Does anyone not consider the fact that

i) The team have been working 5 years on this game and probably deserve a week off and

ii) Next week is one of Japan's biggest festivals?

You're missing the point. Nobody denies PD some time off, especially when there are festivities ahead. The problem is that they posted a message on the GT5 message system on January 25th that the seasonal challenges will be updated weekly from then on. So why didn't they say that they will have a break, and that there won't be new seasonals this week? Noone would have a problem with that.

As an alternative, it should also have been possible for them to prepare new seasonals and have them released remotely. And if they ran into an unexpected problem (like having to fix the Academy stuff), they could also post a short message that the next seasonals will be late.

I think at the moment, fixing the FUBAR at GT Academy is the Number One Priority. I don't blame them for putting that ahead of Seasonal Events.

I'd like it if they'd just keep us in the loop, though - simple news releases to let us know what's going on would help. It doesn't take that long to craft a one-paragraph news release, does it?

As mentioned above, the Manufacturer Events would be most welcome.

I'd love to see a penalty system come back in some events, but in many ways, it was a pretty p**s-poor system in its own right - if you hit someone, you got penalized. If you took the position and stuck to the line, and the AI driver hit YOU, again you got penalized - and the AI who slammed into your rear end DIDN'T get penalized. That was weak, and made it very much feel like the game was "cheating" to keep you from winning.

But seriously, since when have anyone ever expected continuous after sale support for a console game, without in some way paying for it? I mean, before consoles becoming internet capable such a thing NEVER existed. You bought the game and then that was it. No updates, no DLC, no online support and no continued development of any kind what so ever.

Now we are expecting companies to give us all this extra post sale support and development, of which they have absolutely no obligation to do unless the product is faulty, nor do they gain any commercial benefit from it.

If I was paying for a subscription service for this then yes, I would be miffed, but the simple fact is, I bought the game, I play the game and Polyphony then, off their own back, provide online services and continued development, for FREE.

Seriously people, get over it, its not the end of the world.

For gods sake guys its only a game, why dont you try and earn your credits. in gt1,2,3,4 we didnt have a lot of features that we have now and just because it isnt perfect (yet) you spit your dummy's out. Its pretty pathetic...

Since they bothered to release a statement saying that they would do such a thing.

Had they not made that news posting saying that they would continue the seasonal events on a regular basis,
and even giving specific days & times for when we could expect to see them,
then I'm pretty sure this thread wouldn't exist.

Seasonals are a load of crap anyway so it doesn't bother me.

Crap or not they were something new to do in GT5 that helped "fix" a completely messed up a-spec leveling system and general lack of content (see my sig).

Also we were just told to expect them at certain times. First thing that happened? Seasonal events delayed or cancelled or... who knows, PD isn't saying. PD do this kind of thing way too much, of course people are going to be pissed and I don't blame them.

I did a 1000k endurance yesterday and today.. at lvl 30 a-spec I still have some stuff left to do in GT5.. no seasonal events isn't the end of the world, nothing video game related is THAT big of a deal, but I can understand peoples' anger and frustrations at PD.

Used to be like that not any more thank-you, those were not the good old days, where you could spend a lot of money on a rubbish game and just grin and bare it. Times have changed the customers are much more in control of what they want and how they want it, now. This is a massive sector of business, there is competition. We can demand whatever we like from a game now and the developers/publishers better listen or they will fail. People power.
Just look at what happened to the latest Final Fantasy released on PC, indefinately delayed for PS3 because the customers don't like it. Final Fantasy XIV is now £8 from Amazon down from £35, It's only just come out, and it's a subscription pay monthly game, but guess what it's now free every month, because the public complained saying how they didn't like it, paid subscription will only return when the game has been changed to their liking...
This massive change in consumer power is great, why look back with rose tinted spectacles? Gaming life ripped us off back then.

Hear bloody hear! Im just jazzed at being able to drive a car round a track and it actually seems like I'm there, almost!

PD chose to provide us with seasonal events and also chose to put up a message when they will be released in the future. They didn't however mention in that message that the next set of seasonals will be late, nor did they bother to put up an extra message for it.

Basically there are two possibilities: they leave the game as it is, or they provide extra content. They chose to give us extra content, which is good. They also chose to tell us about it through the message system, which is even better. But they put up a time table which they ignored just a couple of days later. And that's what doesn't make any sense. The effort on their side would have been exactly the same if they would have posted that the next seasonals will arrive one week late. Everyone would have known, everything would be fine.

Good points, but keep in mind that the game companies use the promise of DLC and updates to get people to buy games today. Robust online components, which of course require continuous support, are expected of any decent racing game (along with many other genres). Also, PD can make big $$$ by releasing quality DLC. The seasonal events are probably just to wet our appetites.

