear some tracks from the game. But if that happened, there would have to be music not found in the upcoming game. So a GT4 soundtrack to a music store near you... you like?

Ok, Gran Turismo is a sim right? So there should be no music what soever when racing...maybe on the menu but not when racing. Does Montoya or [insert driver here] drive around and 200 listening to their mp3 player or discman blasting led zeppelin or some techno or whatever you choose? I doubt it. If your a true hard core racing fan the cars tires and engine and any other sound thats heard racing is your music

You do realise that most of the cars in GT do in fact come with stereos? These aren't all F1 cars, you know.

But I agree that I have the music off most of the time, when I'm driving seriously. But I don't always drive seriously, sometimes I just drive to relax. I wouldn't mind having a decent selection of tracks while I cruise the Ring in say a Skyline, Z, or RX-8. And anyone here know the Stig? :D I bet some music could really improve your concentration. :D If that drifting thing is worth anything, I wouldn't mind doing that to a decent tune either. I put some nice Dire Straits on the back of my Xbox racers and that doesn't don't bother me while driving at all ... :D

(Though in terms of sound quality you're probably better off just mixing your PS2s soundsource with another one through a mixer. But I'm sure not everyone always has one lying around)
