Prepare for an influx of hacked save games with 100s of cars...! :(

For those with a jailbroken PS3, its now relatively easy to decrypt and re-assign save games for your own PS3 account.

I won't link to how to do it, but i've tried and successfully transferred my existing save onto another account.

Scenario:

Jailbreak PS3, Download 100% save, get bored after a week because I have every car in every colour, no sense of achievement.

End of week PS3 dies because I let some nerd install his own dodgy firmware-software-jailbreak-hack-o-tronic.

GT is a long haul game... if you want instant cars etc go play NFS or Grid bla bla.

Rant over.

Yeah, i totally agree... I just transferred my save to another account on my ps3, just to test it. Won't be sharing it though.

Soon, the pirates will be playing their "backups", using hacked save games with full PSN access. Online is just about to get a whole lot worse :(

You Sir....are correct!

then the next update PD release will completely screw over whatever they do.

The most simple thing to fix all of this: Make an online backup option to back up your game saves! And protect the game saves from copying them manually.

Sony always have to cater for people without internet connections and with the way the PS3 has currently been hacked, even protected savegames should be hackable with this method :(

I don't trust online backing up data, esspecially with pd. :scared:

Am I missing something? You could do this before the PS3 was 'hacked'.

I think interludes missed this thread!

I don't think its an issue.. we're just discussing the fact that it's now possible and to watch out online for it (as previously jailbreakers couldnt play online, but soon they will be able to).

This way unlocks the save to an PS3

Trouble with an online game save is that, sooner or later (probably JUST after we all get reliant on it) Sony will charge for it. I got the PS3 over XBox mostly BECAUSE online gaming is free.

Best way around this hack would be for PD to make any updates ignore a hacked game save (mind you, not sure how THAT could be done!) and make the suckers start from scratch for their trouble..! Serve 'em right!

PD probably has MUCH bigger issues with the jailbreak than just the game save, anyway. Reason people are doing this is so they can get the whole GAME for free, not just legit users getting the whole garage unlocked. I foresee MUCH more frequent updates to the PS3 OS to combat this, and hopefully, MUCH more frequent updates to the game from PD (even if is as little as simply fixing ONE thing at a time) to keep up with these PS3 OS updates. Might actually be a WIN for us legit users, you never know!

I suggest you re-read the AUP.

You will not use these forums to violate any laws nor to discuss illegal activities.

Jailbreaking isn't illegal. In fact, the supreme court ruled it is the users right to jailbreak their digital devices or video game software.

Piracy is however, illegal; which is not the point of this discussion.

hmm, yeah that's fair enough mate. It's a legal grey area in itself (that is using backups, which wasn't really what this thread is about).

However, there's nothing illegal about jailbreaking your PS3 and event decrypting/hacking the save games (none of it is done using any copyrighted code).

I don't care if there are 'Jailbroken' games. Online there will always be a car that can beat theirs, many of the people who use this will be the ones who pile into the first turn because they don't know how the physics work. Just sit back and watch the carnage!

PS3 was fully hacked, we can expect all kinds of cheat programs soon enough. Since all they do is replacing some values in console's RAM.
That will be a much worse than hacked saves with 100% of cars.

And since PS3's root key was published, only way to fight against cheaters will be a mass bans for CFW PS3s like on X360.

I'll allow it for now. The conversation is currently geared towards a) the fact that it has been done and b) how Polyphony can avoid people being tempted by it. Afterall, we currently have a discussion thread in another subforum about a Congresswoman being shot. Shooting people falls under the heading of an illegal activity, but the thread stays open because nobody is discussing shooting someone themselves. So until this thread starts heading towards a discussion in which people decide to acquire an illegal save game or ask how to do it, it can stay open.

But rest assured, the moderators will be keeping a close eye on it.

Fingers crossed for a thread full of sensible people for once :D

Some people are interested in finishing GT5 and winning trophies, others are interested in driving the cars.

👍 👍 Cars! Cars! Cars! The joy of working hard for months for all those lovely cars... whats not to love about that?!

thanks interludes...

I think the real problem is that fair enough - someone owns the game and a PS3, so they can do what they want with it. I've got no qualms with people installing what they want on their own systems (piracy aside), but its when it affects other users and their own experiences of the game (online hacks especially).

Problem this causes me, is it means game developers/sony will undoubtedly distract themselves by attempting to combat the inevitable, instead of offering us more patches :) Where's my cross-game chat Sony!!!
