Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

I don't believe anyone can deny that there were boatloads of bad decisions made in GT5.

Just hold on for a bit, there will be someone along to defend Polyphony Digital and/or the game pretty soon. ;)

Now that I understand DLC will be on a pay basis, I think the king may be dead.

I will not buy any downloadable content, so they have disappointed a customer once by releasing a badly designed, and imho, unfinished game, and may disappoint me even more depending on the DLC they choose to to charge for. :(

It will make no difference to them at all of course, unless I'm not in the minority. ;)

Nope. I'm not dissapointed.
It's good the game came out last year. I wouldn't rather to wait for another year and another and another year.

You should be lucky, this is the only game with 1000+ car. It takes time if you want this game to be perfect. Human is not a machine. So does Kaz and the co. They need sometime to rest too.

A bad game with a million cars is no better than one with 20. It is still a bad game. To be honest, if this game had ONLY the 200 Premium's, it would probably be a better game, because PD might have had some time left over from modeling to actually think about the GAMEPLAY...

Best, simplest thing they could do to this game would be to make B-Spec an option ONLY. Allow all B-Spec races to be run in A-Spec, at least that's a START at getting back some needed balance.

Exactly, 1000+ cars just sounds nice. If you consolidate all the multiple car models I wonder how many exclusive cars we actually have?

And besides, 800 of those cars are of lower quality than most current racing games.

As above, no number of cars can make up for a bad game. The useless AI, lack of events, poor damage modelling, average sound and weather effects, lack of tracks and graphical bugs would still be there if we had a million cars.

How long to PD honestly plan on carrying old car models along? As it is some of the models are over 10 years old and lool like crap. Some cars are worthy of being carried through the series (in which case they should be remodelled properly) but many of the used cars in GT5 are not

Told you.

I don't want perfect, I just want to surpass the previous game in almost every way.

The number of cars is significant if they all add to the game in some way, which most don't imho, rather than just making up the numbers.

The number of MX5s/Miatas, Skylines, NSXs, S2000s could have been reduced and more interesting cars included. Modelling any one version of most of the cars on that list cuts down modelling time on subsequent versions as they are virtually identical, so while they technically modelled 1000+ cars, they didn't actually model anywhere near that number of different cars, especially when you add in some that look almost straight ports from GT4 with minimal enhancement .

That would have left more time to actually design a good game. ;)

Most likely far closer to 900 than a game that advertises "over 1000 cars" has any right to be. GTPSP only really had around 700 (give or take 10), and GT5 has all of those plus some Premium duplicates as well (not to mention the idiotic Premium and Standard versions of the same cars).

Put it this way, I've been waiting on deadspace 2 for awhile and bought it on release. It's still packaged in my room. I can't pull myself away from gt5 to do anything else with my ps3. Could gt5 have been better? Sure, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it as is.

I won't argue with that because I am also still playing GT5, as I'm sure most people posting here are. It's just that as GT fans we expect a lot and 5 years (or whatever it happens to be) is a long time to wait for GT6.

Is it unreasonable to expect a lot? Of course not. The game has a huge budget and we all loved previous GT games. GT5 is by no means a failure, sure PD made some pretty bad decisions but hopefully they get back on track for GT6.

As I said though, 5 years is a long wait...

1000 cars? I don't count multiple versions of the car towards the count if only the body molding has changed. Even then...how many versions of the Yaris (for example) do we need?

Don't get me wrong...I still play it as well, but GT6? I'll wait a few months after release to get it.

GT is no longer a get on release franchise for me.

I checked to see when my last post was in this thread. It was Nov 29. Not much has changed since then. It basically comes to this, the fact that I'm sitting here wondering if Shift 2 will be a good purchase as I passed on it last time then that pretty much says it all.

And definitely not a system seller for me either. Although it wasn't for me but a strong encourager for the PS3.

This is my first GT experience, so take what I say with a grain of salt...

There may be 200 premium cars, but by the time you count all of the multiple versions like the GT-R's or the NSX's you're probably going to be down in the 150 range. They're nothing but the same model with different textures.

