[PS4] MONDAYS - Look for us on Project cars 2Finished

Round 5 Brno.jpg

Above - it looks like Simba Lora is on his way to another title - probably only a false start can deny him the championship!

Good race everyone, even though, low numbers, sorry about bump Sick.
Hadn't did any practice ether, I like Brno, we were all fairly close together at one point.
Then had off, then lost sight of everyone.

I didn't notice the bump so it must have been small John. I qualified third and in the opening lap we were all close. I briefly managed to get ahead of Simba when he ran wide - this track has plenty of width so allows for different lines. Simba pulled away and John overtook. We battled for a bit, which was really enjoyable, but on a tricky corner we both started to spin - I just managed to save my car, but John did a 360 and lost a lot of time. I thought about waiting for John so we could continue our battle, but thought I should press on and try to catch new man @Mr Tree however he pulled away and I started to make some errors on Brno's many tricky corners. Suddenly I caught up with Mr Tree who, I think, had spun and stalled his engine.

During the last three laps of the race I started lapping the AI cars which added to the enjoyment - by this stage Simba Lora had pulled out a big lead for a well deserved win.

Hopefully next week we will have a bigger turnout for the final round with the BMW 2002 Turbo.

Next Round - Willow Springs International

Sick, guys...
I tried to do practice laps today at Willow. Unfortunately after 5 or 6 laps shooting pain returned up and down my right leg. Had to abort the session.
I appear to be no where near well enough to race yet. How very disappointing and frustrating. Felt good to be on a track at least for a few laps!!
I may have to seek escalated med help since I am healing so slowly. All I can say is I will let you know when I know when I am improved enough. I really do look forward to getting out there with you guys asap...Sorry
Skip

Sorry to hear that Skip - hope you get well soon.

I found this great instructional video for the track - I always struggle with the final corner and a few of the others which I find hard to link together - I am sure if I studied this video and practised I could nail this track. It should be good tonight with the BMW 2002 Turbo.

Excellent race Sick, good battle again, MrTree, Simba alien speed pulled away in the distance.
Turn 9 is satisfying when you get it right, the track doesn't seem as slippy, did in GT.
Lapping the Al was really good, in practice, still have them up to 40.

Yeah I have nonidea how tonfollow simba. Sick made me nervous on some occassions. At a certain point he was really close to my bumper think it was the uphill turn with the green sign. 'ext thing I look in my backmirror and something seemd to have gone wrong. It was exciting again, to say the least! Ty everyone!

Sick, I will take #14 Hummerich Rennsport for the Escort, and #7 dark green/gold for the 49C...

I think John means he will have a look at the colours for both cars - and then indicate his preference later. Thanks for your colour choices Skip - I'll update the threads later.

I think I'm going to go with the rusty barnfind Escort - it reminds me of the crazy cars that a friend of my dad used to call round in when I was growing up - the bodies were always rust, filler and a few dents yet to be filled, but mechanically they were perfect, very low and supercharged with Shorrocks centrifugal blowers - I especially remember an Austin 1300 which my parents borrowed - Dad found it almost impossible to drive as it had a standard throttle pedal travel, but much tuning and the supercharger had given it about four times the power of standard. He also had a Ford Anglia which was so low that it got beached on the driveway and couldn't reverse out until planks of wood were slid under the tyres. In those days, like other club racers on a tight budget in the sixties, he used to drive the car to the track, fit a racing number and then drive it home and use it as a daily driver.

Ahhh.
I almost picked that livery as well! Reminded me of my first rust bucket car! Great stories about your Dad....

Ford Escort number 37 - Rusty Barnfind, Lotus 49C number 30 Black and Yellow,

Just to clarify - the guy who used to bring supercharged cars round to our house when I was growing up was my Dad's friend and also the mechanic who serviced our family car - originally a mini and then a series of Cortina's. I think the type of racing he did was either grass track or autocross - sadly I don't remember and don't have any photos from that period. My Dad never did any kind of racing - he was just kind enough to take me to watch.

I remember that the Mark 3 Cortina seemed to rust much worse than the Mark 1 - to earn pocket money I would rub down the rust spots, then fill them with David's Isopon (body filler), then paint them in red primer. Every couple of weeks another half dozen rust patches would have sprouted. Every few months Dad would invest in a spray can (which supposedly was a match) and the car would look half decent for a few weeks.

Cars used to rust terribly - they weren't galvanised, the steel was poor and quality control was virtually non-existent by modern standards - I remember being woken up by a terrific bang and a grinding sound one Sunday morning - a neighbour was just driving past the front of the house in his Morris Minor when his engine and gearbox literally fell out and landed on the road - the engine mounts had rusted clean through! The old boy inside was a bit shaken, but unhurt - fine after a cup of tea!

John - 75% power increase when fitted to a 105E Ford Anglia engine!

Great story about the Morris Minor..LOL for at least 3 minutes!
About the bolt on supercharger...good grief, didn't that make for numerous blown engines not designed to take that kind of pressure?

"Acceleration times are halved" - Braking times are (more than) doubled! They forgot to mention that.
You probably didn't need to bother with the formalities of telling your insurance company in those days.

My second car was a Cortina mk3. A 2.0S, it had stripey seats which of course made it go faster. And I can confirm it did rust rather well, by the time I sold it there was more filler than wing. If I'd have pranged it there would have been a cloud of dust.

Was this severe rust thing in Britain on certain brands or types? I ask because my best friend and both owned and rally raced TR3' s while in high school back in the 60s...the cars were about 4 to 5 years old, but we never had any rust issues as I recall. We lived in California near the ocean, so salt air was heavy and rust frequent on cars there....yet the TRs showed no signs!!

I think a lot of the problems were caused by insufficient under body protection combined with the salt used on the roads during the winter months. Although I suppose some cars did fair better than others.
I remember Italian cars were even worse, you don't see many around from that era. A Lancia for instance is a rare sight now.

Good race MrTree, Sick, Rich, I like this track, shame Rich had problems with gear lever.
Was having quite a good race, getting past people, who spun out. Then had crash myself, damaged car, okay too drive though.

So crash put people in front, was quite happy with position, until MrTree spun out too. We were having a good race towards the end.

What flight sims you play MrTree?

Yeah lovely and exciting end. Sorry about that bumb right before you spun. That was all my fault.

I played a lot of Rise Of Flight, a ww1 flightsim.
