Le Mans 2010 and GT5

it was a freak incident that's happened maybe twice.

Off the top of my head, I can think of at least four occassions that it happened (3 times the Merc CLR, and the above Porsche 911 GT1).
But I agree with your overall point, it was down to bad design and lack of wind tunnel testing. I couldn't see it happening to a modern LMP.

Also, back on topic, the 908 has Michelin logos on the tyres, is this the first time in a GT game? I remember there were rumours of PD collecting detailed tyre data, and this might support that.

Could be just another sponsor thing and I wouldn't see too much into it ( although I'd love to be wrong on this one ).:)

If I recall, I think Michelin was already on various cars before.

premium tracks made fresh for gt5. normal tracks from existing tracks updated to fit alongside new tracks...higher resolution textures, more geometry etc.

id imagine all tracks having same day night cycle features and weather....else its not gonna feel right.

What if a modern day LMP1 car got turned around at top speed? wouldn't all the areo parts suddenly start working in reverse, causing the car to flip up backwards into the air?

It happens in NASCAR, and they have half the downforce and weigh about 1250lbs more.

Check out Stephane Ortelli's crash at Monza.

I don't think the aero working backwards has as much to do with them getting air as does the fact that the bottom is pretty flat so it catches the smallest amount of air and multiplies it as the angle increases.

That was actually an LMP2 car, not an LMP1. The LMP2's are lighter, but I bet a similar incident would have occurred had it been an LMP1 car.

@Wateverman- The flat underside is only half if it. The other half is the spoiler. If a small spoiler can flip a 1.6ton NASCAR SC when it goes backwards, I bet it'll send and LMP1 car to the moon.

I don't want to see this in GT5. :(

So let's be honest here. Who else on here fired up GT4 to take some laps around de la Sarthe after the 24 hour race was over? :sly:

I did as well. Took the gt-one out for a couple of laps and did a 3:32 around the Sarthe( super hard tires all aids off and manual transmission). I also did a few laps with the Mclaren F1 race car and Oreca team Viper gts-r. GT4 still looks great after all these years.

It's been a while since I hauled keister down the Hunaudaires in GT4. Anyone else notice that the G25 FF damn near rips your arms off in GT4, why is GT5 Prologue so tame in comparison? Heading to the Nürburgring for some much needed nostalgia, my sweet bumps how I have missed you...for in GT5 you are no longer part of my life.

lol yeah i took the Audi r8 .. for a few laps around the track .. gosh FF on the g25 is insane .. im not very good at the game with the wheel .. i spent most of my time crashing due to them awesome bumps .. i ended up downgrading to a Holden CV8 .. least then i stayed on track :P

About "wrong" top speed in GT5.
First of all - tyres.
Second - tuning, gear ratios.I really doubt that stock LMP Pugeot in GT5 tuned same way as real.
Third - weather,wind.

Big difference is aerodynamics (adjustment of front and rear wing) and tires ofcourse!!:)

The demo not having the correct engine characteristics probably due to being made in short order makes trying to judge the top speed guess work at best.

If GT5 full has the same car with the same incorrect stats then that would be a real issue.

Personally iam more interested to see if they have the McLaren F1 correct.

Guilty, Pescarolo, while the race was on, got a 3'19.500, sweet :)

@post above, what's incorrect? the speed? All you need to do is take some wing off and the speed will rise, so what's the problem?

I agree that tyres might have an effect, but not the set up of the car. In real life at a track like Le Mans, surely the car would be geared for a high top speed for the very long straights, therefore at the peak of the car's performance. And I think there must have been a very strong wind in the demo, based on the slipstream we saw. ;)

You seriously think the tyres have a greater effect on the top speed of a car as opposed to the gearing, downforce levels, etc ?

I think you maybe should do some research into race car setup.

Tyres make you go around corners faster, they don't make you go faster down straights.

More downforce makes you go around corners faster, and slows you down on the straights.
