Quick question guys. Say after the first 3 months I don't think I'll be able to play much, for exams or whatever else. Can I skip a month and then continue with the same account with no in game penalties to ratings and that sort of thing?

Yes, you will just pick up where you left off.

Legendary
I thought promotions were monthly, or is that only rookie? I'm D license 3.4X or so, I should be up soon, I don't play often during the week though because of school and work.

Yeah after Rookie promos are only scheduled after the season is over with. Unless your MPR is satisfied and your SR is over 4.0.
The Star Mazda is the C class open wheel car. From what ive heard it has awesome participation and racing.

Sorry for the questions guys but I'm quite seriously considering this...

One thing I can't find answers for:

That promo special offer of $6 for a month or $50 for a year for "league members", is that any different than the normal subscription?

Yep you don't lose a thing when your subscription ends so you. Am come and go as you please without penalty. 👍

Woops, tree'd by a long way on this. Didn't see the latest page on my phone!

Yep, very much so. Standard rates are $12 per month or $99 per year, a special offer is going on for $69, or was until the end of July.

Sorry so league is different than normal? How are they different? Wish the site explained this better

I got a quick question also. Thought I finally had this all figured out, but I guess not.

How do the points work in the Nvidia Cup?

Seems everybody gets different points even though they finish in the same position. First race I ran I finished 3rd and got 78 pts. Look at championship standings and someone else only did one race, finished 3rd, but got 80 something points. Anyway just wondering.

I'm currently 7th in Nvidia Cup standings right now. Had three great races tonight in the mx-5, a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Also finally figured out Lime Rock with a quali time of 59.492. If I can smooth it out just a bit I'll be knocking on the door of breaking 59's.

Jav, that´s a nice looking car :)

Cool stuff Mad!, feels like we are just at the beginning of this whole sanctioned online racing. In the future we might have all FIA cars, ACO cars the other V8 supercar etc etc :)

I´m actually very interested in trying the V8 after NTM, i really think it will be one of the most popular cars in the sim after that.

I went ahead and got the 1-month, 6$ trial just for s***s and giggles. This is going to be a lot of fun, although no dynamic weather is a letdown (I know night racing for endurance stuff is in the 2.0 release).

It sounds silly but F1 2011 is still going to be my go to game when I want to race online in a league and feel like I am living the full "race weekend" experience. Neither GT5 nor iRacing can provide that at the moment.

Night racing is only available for Sebring. The reason why you don´t see stuff like dynamic track conditions, rain, weather is because they want to do it right. More of a scientific way instead of just eye candy like all other games do.

Like rain, they would have to develop a rain tire model which accurately lifts water from the ground and tosses it in the air etc.
Laserscanned tracks means water will form in the correct places etc so that´s good.

The points for your race results are dependant on the relative skill levels of all the drivers in the race. The skill level is the iRating (IR) value that each driver has (although it isn't visible when you're a rookie, it is there). So if you win a race against a lot of people with low skill levels then you could get, for example, 50 points. However, if you came 5th in a race against a lot of people with high skill levels then you could get, for example, 100 points. Your's and all drivers' iRating value will go up and down over time depending on who you beat or get beaten by in races and how your iRating values compare.

No difference. It is all iRacing.
At first I thought it meant that I had to join a league! LOL

Leagues are created by the iRacing users. You can join any league that will have you or start your own league (GTP iRacing league anyone?). They often run their own events. It is not necessary to join a league to race in the iRacing sanctioned events. I am running now in the iRacing Rookie cup and I have not even looked at joining any leagues.

:)

from the iracing site:
In addition to the fully sanctioned racing that is offered on iRacing.com, you can also join or start your own league. What’s a league? Simple, it is a series that is run by a member, not by iRacing. Here is what makes it different:

* Race against who you want – password protected sessions allow you to control who can access your race
* Race when you want – tracks are open 24/7 and you set the schedule
* Race where you want – choose any car and track combination you like
* Score your way – you create the scoring system for your league

Interested in league racing? All you need to do is become a member. Many leagues are open to all members and others are private. We even have a dedicated forum for league racing where you can find a league to join. Don’t see one that suits your interests, start your own!

I won't quote all that but thank you.

They almost make it seem like the league thing wasn't quite what the regular one is which is why they have it cheaper.

Only thing holding me back is the eventual cost of all this and if I'll r really have enough time to justify that.

It's like 6$ a month. Just try it and if you don't like it, stop paying for it. I'll tell you one thing though. If 6$ is to much money to spend to try something out, then iracing probably isn't for you. If you race very much and want to advance to faster cars, it gets expensive. I've had it for about a month, and I probably have spent over 100$ on it already.

You don't have to buy any cars or tracks, but if you want to move out of the rookie class then you will have to make more purchases. But if you just want to have fun every once in awhile it's well worth the 9$ a month just to race for a couple hours a week. It takes racing to a whole new level compared to any of the other racing games I have ever played.

Bevo I'm well aware it's $6 to try. I said the eventual cost because I likely need to buy more cars, tracks and months subscription. I'm wondering if I can justify that whole cost how much I'll be able to play it.

Long term thinking not short.

Had a go in the Prototype and GT Challenge earlier today, it was quite fun most of the race. I finished 7th i think.
Video below of some clips from the race.

Dang I was thinking of letting some people use my account if they wanted to try iRacing out... but you cant take your credit card off file, you can only replace it with a new valid one, and ya cant scrub your order history which again permanently has your address and credit card lol.

Be careful about letting people play on your account it is against the terms of service. So if they enter a race and wreck people you would be responsible, offline is fine though.

Guess I won't be playing much this week, I'm having problems with my internet and according to my ISP's call center it will stay like that until friday...

I think I'll be starting with this tomorrow if all goes well. Found an old promo code that still works. $18 for 3 months plus a car (can't remember which one).

Yet another day, yet another guy who doesnt know what the hell he is doing...
You know that moment when you are rounding the hill on lime rock in a tighish formation and you see tire smoke on top? That moment when your heart skips because you know its all blind? Yeah, that happened:

I was running 7th, the guy in 6th has been one of my favourite competitors since I joined iRacing. He escapes the carnage (insane luck) to second place whereas all of the rest of us at the back of the pack are involved in the crash. This crash was really advantageous for me (not SR wise) because I was the first one out of the scene and into the pits. I also know that there is a refuel screen on the blackbox for the car which can reduce your pit time by about 30 seconds. If you don't refuel you are out of there within 20 (everyone refueled) which is what I did.

So in the end, I ended up taking 3rd place and the guy infront of me who escaped took first.

In the rookie series?

Limerock - 20 laps is about 20 mins, + the 5 mins practice is 25 mins.
Okayama - 25 laps is about 27mins (roughly), + the 5 mins practice is 30-35 mins.

Okay thanks and that's a great result from your race today considering how much worse it could have been.

Yeah, its kinda amusing that me being involved in a crash ended up with me in a higher position then if it never happened .

I rarely ever race in the rookie series bdcausd i always gdt caught up in a wreck by some n00b. Kills my A license.

On a different note, is anyone having trouble with the Android iRacing planner app? My phone had an update, Sony update, and it hasnt worked since.

That wreck was bad enough on its own, but it didn't have to be a big deal if he would have just waited for everyone to get by instead of trying to turn back around when he did. That stuff drove me nuts...

I remember some of the first races I did. I didn't set up the buttons on my g27 to be able to navigate through the black box and I couldnt access the keyboard. I was freaking out sitting in the pits waiting for 50 gallons of fuel to be dispensed (50 might be an exageration but it takes forever).
