Maybe not on a small screen, but on a larger one i think you may a bit.

Only if you are pretty close, for most peoples viewing distances at a TV (where most people will play on consoles) 720p/1080p will make no real difference, its why 4K on a TV is of limited use.

Glad ive PS4 and I sit 3 foot from screen at 42 inch

You are probably one of the few people who would benefit from a 4K Screen, and you almost certainly will be able to see the difference between 720 and 1080. 900 and 1080 will still be a minimal difference even at those distances but I suspect you might just spot it. 👍

I sit about 7 feet from my 55" Sony for watching tv and the difference between 720p and 1080p is dramatic and obvious.

That is surprising, are you using like for like sources?

Edit:

Based on this chart you are just about on the borderline of "Full Benefit of 1080P", I would still be surprised if this was a massively noticeable difference when you were comparing like for like from the same source, it would be there but not hugely obvious I would expect.

If you're going to do it then go for a GTX970 and I7 CPU, shouldn't need to upgrade for a little while

I'm not looking for the best, as I probably won't be able to afford it, I'm just looking for about 30FPS on most AAA games, which ATM I am not getting for anything since 2006. I get about 30FPS on 2004-2006 era games maxed out. But I'll make another thread to discuss this on.

Is the FPS locked? Or is it just 60FPS in most situations? Talking about the consoles of course, would be very nice if SMS didn't mess with dropped frames like a lot of 60FPS remasters have done.

Where is that interesting physics modelling Q&A thing we had a few weeks ago? I thought it had it's own thread, but I am not sure anymore, can't seem to find it.

In the latest video of TeamVVV, they do a race with 43 cars on track and even while the start there is no FPS drop, so I think we're good.

Edit: Forget to mention that the Video is from the PS4 version with February build.

@VBR: You talk about this? https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/got-realism.326019/

Literally just watched that myself.

Simply spectacular. If nothing else this is a ridiculous achievement by SMS, I couldn't give a crap about how some trees look and a small graphical downgrade compared to PC. 60FPS is an absolute hook-line-sinker for me in terms of how I view a game.

Yeb stunning especially LMP 2 cars on road America in the evening. Very pleased and the frame rate is good with 43 cars on track.

If you get the 970 and I7 you won't need to upgrade for a while and as an example, in AC with a grid of a dozen or more cars I'm getting up to 180 FPS plus, dependent on track. As each new game comes out then higher processing is required, it would seem! So, buy something that's going to be sufficient for a while, the 970 and I7 will drop in price as they all do eventually. I wouldn't settle for anything less powerful, you save in the long run. If you go for it, try PC Specialist, good reviews and service.

@Classic -- I think Forza Horizon proves the value of a solidly locked framerate above all else. There's no debating that 60fps is superior, but a buttery-smooth 30fps game can look better than a "60fps" game that's all over the place.

Here's hoping that Slightly Mad Studios can pull off a similarly smooth 30fps on Wii U.

But AC is a great looking game and 180FPS on that is not necessary. I have already started a thread about it so any further discussion about it can go there. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/recommendations-for-my-pc.326869/

I can agree with that. Driveclub is another great example, it runs at 30FPS but still manages to look great. Unlocked 60FPS is usually a complete waste of time and can often be more off-putting than helpful. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was sick enducing at times with its ridiculous FPS drops.

We will see about locked 60fps on consoles when it's released. just saying. ;)

Edit: digital foundry wise...

I've watched hundreds of videos up to this point and never noticed any frame rate issues. I don't think we have any reasons to worry about it....

haven't seen much of the console stuff, that's the point here. if they've locked it at 60 on both consoles that's a massive win

I initially had AC on 720p as I didn't realize, and i can assure you setting it to 1080p made a big difference ;)
It's already evident in the menu's let alone in the gameplay itself.
