lol that was just an example, i'm just saying there's always going to be situations for people where they won't have the internet and it's pretty stupid to not be able to play a single player game without being online.

You've yet to really describe how considering yet again the world we live in, if this is a direct issue (which I believe you said it wasn't) then sure I could understand, but I'm guessing that the majority of their customer base is using products connected via internet because if they weren't then the game wouldn't sell and EA tends to make things that will sell and do so at a vast amount.

Speed isn't necessarily the problem, stability is.
Also, what happens when the online servers are shut down? The game becomes a paperweight.

Which happens all the time, welcome to the gaming industry. And they don't have to be shut down forever either, think about maintenance and patches and so on which also cause shut downs. I mean perhaps it's me and the games I'm use to for PC and console that have had this.

Have you considered that not everyone in the world lives in areas where broadband internet is readily available? And EA is well known for making stupid decisions, look what happened to Sim City....

If you own a PS4, XOne or PC then it is likely you have internet available. Please stop mentioning Sim City.... yes we know it has been mentioned over x100 in this thread.

Provided the servers are stable and you don't get DC'ed every 5 minutes I don't mind the online only. But if the servers are crap they better remove the always online.

Yes the majority of us do but not everyone does, and the internet can go down randomly.

I think the reason they want it to be always online is to stop people downloading the game illegally, which is fair enough but it's still going to cause problems.

It's EA. If online only will make people pay to play their game obviously they are going to make it online only.

It must of been a big decision to make their game always online. If people don't buy it because they don't have Internet then it is their loss not ours. But I'm sure having it always online will have their pros.

Basically this. Everyone has worked out that the only reason EA is forcing Always-On DRM is to please their shareholders. The decision makers at the top couldn't really care less about the social benefits always being online provides, that's for the marketing team to come up with.

At the end of the day, the always online requirement prevents piracy and with a highly anticipated game such as Need For Speed, EA took any measures necessary to maximise cash generated from sales even if that means alienating a very small proportion of players (those without internet).

Didn't some players mod SimCity so they can use it offline (even before EA put out the patch)? If the servers end up being crap (which is highly likely, given past experience with EA and NFS in general), I'll gladly mod my game and stay offline instead of getting online only intermittently.

Hopefully they have learnt from Driveclub and The Crew and prepared accordingly. If the beta is true then I'm slightly more reassured. But I'll still hold off 1 week at least before purchasing.

So discussing why some people have a certain distaste for certain aspects of the game is wrong because you don't feel like reading it?

No, it's quite alright to state your dislikes for the game. The problem here is the issue has been beaten to death in this thread, and it is unlikely to change the game this late in development. Instead of cluttering the thread, you and others would be much better off emailing/tweeting/sending an open letter to EA directly, or better yet voting with your wallet and not buy the game. EA only cares about money, so you gotta speak their language.

Anyway I won't be bringing up MT or online in this thread anymore, lest I become a hypocrite. So feel free to post anything. Peace out 👍

This is another video on grip handling and I thought it was nice how it looked, I will stick to drifting though.

It looks much better in that video (having a good driver certainly helps!). In some corners the car looks a bit understeery though. Probably because the old Porsche has so much weight at the rear (IIRC the old 911 Turbo in HP 2010 and MW 2012 was also understeery unless you drift it).

He does bring up a good point though. Even though you like Grip, the game will have drift events and you get XP for the style component, so it would be better from a progression point of view if you stick to Drift. I think I might just leave it in the middle and just adapt my driving as usual

We really need more info on game progression. We also don't know whether the 5 icons will be our mentor or rival. Do you need to beat them to get their rides? Or just earn enough XP to impress them? Or both?

I play a game where even some of the less well off areas dont have solid net access yet they are still able to play, now we put that on the scope of a company like EA running off servers from other just as large groups. Once again if it was so massive an issue they wouldn't be going this route, EA makes decisions based on making money despite how stupid people think it is.

I'm guessing the frame rate will be more stable in the final release but check out how bad it's running in the e3 build... looks like about 20fps when it drops

BlackPanthaa said it was due to his video conversion and I find it believable since I haven't seen fps drops on other videos, but I did notice textures not loading and the wet road reflections disappearing at times.

BlackPanthaa mentioned in the comments of that drift video that the graphics looked even better in a newer build .
The music that plays when customizing cars though... yuck.

You guys probably already know this but I just read that we can put a spoiler on top of a spoiler. Holy ****, that's crazy!

I'm not really a fan of that online-only direction many games are going towards these days. Yes, it does help with preventing piracy but I don't really like being forced to always play in a social environment, especially if it's with strangers. I like playing online but I want to be able to enjoy the game alone as well.

There's also the problem of having no possibility to pause the game which is already annoying in NFS Rivals, for example. And also, if you have connectivity issues, it then means you can't play the game at all.

Uhh... I did that before, you know. ^^;
Doesn't matter, though, Xzibit's face in that pic cracks me up all the time.

I may have taken that idea from an earlier post in this thread... Sorry about that :embarrassed:

I've never played Rivals but I'm guessing you cannot pause the game in Single Player races? I don't see the point of that if there are no other users in your session.

You can bring up what you would call a pause menu, but the game itself never pauses.

Which was annoying, with Rivals' police units, who would arrest you for being parked off the side of the road.

No, even if you're offline you can't pause the game, which is especially problematic if you're a racer with a high stack of Speed Points and a high multiplier and you suddenly have to do something important.

It's a silly design flaw really but I'm afraid that it will carry onto future games too.

From the gameplay we have seen this won't be a problem in the new game as the cops don't chase you unless you are doing a race. It was a big problem in Rivals but it looks like the cops are completely different now.