I totally disagree. They're putting a race that only 128 people participate in ahead of events that EVERYONE participates in? It's *******!

No, they're putting something that is going to make a much larger impact on their image first.
It also affects their relationship with Nissan, which is kind of a big deal to Kaz in case you hadnt noticed.

Wow... This thread is full of win whinge.

Go ask mummy for a cookie and milk and cheer your world up a little.

It's been said before, it's just a game. Why the néed to carry on like you are a shareholder?

Maybe I am simply missing the context... Here in aus we have half the country suffering devastating floods, the other half blown in the ocean.. What ever is left seems to be on fire..... Makes some p1ssant little software release look pretty insignificant..... As it does those doing all the whinging.

At least Kaz has the courtesy to tell you there would be a delay.

Its pretty obvious why there hasn't been an update - theres this damn GTAcademy debarcle to sort out first. "A little break" - i.e we've got other stuff to do.

And thats it, end of.

I was bored so I went out and bought GT5 Prologue today, and just sat and done C and B levels instead of the seasonal. Was a very enjoyable way to kill an hour. Level A tomorrow night. After work, that is.

But most people here bought a PS3 and a wheel (plus the game) just to play it - its over $500 - if you sell it all you loose a lot of money

exactly , i paid 70$ for the game [ its more expensive here ] & 400 $ for the wheel
[ & i admit im having fun ]

& its not that the game is bad.. its just its so good people want more events so they can play more... plus we all know its not that time taking for them to just keep these events updated every week..
with this few a spec events we deserve more than this i believe

+1. I fully agree.

I miss the days when I could buy a game and not have to worry about patching.

Since companies started releasing more and more unfinished and crappy games for more and more money... Since companies started actually puting features on the box and in the manual that aren't in the game... since companies started hyping so much stuff they dont' deliver on... since then.

Now we are expecting companies to give us all this extra post sale support and development, of which they have absolutely no obligation to do unless the product is faulty, nor do they gain any commercial benefit from it.

I am asking them to make good on the deal we had where I gave them $60 and they gave me a finished and polished product.

At this point I am not asking them for any free work, I am asking them to cough up the work I pre paid them for due to the fact I didn't get what I was supposed to when I bought the game.

Whingers, go play NFS or go play TDU2.

Nick off, the old saying 'good things take time' applies here.
If you are that impatient, go. You spent your money on the game, you are the sucker.
Leave us racers who don't really care too much alone. We love the game for what it is, a game. You guys prat on like your life depends on it.
Seasonal events? It's a free bonus, fell lucky that you got it.

I'm willing to whether this soot storm and wait for the game to be what you all want it to be. Too bad it seems most of you will be elsewhere...until GT6.
You paid for it, you made the decision. You don't like it? Who said PD had to account for just you.
Really, selfishness is rife here.
I play it for the love of driving, not because I'm a completest, not because I want it to always be in some form new.
It still excites me and frustrates me, but it's not boring.
I await the wall of rage I will receive, but I don't care.
You could just move on, and leave the rage to yourself, instead of taking it out on the creators and users of the game.

Tell you what, you go and do better, in the same timeframe.

I rest my case.

So correct me if I'm wrong: Your case is that everyone should be like you, yet you say the rest is too focused on themselves?

Again: The focus of this thread is that PD said they would update the events regularly and then they don't.
This is not about people demanding extra content.
As you might know this is not the first time PD misses a deadline and people are rightfully getting annoyed.

Were the seasonal events not added after release? A feature not in the box when you bought the game doesn't get updated for one week and you explode?!

What ever you do, do not play an MMO like Warcraft £8 a month for imbalance, content not delivered on time or at all. Your "rightfully annoyed" comment is way off the mark and quite honestly the most painfully idiotic thing I've seen lurking here.

You paid your cash for the game you have no one owes you anything. See it as a bonus that your game is patchable and that they continue to support it for nothing.

I was a bit annoyed when I wrote that. And you're right, I went off-topic.
I apologise, but I am sick of seeing so many complaints.
That being said however, I retain my orignal points.
In all honesty, I don't see where you got the 'you should be like me' bit...

I'll re-illiterate, PD aren't your servants, despte the fact you paid for the game. As much as we'd like to, we don't get to make the decisions at PD...

I understand people spent lots of money on the game, that's your problem, not PD's.
The frustrations at delays are understandable (it's happened a lot before, ambitious targets), but at the same time, not all of us take into account that something unforseen could've happened in the world of PD, making them unable to forfill their obligations.

I just have fun with the game, I like it for what it is. No, it isn't perfect, I don't expect that.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but some have gotten out of hand.

There are other options out there, have fun with them instead of consistantly complaining about GT5.

That's my rant, calmed down.
