I'll answer #2. Yes, it will be wireless, I thin Bluetooth wireless and up to 7 people, although, I'm guessing most will use 6. I don't think there's any info on battery life.

Let me answer Question #2 a bit clearer.

there WILL be 7 bluetooth wireless controllers, and one controller used through usb.

6 controllers make absolutely no sense. because the ps3 will support dual display, 8 controllers will be supported to make a 4-player split on both screens.

Controllers will also (more than likely) be recharged through USB connections. I'm sure sony will accomidate recharging somehow...regular batteries would be a major upset.

64 bit ??? I'm sure you counted it wrongly , otherwise how can Sony claim it's 35 time more powerful than actual PS2 ???

Here is your Answer. 64-bit CPUs

Xbox and X360 are also 64-bit

Another Example of bits nt being a big deal. PSP has two 32-bit R4000 CPU's both with max clock speeds of 333mhz. That combo makes psp almost as powerful as PS2's single 294mhz R5900 64-bit CPU

Do you guys think The PS3 will be capable of handling photorealistic graphics ? I really hope there will be some worthy launch games anyway , can't wait to see how the new Silent Hill , R E , and DMC will look like.

It all depends on the developers. I'm sure ILM-type graphics are achievable with the hardware. (SW-episode 3, etc.) ;) :dopey:

You won't be seeing Star Wars like CG in PS3 games. That's just a bit too much.
It will be something simillar to this, the latest render released by Sony:

Thats dan impressive though, like many hae said, a lot will depend on the developers taking advantage of what the PS3 can do.

Something than interests me about the PS3 is its SACD ability (Super Audio CD - like DVD Audio it lets you play music in 5.1).
I already have a Pioneer DVD/SACD player (and a Sony one before that) and I was wondering how the PS3 uses SACD. I'm not very knowledgable in this area but I do know that currently I need to use the 5.1 line out of my DVD/SACD player and plug it into the 5.1 line in on my amp.
To my knowledge the PS3 does not have 5.1 phono outputs so I am wondering how does it use SACD? Anybody got any ideas?

Wireless perhaps, I'm not an expert in audio either but thats the first thing that came to my mind.

Thanks. Well, I'm going to see if I can find out exactly as on the one hand it'd be great to have more people getting SACD but not so great if you have to spend £500+ on a new amp just to do it!

With some select browsing on Google I see that SACD can be played with DSD - Direct Stream Digital. However to use this you need and amp with DSD capability. Generally these seem to be Digital amps.
Oh well, looks like I won't be using the SACD on the PS3 when it comes out. No way can I afford that, a HD Plasma/LCD AND a new Digital amp!!

Don't go plasma whatever you do, they arn't nerarly as good as LCD and need maintanence.

Understand before you get blown away by hype and become another person complaining about "overpromising" and "underdelivering".

That is ONE model. All power dedicated to ONE model. That is all.

:)

I know that, but I doubt it's all the power, it will be far more than we'll see in each model in a game. I expect the PS3 to do KZ2 graphics though.

Oh I completely expect to see Killzone PS3 visuals and then some, however, the hair, and skin, are both extremely complex in this model, and likely something we won't see used by most, if not a handful, of developers.

It's just people are so quick to assume, that developers see this and immediately raise the bar, and then blame Sony for a shortcoming, rather than the developer for a crappy game. They are ignorant like that sometimes yenno?

Aye, you only have to read a few of the threads in the forum to see loads of people complaining about unfinished's games graphics, especially VGT's and thats not even a game .

I am aware of that tha_con.
It was the same story back when the PS2 was released. Sony showed a very high quality render of one character and people immidiately asumed that that's how the characters would look like in PS2 games.

About the image above. I'm sure we'll be seeing simillar graphics like that in PS3 games. The characters just won't be as detailed a smuch as the ones above.

Lair looks pretty DAMN impressive as does The Mech game. The game by Koei looks good with 150k poly charactors compared to 1000 for ps2 and nice high dynamic range. Endless Saga was ingame too and it was easy to tell by the ground texutres. Project Force was in game and shows omre of the magical HDR lighting. If the Resident Evil 5 trailer was indeed a game ingine cut scene it makes Gears of war look like Halo. More use of HDR and it seems every PS3 game will use it.

Righty 'o!
I did have my heart set on the Pioneer PDP-435XDE as it has had rave reviews. But seeing as I won't be getting it until the end of next year I guess I'll look around.

Would an LCD be better for gaming with the PS3? Do LCD's have HDMI?

Wow , those pics are impressive , but I remember having seen something close to that level with Silent Hill 3 and 4 on PS2. The ingame character models almost looked too real to believe it's a PS2 ingame visuals. However no scene showed more than two characters on screen at once.

Looking at the renders the full length models do look fake, particularly the face. But the close up of the face is very good. Extremely life like skin tones. And the eyes actually look pretty real, if a little blood shocked. Maybe the model had a late night!

Yup. and that's pretty on par with Star Wars III, I'd say. All I meant is that it was capable of displaying those graphics, but not on a massive degree.

nononono, there is also a model of a chair in there. :sly:

With the debut of Playstation 3 scheduled for next spring, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. has announced strategic alliances with several companies and an acquisition all aimed at launching software development for the game console.
A tool shipment plan was also announced Thursday (July 21) at meeting here.

Real-time physics simulations are expected to replace motion capture while programmable shading will replace texture mapping in the new console, Sony executives said.

To support game programming in physics simulation, Sony has entered into strategic licensing agreements with Havok (Dublin, Ireland), a top supplier of physics engines, and Ageia Technologies Inc. a U.S. supplier of physics hardware accelerators. Under the deals, Sony obtains sub-licensing rights to Havok's physics and animation engines and Ageia's NovodeX SDK, a physics library for PS3.

Sony has also joined with with Transmeta for optimization tools and debuggers and with Epic Games, a U.S. game engine developer, to include Unreal Engine 3. Both will be available by the fourth quarter.

Sony also said it will acquire long-time partner SN Systems Ltd. (Bristol, England), making it a Sony subsidiary. The deal allows Sony to acquire SN's ProDG and other tools in the PS3 SDK.
