👍 Seriously. A big 👍. That sums the whole deal up pretty nicely. It hits one of the biggest reasons for my personal disappointment sqaure on the hat. My own, very personal disappointment with which's reason nobody has to agree, by the way.
I've read or watched an interview regarding sandboxy games. I think it was around the time of GTA 4's release. That guy said (basically):
"A game lifes by its limitations. Allowing the palyer to do whatever he feels like at any given time isn't going to make the game any good."
And I think that that's true. I mean... Would Super Mario have been any good if it gave you the choice to just fly through every level, without ever having to notice the existence of any kind of obstacle?
GT5 is worth every penny i have paid for it, in both game play and content. I admit we were spoilt with GT4's content in Aspec but i have had plenty of hours working my bob in Bspec to more than make up for it.
Some times people just knock stuff cos they can.
Well, and how is this different from any other racing game? Toca comes to mind. You have bots which trundle along like cruise missiles, even smash headlong into wrecked cars, making wonderful pileups. Your challenge? Take turns as precisely as you can and drive the fastest. The same for GTR. I guess you could say that Forza is a little different because the bots might ram into you on purpose. Is that your definition of competitive? Where's the strategy? The only racing in which that applies is online against other gamers, and GT5 has that too. It's not about the compteitiveness. I can drive the most underpowered car and it gets challenging, but I don't get a feeling of actually racing. It's a bit hard to explain, but basically, in a race, you have to incorporate strategy, defend your position, attack others' position and so on.
In GT5, you have to lap fastest to win. That's the difference. The fact that the AI is painfully slow just adds to that.
Please. The number of complaint posts and threads outnumber the positives by about fifty to one.For the 'heard it a thousand times' bit: That's the same with the GT lovers & defenders and with the guys complaining about complainers.
Playing the race card, Mr Sharpton?I don't think that would happen.
I don't like his attitude towards 3rd world country's though.
But I resent people rioting as if their life depends on it because workers in France might have to work till age 62 instead of 60. And it's about that stupid here.

I can't believe there are so many not only tolerating this, but actually LIKING it...
The main problem GT5 has is the amount of people willing to put up with what is a substandard (by PDs and GTs) standards game. Selfish people who can't see the hypocrisy and irony in complaining about people complaining!! GT5 will never improve enough with these people excusing every broken aspect of GT5s gameplay.
Until you can race similarly spec'ed AI cars, and they be a challenge, IT'S NOT RACING. It's not a 'sim'.
If you have to drop down to a car that in real life wouldn't be allowed on the track because, IRL, it would cause wrecks by being so SLOW, just to have a competitive battle with the AI, the racing part of the game is an epic fail.
You bomb round corners twice as fast as the AI, then they overtake you on the straights (or you block them unrealistically)... where does this 'simulate' any racing YOU ever saw?
Personally, I have no problem with 'rubber-banding' the AI (not your DS3!), or allowing them 'cheats', if, at the end of the day, I can go out on a track with the identical car to the AI, and half the time (or more!) I LOSE!
That's what happens in real racing. YOU LOSE! A lot...
And, it happens in other racing games, a lot! What is the more 'realistic' sim? Me, I'd say the game where you don't have to tie one arm behind your back, just to give the AI a chance! Running race after race, to try and find the PERFECT underpowered car is insaneThat's the game developer's job! You aren't expected to INVENT the rules of chess, trying out a myriad of combinations of each piece's possible move, to try to achieve a balanced game in the end (and failing, time after time). No... the rules of chess have been worked out, and we stick to them.
But that's what PD have done. "Here's a box of cars, and some tracks. Now YOU figure out what the best balance of challenge is"
That's laziness in the extreme. I don't know of any other racing game that allows this. And you know what? The complaints of 'Why can't I race my F1 car against a Fiat 500?' are almost completely absent. What has happened to the Gran Turismo franchise? GT4, GT3, they used to be challenging. Now, the only challenge in the game is finding where the challenge IS... And accepting that it can only come from racing cars almost twice your car's power.
I can't believe there are so many not only tolerating this, but actually LIKING it...
True..but there are followers to GT that dont know anything else and they dont want to. Unfortunatelly PD seems happy with these kind of users.
I've not only play F1 2010 (have it for both ps3 and PC) but many Rfactor F1 and Iracing as well. F1 2010 physics is clearly a lot more forgiven than other F1 titles. The difference is as big as between RBR physics vs Dirt series. You can't even lock up the brakes unless you try to turn while braking at max.Have you played the game? With aids off, the physics feel awesome. Yes, Codemasters were trying to simulate the life of an F1 driver. They were also trying to simulate the physics of F1 cars, and they did a pretty good job of it.
Actually I think the AI is better than FM3 and GT5. Of course it easier to program an AI when you focus on a smaller set of cars (and tracks) like Race Pro/On does than a series like GT and Forza.I hear the A.I. is supposed to be between FM3 and GT5 so I don't know.
If your worried about engine sounds in the game, your not in it for the racing or the competition. You can buy a cd/mp3 filled with all your favorite car sounds if you want improved sounds. To say that everything else is minor is accepting what PD has put forth so far. I will take in game saves over car sounds along with alot of other missing things. Things that are not there at all is way more important. Sound is minor and can be tweaked. Missing features and the like, can't be tweaked because it not even available. The disappointments in the game should be due to the lack of content IMO.
Gripes/complaints=fixable tweaking
Missing information/features=disappointment, needs overhauling.
Hmm... no.[...] PD perfectly nailed the feeling of friction between rubber and tarmac.
[...] PD, YOU GUYS HAVE NEARLY MASTERED YOUR PHYSICS ENGINE. NOW THROW EVERY LAST BIT OF SOUND DESIGN YOU HAVE DONE SO FAR OUT THE WINDOW AND START FROM SCRATCH.