Kaz is a bit out of touch. Some models are grossly over-represented (Skylines and Corvettes, anyone?) while others suffer (Mustangs come to mind, but there are many others). I think Kaz has a thing against most American cars.

The tracks are ok, but instead of spending time making tracks up, why not add more real ones? How about a few more NASCAR tracks like Talledega or Bristol. Where is Sebring or Pikes Peak?

I know they standard cars are basically ports from previous games, but couldn't they have updated the graphics just a little?

Why on Earth is Go-Kart racing even in here? How about racing Semi Trucks and Tractor pulls while we're at it?

Licenses = Boring

Seasonal events rock...

'Nuff said...

Best car based physics that you can use with a pad. For that reason, it's a great game.

My only disappointment is the 'slapped together in a weekend' a-spec. It need to be 5 or 6 times longer and with more restrictions on tuning.

Online doesnt suffer from that problem, but it takes time to find people to play with.

Let me tell you something (and this may come across as a bit of a provocation, but it's not supposed to be) - yesterday, I played Forza 3 for the first time since GT5 came out. Before GT5s release, I thought Forza wasn't a very good simulator (if any) and I though the game was "a bit of everything, but nothing done properly". Then GT5 came out and you can guess what my first impression was. Let me give you (or myself - nobody will be bothered to read down to the end of this list :) ) a list of things I HATE about GT5.

Lack of tracks I'm sorry, but "Suzuka" and "Suzuka short" really doesn't count as 2 - It counts as ONE. Now try to count all the tracks in GT5 by this logic and see what number you come up with - disappointing, isn't it?

Stupid "premium car" choices I won't even start with the Veyron - I get it - they couldn't get the car for a week to do the modelling (and let's be honest - the level of detail PD put in every car is much higher than Turn 10). But why did they have to make Jaguar XK and XKR (basically the same as the difference between M3 and 330i) and didn't make the XFR Premium? I mean what the hell? And this is just one example of the stupidity.

Outdated Premium cars I can't wipe off the impression, that PD made all the models in 2007/8 and added perhaps 10 more in 2010. The Premium cars are massively outdated. The Focus ST is pre-facelift (that's a 2008 facelift I'm talking about folks...), the M3 is outdated (okay, that's just tail lights, but still), the old Z4, pre-facelift GT-R (although to be fair, this was quite a recent one), the old Golf GTI (and again, the new one has been with us since 2008), the C30 is pre-facelift (2009). I know some of these were in Prologue, but they really should've updated them... So for the last 2 years of development, PD weren't working on cars (except for the few new ones). What were they working on then?

Well, they were probably working on the AI ... no, actually I guess not.

Rolling starts It's just stupid. Everyone knows the real thrill is in a standing start of 10+ cars at the same time.

Interior It's the same problem as with Forza. PD spent hours on every cars interior (which is apparent when you look at some of the photos) but they didn't include a mechanism for us to get a glimpse. The way some people get inside of a car in photo mode is just a glitch - something we weren't supposed to do. I really don't understand why...

Special effects Need I say anything?

Don't get me wrong- GT5 is still a great game. But it's also a huge disappointment for me and I really don't think my expectations were too high. BTW. I could go on with the list, but I got bored...

Sad to say but TRUE...

I feel like playing GT5 Prologue [with GT Mode].

1000 Cars.
ONLY 17 RM-able.

Premium Cars??!@#@!??
Standard Cars??><>?":L@@!!

Clearly they rushed the "Un-Finished Game."

One Question though... To KAZ and PD what are you doing in the past 5 Years? 17 Race Modeable Cars and Premium Cars ???

Oh and the LOAD TIMES.... they're even longer than my level grinding...

My apologies.... no..no..no... I'm NOT apologizing for my above comment... HEH.. I BOUGHT the Game... YOU OWE US ALL UPDATES!!! C'mon man make it right.

