If I could only get sideways...

I'd drift like a monster. But I'm having trouble. Does anyone have some plain english tips on initiating and holding a drift. For instance, how any of you initiate and control a drift at 600+ hp.

Thanks. ^_^

it should be pretty easy. my friend can drift with 600+ without any suspension mods and on slicks. the real skill involved comes with the low-power sim tire drifting. try tapping the e-brake to enduce oversteer..what drivetrain are you trying to drift with??

Well I'm going for FR and 4WD. (FC and ZZII) I turn in too much before the back slides out. I end up oversteering mostly. I can get past the understeer to make sure I get through the corner, but if I oversteer, I'm done for. I'm using the dualshock

I agree with the non-tuned sim tire drift.. that's where the skills come out.

BTW, drifting in GT2:s motorsports land can be a thrill.

Allright, first of all you can't make mistakes. With a highpowered car you can handle understeer and such with the power, but with an under 300bhp car messing mid-drift usually results in the loss of speed or a spin.

Power over drift is out of the question in most high speed corners in GT3, so you need to use other techniques. Clutching would work perfectly, but there's no clutch in GT3 so you have to use the gears instead. When you enter a corner, brake hard and if it's a 2nd gear corner, leave the gear at 3rd and hit the accel, then downshift to 2nd to get a quick "boost" and whoo, you're sliding.
Just don't get too much sideways or you'll lose speed.
I'm too tired, so i'll let the others give you more pointers.

for me waht i do is go at a turn say about 80 or so and break into the turn and if you can control it correctly you can balance out both counter-steer and accel. with that you should be able to make a drift and dont try to drift intial D style. ive heard alot of people "oo i want to drift like inital D, but all i do is spin out please help" and the answer dont even try to drift like that. id say first watch as many drift videos as you can and see and analyse how they do it..:D :D hope that helped

i can hold those "crab-like" drift angles from initial D for only a few seconds..but it's possible. and only with a lot of practice...ive logged a lot of hours playing GT3 with all 4 tires slip sliding :trouble: as for learning to do the low-power sim drift, take the white FC(the EXACT setup)used in the how to drift guide at the top of this forum. take that car and practice and practice in it. i chose apricott hill..since you can drift virtually every corner. it may take a day, it may take a week. but you will get the hang of it and its tons of fun!!

Thanks alot everyone :D I'll keep practicing with the tips in mind and once I get it down, I'll take some shots or maybe a vid. I apreciate all the help.

np, just dont attempt to use the e-brake with a properly setup drift car...all you should have to do to swing the tail out is hold down the gas..to bring it in you let off the gas. just remember to brake before turns, turn-in(before the turn) then modulate your gas/countersteering and you should be drifting :p

Are there any vids out there that include the throttle, speed, turning icon, etc in the replay? I can't seem to find any. That would help alot of people I think.

yeah i had an idea to make a few drift training videos..but im 56k right now so that's a no go. maybe trueno86 could make one

Hey, I'd let you use my cable if I could somehow.

Hey hey, I was just practicing in Apricot Hill with the FC setup from the guide. I pulled off one successful drift. Allbeit a slow one, it was a drift. I'll keep practicing.

make your goal to combine both turns 1 and 2 into one massive drift ;) one of the other challengine turns is the 180 after the S turns, its a good 3-5 second drift...tricky :trouble:

To initiale and control a grift in a +600hp-car (and other cars) I just do a feint motion, braking and power over to intiale (yes, I start the drift before entering corners), and then control the accelerator and countersteering untill the exit.

Wonderful wonderful tips, I think all I've got to work on now is the timing for each corner and countersteer. Maybe a week more of practice. Thanks alot everyone :D