Hmm... no.
GT sound has always been very sterile and robotic. GT5 is much the same.
None of the cars pop or crackle, the induction noises are weak. Some of the exhausts sound cool from outside the car at certain revs, but that's about as good as it get.
all i meant to say was that sound IS important and that i definitely prefer GT's physics over Forza's.
Way to mix apples and genocide there, perfesser. Completely sound reasoning...My god your naive. I suppose the Libyan's should just put up with Gaddafi as well? In a "democracy" it isn't the governments place to decide when the French people should stop working, unless it isn't as democratic as it proclaims to be. Yes, France is in trouble, but only because of the government and now you want the people to trust them?
If I agree with... whatever you said, do I get an A?Your attitude reeks of either adolescence or idiocy. But when groveling at Kaz's feet is priority numero uno, people being oppressed by there government must be a small, petty issue for you.

You speak of challenge, yet the events are all there, unrestricted! With a choice of 1000 cars, think of all the wacky different combinations you can challenge YOURSELF with! 💡💡💡
HERE'S WHAT I DO: Tune your car a little bit each time (this may take a while). If you lose the event, you need to tune some more! Repeat until you win the event by a small amount..... Yay!
Top tip: When you win the event, try taking off an upgrade and see if you can win again. Keep doing this til you decide it's no longer possible, and then RE-add the last part you took off, and jot down your new self-regulations in your Filofax! You will not have anything to show for it in game, but give YOURSELF a pat on the back. You won with your own tried and tested restrictions.... ....!! 👍
Yes, every country is in trouble because, like ancient Greece, the appetite of the citizens for "free lunches" provided by the government, and the nitwit politicians willing to provide them, eventually have to be paid for. Or haven't you noticed that democracies all over the globe have been trying to tell their people that they can't afford to keep handing out goodies, or pay for lavish union benefits, or that Social Security is going bankrupt...
If the people of this world don't all pull together, it's all going to be pulled apart, and not much longer from now.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Stupidest comment ever. you cant compare those games to GT. it doesnt go that way.
GT5 is for people that have a passion and love for cars. and race them etc. nothing like yeah lets crash all cars and laugh about it. then you got it so wrong. GT series is a serious game........
