Lets stick to just trance. Trance is good. Very good.
yes, and as i've experienced, those mostly 7"-12" tracks are especially good for long endurances.
Anyway, i'd choose:
- deep and psychedelic trance for endurances - BT, Yahel, AP, PvD etc;
- more common trance and techno for regular races - Alphazone, DJ Shog, Jan Wayne etc;
- japanese eurobeat and european 90's eurodance for drift competitions - Solid Base, Look Twice, Karen & Dave, Amadin, La Bouche etc :D

PS: for those who say that sim racers should be played with music OFF: switching on vents to blow air to my face would give me much better feeling of "being there" :)

Which is of course relevant. If you want to mount a fan infront of your cockpit, I welcome you to do so. Just don't expect PD to fund it.

Real drivers don't listen to music ( Did you ever seen Ayrton Senna adjusting the volume of his cassette player ? NO )
GT4 is a sim is in't ? then no music. Specially if it's of poor taste, with yelling kids and 100% synthesizer instruments like the ones in GT3.
How about some useful crew pit messages instead.

Real drivers dont use video game controllers (did you ever see Richard Burns driving his car with a game controller? NO)

Yeah, GTR's engine sounds are pretty awesome. Each one detailed right after the real thing. That Lister sounds like a beast when it's by itself on the track.

I happen to like the vanquish. I turned off my music when I got the speed 12 which is really quet(sp) I couldn't get any clue as to when tto shift because the engine was drowened out by the music. I never seemed to mind it off in any other cars even in endurance races.

until you can hear Ticking or Pinging in the engine to signify somethings gone wrong then i'll listen to music, otherwise i'd fall asleep during "Nurburgring 300K"

there is a reason race car drivers don't listen to music, it has to do with 1: weight(a deck and a speaker add just the littlest bit of wieght), and 2: the need to hear how the engine is doing

we don't have to worry about either so play whatever i want in the backround

Not to mention, they need to be hearing the pit cheif for any accidents, etc. on the track, or any exterior damage. PLus, how the heck are they? The engine would drown it out easy. I've seen an in car video of the Lister Storm doing a practice run on Donington, and that engine was blaring!

I agree 100 % with you, that's the reason why I own a Logitech driving force.

Sure I don't mind any music during the opening video , or during the menu selection but when I'm driving the only sound i tolerate is the wild roaring of my Vitz engine.
Why waste space on the DVD for music played by second rate musicians , or in GranTurismo case by garage bands :)
Music doesn't bring anything useful to the games.

I only use the music for replays.
Just annoys me to play Sim racing games with music playing away in the background. Induction roar and exhuast notes are music enough.
Fine for Arcade games like NFS & Burnout e.t.c.
And P.D should do something about Menu Music, Ughh. Improve it or Lose it.

Except if it's GOOD music! Gotcha there!

Maybe a lot of you don't appreciate music, so good for you if you turn it off. GT is not an immersive game to me. The engine sounds need a lot of work, it needs realistic pit stops, stuff like that to get me sucked in if it really is a "sim". I think they need to "simulate" some pit lane babes to really get that realistic feel :dopey: . Wink wink nudge nudge say no more.

Okay back on topic, the majority of people who seem to care about the topic have said trance, and I agree to an extent. It's more ambient, so you can concentrate on racing and not trying to figure out how to mute obnoxious trashy rock and techno.

Sometimes. the music helps me get into the action.

BTW, looks like Daiki Kaisho (something close to that) will be back in GT4. I guess PD likes the songs.

Am I the only one bemused by the fact the only thing stopping people slipping into a trance while they compete in an endurance event is trance music?

You really are a post whore :sly: I wouldn't mind somegood music as long as I can choose to turn it off. Maybe they should have a "purist" mode where there's better graphics at the expense of having spectators or music. 💡 👍

I'm hoping this is just a phase you're going through, because a lot of the time it seems like you're replying for the sake of replying, and that's not really cool.

Gran Turismo 3's music isn't what you call great, but I thought it was definitely better than the first two. Gran Turismo 4, meanwhile, should be able to have pretty good music, that at least would suit some genre's tastes, possibly all.;)

Right now, I would yell at you, but I am just not feeling like it right now. I've been trying to wait for GT4 without yelling at anyone, or doing anything to ruin my chances.

Choosing music for a racing game would be pretty difficult. It isn't like an RPG or something where you can style your own overtures that fit the theme you're trying to establish, you're trying to let the player establish their own theme and style, so you need a lot more variety to do that, without impacting on space dedicated to the rest of the game, plus you need to find a balance between repetitive tracks that will be great for short races but painful for hour long enduros, it's another precarious balancing act where you just have to try and hit the lowest common denominator and hope for the best. Or make the rest of your sounds so varied and interesting that people don't care.

You mean like a good techno beat for a 2 lap race, but not for a 2-hour race?

I think it would be a pretty crafty idea for GT4's music to match the time of the race, and I think it would be good if it could also mean the same for license tests, even though all tests are somewhat short. Hey, I need a little motivation, some of us do.:p

Kaniyodrift - do you usually drive without a windscreen?
no, but when not stuck behind some diesel monster, i have the left and middle fresh air blowing devices at maximum - dunno where racing car drivers get their air as i haven't been in one.

Umm... hard drive anyone? I hope you can buy a bundle including GT4, DFP, and the HDD. that would be tits!
