GT1 had best menu music :)

The techno drives me insane!
I also like the kind of cheesy music! It makes the game stand out on that department as well!
And I love jazz too!

I just turn the music off during the game play....
I think music works well for Arcade racers but in GT?
Although I do would like some good music for the replays... The music and the replays seem off most of the time.... I'm not sure if there is a sweetspot in the music category for GT because it doesn't have a image other than a simulator...

BTW, I usually end up listening to radio talk shows on enduros... I was wondering how a GTA talk show would sound like on GT4... Talking about cars in a weird demented way of some sort:lol:

All I know is that this is the best game with the worst soundtrack of all time. Lenny Kravitz is cool, but the funky mix version of his song is totally out of place.

Anyway, it should be more like Ridge Racer, Initial D, or even Need for Speed.

Animateria is right, the first thing I did was turn of the music in the game and the replays. It's totally weak.

I thought some of the techno in Namco games like the Ridge Racer and Tekken series had some of the better music in games. Those like Ridge Racer V and Tekken Tag Tournament have music from people you rarely hear of. The only one I can recall were the Boom Boom Satellites. I don't know who's the hottest on the electronica (or for some, techno) curcuit since I haven't kept up. But surely, techno is ACTION music, and stuff like that would mean getting into the race better. Whether the music is from Darude, Sandstorm, the Mad Capsule Markets, remixed JPOP, I don't care. I think it gets you into the game. I don't care too much for rock. Silent jazz would be nice for just staring at your car, and maybe some operatic music for the Museum mode or maybe even Photo Mode (unless you can make your own music videos of you in a Camaro outrunning a Mustang). Imagine someone like MiniMADness playing a tune while racing his Mini works car to the max... then, he'd have to buy all of us Minis. Meaning... all 27,000+ of us! :D

I notice johnbm01 keeps referring to ridge racer (R4) music..i have to agree, that music was pretty good for the game. i do have to admit, i even got the soundtrack for the game. i wouldnt mind listening to that acid jazz or whatever its called in gt4.

But yes, EVERYBODY knows that electronica is the music for any racing game :)

unless you got a game that is hardcore muscle cars...music for that game should be some ancient jurassic caveman music :P

Bob Zombie is mediocre at best, although they did put the remix of Dragula on the US version of GT2. It was a cool song to race to. Although it was a little short. GT1 had an awesome soundtrack, with the Industrial sounds of Cubanate which I first heard on a demodisc with an early video of the first GT game. Then It had that awesome garbage song, Ash - Loose control was an awesome track if you were dashing allong in a 900bhp skyline on the test course. Oh and don't forget that Feeder had several instrumental tracks in GT1 as well, including their awesomest song 'Shade'.

Er, blah, blah, blah, I could probably type allot more on the subject but i'd bore.

Some real, non-comercial trance would be good. Above & Beyond, Paul Van dyk, Armin Van Buuren and classics like Binary Finary - 1999 would be amazing while going 200mph in a Tuned BMW M5!:D or perhaps some progressive trance for cruising Nurburgring.
Release the game already!

needs some acid jazz. I've got all my cds on my xbox and my custom soundtrack on PGR2 (and other racers that i dont play as much) never get on my nerves or wear thin. Electronica and drum and bass are good for racing too. Techno/dance gets me stressed out, while the headbanging generic technorock (as in rallisport 2, crappy stuff.) gets the mute button right away. Current soundtrack runs the gamut from the sneaker pimps to primus, with the gorrilaz, beck, up bustle and move (awesome cuban band, upright bass-heavy), kid koala and others in between. Those are just my suggestions, don't trample on them as taste is subjective.

Amen to that

Theoretically, it is possible to make custom soundtracks on the ps2 using the HD, right? I hope so. If not, that puts a lot more priority on getting the engine and various car sounds dead on, because there won't be good bgm to distract people's ears. This is, of course, if you have it muted, which I most likely will because chances are the music won't be my cup of tea. Not that I've written it off yet or anything...

Some was good (Goldfinger's song only basically. :p )

I would like a LOT of techno/dance in GT4.

Nothing better to race to. :D

Or lots of punk music as well, or Rob Zombie. :D

If you can do this then im buying a hard drive!:p some good tunes would be gr8 in an enduro race. I hope your right about the engine sounds coz i usually have GT3 (bgm) on mute too. The engine noise is music to my ears.

I will be checking out Prologue tomorow when it's released in the UK. Can't wait.

Who gives a rat's ass about the music?
My CD changer is next to the PS2 on the shelf.
I found the option for turning the music off. Now I listen to what I want when I race.
Or if I have the house to myself I turn on the "Aux" option and listen to the race cars in Surround Sound.

Gil: Good music makes driving better. I'm sure you have some sort of soundsystem in your car that you use every day. It's just more fun to race to good music.

Surround sound is something I'd love to setup, I have it on my PC, racing GT with it would be pretty damn cool.

When I drive in RL I listen to my NetMD via one headphone.

I am taking this topic into full consideration because music is an art, and I am an art person. And regardless, I would like to see jazz, electronica, hip-hop, rock, and even classical represented in GT4. I mentioned that I am more of a melodic person. I think R4 had some nice jazzy techno. In a way, I wish the techno beats were a little more progressive and a little more like its predecesor, Ridge Racer V. The Ridge Racer series was notorious for having some rather bad-sounding music. Go all the way back to the original Ridge Racer. You had to live with the music. I played Rage Racer, and the music was a little better. Ridge Racer V was the best effort at techno. Even though the graphics are pretty outdated with Ridge Racer V, the music still blends in nicely. I mean, you got some techno going while you're racing around Ridge City on a deep blue sky day, a wonderful sunset, dark blue night skies, or even the darkness of night. The music isn't perfect, but it just feels right. The best game series with great techno has been the Wipeout series.

I've mentioned classical music earlier. The only two I've really gotten into were Charlotte Church and Sarah Brightman (both from the British Isles). When I got into Charlotte, her voice was angellic and wonderful. Her most recent foray into media was the DVD movie "I'll be There." I haven't kept up with Sarah Brightman at all, but I think she released an album last year. My favorite songs from Brightman was "La Luna" and if you keep listening to the song, you'll hear "Moonriver." It is so beautiful. I've cried a few times to it.

I can't help but notice alot of people want Techno/ Trance /Dance whatever you want to call it style music (Me being one of them :p ) Is this veiw reflected across most GT players and on other forums? If it is it makes you wonder why PD go for the generic rock stlye music that they do :odd: :odd:

John if ur into arty/dance stuff check out Finished Symphony by Hybrid its a beautiful track.

Ridge Racer Type 4 was so slick!.

Still the best looking overall package that exists for a console imo.
The intro was awesome looking, the tracks was awesome looking
the cars were slick looking, the girl was a sexy cg-girl ( ;) )
and the controls was nice i think.

GT4 might be the one to be able to equal it.. cause i still
dont think that any game will match RRT4 in a few years.

Some highlights of GT4P soundtrack :

GTP - Launch 0:55 in the song!.. just love that guitarriff :)
and the samples that plays in the background.. time flies?
or something .
The drums are very catching too, and you find yourself to
play along and humming :)

GTP - You are to me. Another cool song, and i really like the girls
voice. It suits this kind of music perfectly.
Another guitar/electronic hybrid. I really like the distorted
chords at 1:18 in the song too :)
And how they change small things in the song while going on..
a bit kraftwerkisque :) you dont notice it, but you notice it :)

GTP - Cruising - Sounds like a Kraftwerk ripoff :) like a b-side of
Autobahn from 1974. Awesome with the vocoder singing, and
some very good drums again!. Getting some speed into the
slow song.. so its laidback , while its almost dancy.
I usually FF to 1:48 just to listen to the vocoderparts again and
again and again... sun is going down, you cruise around
nurburgring, watching the scenery for a change, the wind in
your hair, someone in your heart etc ;)

GTP - It could be. Another good song, with a singer, that sounds
almost like the singer in R.E.M :)
The sound makes you think it could be R.E.M aswell.
First starts of with monotonos singing which is perfect for the
chorus which have doubled up monotonus and in the other beat
melodic singing.. Not awesome, but very good.

GTP - Prologue intro - i really like the electronic piano.. and the
tb303 line.. and the whole "intro" feeling it has.. :D
extacy begins at 3:18... :D

To the topic called "Soundtrack to GT4," this is the topic Eagle mentioned. So yes, it's been discussed before. Reply here instead, BMW. And as I said before, when a person comes up with a topic already discussed, we don't hate you or your thinking, we're just helping you out so that you can keep a topic flowing without having to worry about foul responses. Having said that, make any replies you please about this topic, alright?

Uncle Harry
My solution. Turn music of in GT and play your own on your stereo.
Nice to know your an art person John.
That's the best thing I've read in this thread so far. If no one else had of said this, I would have.
