why do some of these pics look awesome and some look like rubbish? is it the post work? or is it just 'camera' settings in the game when you take these shots?

this is a serious question. some of these look beautifully photo realistic yet some look like the game was made on the first xbox or worse

When photo's are uploaded they get compressed which can cause them to look kind of crappy. Some people also touch up their photo's with Photoshop.

its a combination of everything really. the compression can mess them up. it also depends on how much you mess with the camera settings in the game, some people do touch them up with photoshop, or some people even use capture cards so that they can get the image fully uncompressed.

all my pics are straight off the game. i bring it into photoshop to resize them, and i might do an "auto adjust" setting for the brightness/contrast, but it usually doesnt adjust anything noticeable
