I don't think it is just the fat, my slim is exactly the same as my launch 60GB was. Very, very slow, it takes almost four times longer to download 1GB on my PS3 as it does on my PC (which is wired now, but same applies for when it was on the wi-fi). I'm going to get a Homeplug for my PS3 I think so I can have it wired as well.

I have a slim, AND its wired. Downloads from PSN are still painfully slow in most cases (way slower than my computer which is wired, or my tablet on WiFi). Online gaming works fine, as does NetFlix, youtube, etc. I think they optimize their servers so games play best, and everything else gets the back burner.

So far nothing is wrong with my both ps3's but if one of them fails i will definitely buy super slim

600x-1

That size is quite astonishing when I look over towards my Fatty.

The slim PS3's were a big improvement over the fat ones, it makes sense to further move this forward if it makes sense financially since they expect to keep selling systems for a good while.

I would like to see a full dissection to see what's inside. Looks like really cheap plastic :yuck: but the size is impressive. My 60GB feels like a breeze-block!

They did a good job with this model I think. It is compact. The way to insert the disk is old school lol without disk tray. The slider could have been better. It looks like baby PS3 to original. I am probably going to get this in November

I would get a normal slim, it will be cheaper and better airflow.

GT5 may kill the new PS3-SS

I still love my father ps3 i can't stand the slims. But the new super slim looks good but at the same time is extremely cheap made. The father models (1st generation and 2nd generation models) are far more superior

They have reduced the chip size and power consumption is also less since the original. With time they can make it more compact. It looks elegant other than the slider. But it will get the job done and this is the main thing. 500GB is enough space and to upgrade HDD is the same as other model. So 250GB and later on upgrade to 1TB should be sweet

Confused why people would buy this if there is nothing wrong with their current PS3.

Some people always need the latest and greatest. (See iphone)
I have a fat and a slim in the house this new model is nit really on my radar. If i need to replace either one then the 500gb is a no brainer purchase.

For me, it is portability. I travel out of town a lot and I would need a PS3 to take with me to play games on. My current PS3 is too heavy to take with me, so I would need to buy this bad boy to use as a travel PS3.

There are many reasons for them to buy another PS3, they have the money to spare, they want another one for another room, or for present.

For me, I'll buy for backup, I will turn it on, to see it works fine, then backup my current PS3 data to the new Super Slim, then I put it back in the box. I might buy 2 actually, one for safe keeping.

I still have the old PSone and PS2 Slim and all the games, they are safely kept in the box, I play them when I feel want to relive the good old days. I still have both spare original optical lens as well and 2 brand new controller and memory cards. My PS2 slim had a DIY lens replacement once, now I want a little insurance. I am a nerd :D.

Yeah but an iPhone actually changes with each one (well debatable but you know what I mean). Hardware wise this is exactly the same, you can't do anything new with it.

Crikey, you must be made of money.

Well, I planned all my expenses and savings, I always set aside enough for gaming and entertainment :) Not much if compared to people who bought new smartphone every 6 months or so, or going out for fast food everyday. That's one of the things where you can start to divert the expenses for something else.

I will buy the PS3 SS for safe keeping when it will be on sale, maybe Xmas or new year .

It is cheaper to run, phat PS3 used 250w this one is set to run at 100w

I may find myself buying one of these. My launch 20gb has almost given up the ghost, I can't run BF3 for more than five minutes without it locking up, requiring a hard reset. A friend of mine loaned me one of his as he only used it as a blu-ray player, thus, my needs have been met by that. However I dont think he'll let me take it overseas with me.

Would not be surprised if you never did any maintenance inside of the PS3. I replaced the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU on my 60GB PS3 after 3 years of playing and it's still working two years later. Doing such a thing to your PS3 may seem dangerous but it's a pretty easy but long process(2-3 hours to take your time). ifixit.com has a teardown guide that was easy to follow and I'd recommend having a large table to work with to line up the parts so you will know what to put back together first. Use 90% rubbing alcohol and a fine cloth to clean up the old thermal paste. The replacement thermal paste should be something non-conductive like this one to save you the worry of getting some on the motherboard. I'd recommend doing it as you only spend around $20 in total for these items and it will save you from spending $270 on a new PS3.

Actually, I don't have to take a TV. One is there ready to go for me to use.

If the hotels he stays at have LCD TVs then he should be gold.
I only had one hotel that I stayed at that didn't provide me a LCD TV.

Not sure if serious.

It is something which many people do especially with decent laptops and the new one can probably fit in backpack now . Although handhelds is probably better option.

Though handhelds are a better option, but in my profession, I need a PS3 that I could carry so that I can run certain games on it like King of Fighters XIII on it.

Weird. My eyes not even for a minute looked on ps3 :sly:
