I can't see this having been mentioned, but at the GP on Sunday, Mercedes announced the new C63 Black Series

380kw 👍

And $200,000aus :(

SLS in GT3, but this would just be menacing in GTE against BMW, Corvette, Beetle, Ferrari, etc

Sorry, that's right, the SLS runs in GT3 doesn't it. 👍

Can't see Merc/AMG wanting to develop two separate cars for two similar categories of racing though.

Perhaps they'll use it as a basis for their next-gen DTM car?

Mercedes already promote the CLK model via the DTM series... although the DTM cars aren't anything like the road car beyond having a vagely similar appearance!

On past performance, the black series cars are super fast but lack that last little bit of handling finsesse compared to something like a GT3RS... still something that's very desirable to own though, and I bet it sounds glorious.

You are correct. My brother owns a CLK63 AMG Black and it sounds amazing and is just super FUN to drive... Its definitely not a track demon like a GT3RS or anything like that... Just the combination of noise and the back kicking out every now and then when you punch it makes it incredibly fun to drive. Although I have to admit the steering response is pretty sharp and its pretty stiff as a whole as well. On a track though... I think the GT3RS would make mince meat out of it... :)

Absolutely no shame in that... a GT3RS makes mincemeat out of almost anything on a track

These "things" are called Black Series because all they do is make the black stuff on your tires dissapear in a magical, smokey, way.

I love the current gen C-Class, such an excellent looking Merc and this looks even more bonkers!

Watch the Top Gear episode where Jeremy reviews this car. Your view of this car will change very quickly.

You are confusing the CLK Black Series (which TG reviewed) with this (which was just been released).

I don't understand why people can take Topgear as a serious car review programme cos it definitely isn't. :dopey:

Watch Fifth Gear or better AutoCar if you want a true driver's opinion.

Cause they tested the car against the original version of the Merc was better the only thing the black had going for it was faster and looked more sporty.

But you know whenever Clarkson say something it probably has 10% of truth and 90% of personal reference and perceptions.

Nobody uses KW, but they know what it is.

Australia and most of Europe (iirc) uses kW as the measure of power with Nm for torque....gotta love Americans! :dopey:

In other news, 380kW is something like 500hp, anyone else think this has become the 'standard' power output for most sportscars?

Pretty much. Most sport sedans are pushing that much and more. Just look at the Jaguar XFR, BMW M5, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and Audi RS6.

This is the fourth Black Series car they've made huh? Any news on a Black Series SLS? :p

I'd say closer to 400-450hp for sports cars and super sedans and 600hp for super cars.

I don't think any of the motoring press have driven this car yet.

And Clarkson owns a previous generation CLK Black as his personal transport... so he can't think it's that bad.

Nobody here uses kW or Nm. We use bhp and lb/ft, even in magazines. I can't talk for the rest of Europe though.