GT 5 is clearly the worst among all GT series. When I play, it feels as if I'm playing the game made according to someone else's preference. I wasn't sure why, until I got to level 30. When I watched the demo of Red Bull Challenge, I said to myself, 'Oh my f...ing god, this can't be. It's a sci-fi manga.' I remember reading some article about so called Japan's Galapagos Syndrome. Japanese preference got differed a lot from rest of the world. So some of Japanese products are having difficuties in abroad market. For example, Japanese cellphones are made for Japanese consumer's needs but can't go global due to complicated and excessive techs put into them. And I see the same thing in GT 5. What the heck is this level system? Why can't go by licenses? Why did you put manga in the game. What are these excessive #s of concept cars? Why are there too many Skylines, S2000s, NSXs? Just give us a few best of the bunch. This game seems to be made for Japanese otaku, not for us people. GT 5 is a terrible example of Japan's Galapagos Syndrome. If PD has to please Japanese otaku, please make Japanese version seperate.

Does the complaining ever end? I for one really enjoy GT5 and I think it has a lot of potential

As far as the association with this installment, I doubt it will ever end.

After almost 6 yrs to get this game, the dissapointment is too deep among many of us.

Your last comment seems sort of contradictory.

The game has already been released, so its more a case of lost or unrealized potential, at this stage.

If you're fed up with reading about the disappointments, then don't read a thread about people being disappointed with the game. :banghead:

Simple really.

It is not as if this is one of a few threads on the site, it's quite busy, if you want to read threads with people saying what they like and how the love the game, there are one or two.

The only thing that didn't dissapoint me was the driving.

I sure didn't expect I would have to grind this much to proceed in the game. I mean, how will I ever unlock the B-Spec Nürbrugring 24h? Not to mention the same in A-spec. And "driving for fun" or "enjoying the game" by racing the smaller events won't get me any further, it's too damn slow!

The game is also very slow, both in the menus, and when racing. The standard cars have also started to annoy me. When I first heard of them, I raged. Then when I first played the game, I thought "they're not that bad, but I'll prefer the premiums". But now when I have played the game for long enough they, again, make me rage. I thought that they looked ok, but they don't. They look worse than in any other racing game on the PS3. So much for Gran Turismo's one main point, top-notch graphics.

AI is horrible

Online is horrible (I'll have to blame my connection, though not all games I play lag as much as GT5)

Kaz said that B-Spec will be done right this time... IT'S COPIED DIRECTLY FROM GT4, WHAT THE **** IS THAT!!?!?!? Well, not directly, you can't SPEED UP THE GAME ANYMORE, OOH MY GOD I'M GOING TO KILL MYSELF FOR THE PAIN GT5 HAS PUT ME THROUGH!

GT5 is a big dissappointment. I'll go play it now.

The only thing that didn't dissapoint me was the driving.
This is all that mattered and why people complain about non-driving issues in a driving game is quite ridiculous. PD did the smart thing and improved the one thing that really mattered, the physics. GT4 had great physics don't get me wrong, but myself being an avid drift fan the physics beyond grip racing were mediocre at best. Now we have physics that are great for racing and just about any other type of autosport yet people think menus are what make a game fun.

Menu's aren't what makes a game fun, but when GT5 would have been a much better game with the menus and the A- and B-Spec system of GT4 combined with the driving of GT5, one has to raise the question what the hell they did and why they did it.

They made a game for mature people that open their point of view wider to see the only part that matters is the driving in a 'driving' game.

I've been a fan of GT since GT2 and I have to put my hand up and admit disappointment in GT5.

The driving physics are sublime - as ever, but there are just so many unpolished graphical inconsistencies, excessively needless menu button presses and just these alone detract from what could have been a mind-blowing sequel.

I'm not the kind to moan and to be completely honest I am enjoying playing GT5, as I expected I would, but after such a long development time with numerous delays I cannot help but feel disappointed, and quite let down, by the quality standard that is apparently missing from GT5.

I'm just glad that this is my first GT game. I really like the game a lot, and if I had liked GT4 as much as this and waited 6 years for GT5 to come out I could see being quite disappointed. Honestly, 6 years to make any game should produce a far more refined product than this, although it's still a great game.
