I remember in GT2 the whole Taurus paint job turned it to a NASCAR, I thought that was real nifty, and Ive looked for some on GT3 but the only thing remotely close Ive seen was the Penzoil Nismo. Just a thought and something to talk about.

Do you want cars to look like NASCARS or drive like them ?

My personal view is that I would like GT4 or higher to have a bigger smorgasbord of racing cars and types. ie I would like to see more ovals added, more rally tracks added and more GT race tracks added. But you will find that a lot of users want to keep Gran Turismo focussed on what they do well. So you may not get a lot of support. (I would have liked a few NASCARS in the game too).

Basically, there are no NASCARs in GT3 and no cars that even look like them. That is because you will see mainly Japanese GT cars and Le Mans cars and fantasy cars that basically fit in these classes. There are a few exceptions but not in the NASCAR bracket.

If you look here you will see photos of the prize cars that are available. There would be no cars that fit your query that you can buy but not win so have a look and see if you find anything you like.

Ya I agree with u, I did want to add one little side note. NASCAR's Steve Park drives a #1 Penzoil Chevy. In GT3 the Nismo Penzoil has a #1 on the side. Deliberate? Probably not, but enough to catch my attention.

We can only hope that those companies that own the licenses that Polyphony do not use them well.

Problem is that the NASCAR license seems to only go to companies that don't include a lot of fantasy in their games.

Sure I like NASCAR racing but compared to the Gran Turismo series it does get a little boring. EA Sports have dabbled at least with fantasy tracks but it still needs something else.

In my collection of PC and PS2 racing games what is missing is the ability to drive the ????car on a different track and also some sort of career progression.

On my sega mega drive Mario Andretti Racing had you start in a slow speedway car, win money to modify it and if you won the series you went to NASCAR and then Indy Cars.

NASCAR games don't generally allow you to modify the cars. This is ok but how about a career where you start in the support type races and then work up to the Busch series and then the real thing.

Gran Turismo certainly has the mix in these areas right in my opinion.

My gripe is that the other companies just don't get their act together. I assume a lot of my issues are due to the license holders eg NASCAR do not want fantasy games they want simulation games.

This is not supposed to be a coincedence put in by the makers of GT3.

The Pennzoil Nismo GT-R is a REAL car, it is #1 in real life as well.

Yeh, for that year in the JGTC i believe it was number 1. I wouldn't mind 1 NASCAR. No more though.

Now that is a unique response and very sensible. How about the NASCAR and maybe some other "novelty" cars be prize cars that are fairly hard to win or are deep into the game. That way you are not forced to race with them but at least you can get to drive them.

Good idea. I'd like to feel out a NASCAR but not depend on it for anything.

More or less, what I was getting at with this post was, not have it be a NASCAR game or make all the tracks like test course. I was saying it would be nice if under Ford they had the Taurus and you could paint it like a NASCAR like in GT2. Im not a die hard NASCAR fan, but I just thought it would be kind of fun to do that. Anyways just a thought.

I loved the (R) mod in GT2. It was one of the thing I loved to do to my cars, however I didnt like 1. That it was an actual car upgrade, and 2. it was so expensive. I just want a paint shop where pre set paint jobs are, so u dont ruin your car trying to paint it. I would get a Monte Carlo and paint it like Jimmie Johnson's, I think that would be great, and no it wouldnt be a large HP car, just one that looked nice, a car for show.

If you want nascar, buy Nascar Racing. GT (European, Japanese, Touring, etc etc) racing is so unrelated to Nascar, there's really no logic in putting in a Nascar into Gran Turismo. Same goes for putting in more ovals.

Pfft. On a 6 mile track? All the engines would explode before the first lap. :p It would be kinda neat to have all sorts of "special" cars be available only as endurance prizes instead of just F1's though... a stock car, some of the "banned' rally cars, maybe even a Daytona Prototype just to really mix things up.

And for what it's worth, a lot of Nascar fans and a good number of drivers would like to have more road courses on the schedule. But of course Nascar found out that they can squeeze the most money out of a 1 1/2 mile oval, so sadly that's probably what the series' future will wind up being. I miss Riverside.
