Hi Peps,
I was having great fun in the escort brings back meny memorys but mine was a mk2 ...lol

Yes - the interior view felt very familiar although I never went in an RS model. My close friend had a bottle green mark 1 - after an evening out we couldn't remember where he had parked the car and assumed it had been stolen. We found it three days later, safe and sound - we had been looking in the wrong street.

Cars used to get stolen all the time in the seventies and eighties - one time I was staying with my sister and we looked out in the morning to find that her boyfriend's Mark 2 Cortina was missing - it was a hideous heap with completely faded blue paint with no shine left and would barely start and mostly ran on three cylinders. Stepped outside and no surprise to find it perfectly parked just three houses away - the thief had driven 20 metres and thought "Stuff this for a game of soldiers" and had stopped to steal a better car instead.

Today cars have immobilisers and alarms and are hardly ever stolen, but back in the day they were so easy to nick - a former school friend of mine used to go to college on the train and if his mum couldn't meet him from the station he would just take a car from the station car park and park it a safe distance from his house.

My mum and dad lived at the top of a steep hill about one mile from the railway station - people would nick cars (normally Fords) just to save their legs from walking up the hill. One time I remember a loud banging at the front door and an irate man demanding to know why his car was parked in our driveway - he had obviously walked all the way up the steep hill, getting angrier and angrier before spotting his car perfectly parked in our drive! Eventually he calmed down and went on his way.

Next time - some memories of my sister and her dark blue Ford Escort 1100 mark one estate - surely one of the slowest cars available at the time - top speed (screaming along) 78mph.

I'll post the results later - unfortunately run out of time - work beckons!

Round 1 from Laguna Seca
Round 1.jpg

A bit of a shock result - I often don't get time to practise for Monday's (or I forget) and this round was no exception, so I was very surprised to take pole position by a full second. I got a poor start and dropped to third, but gradually got through to the lead when Rich did a half spin. Unfortunately he had problems with his gear lever working loose and coming off in his hand! After this I was able to pull away from second place. It was a very surprising race - everything seemed to flow and there was a natural rhythm to the car and track. I am sure that I wouldn't have got the win if some of the faster drivers like @Flaco13 or his Father @AndreasR / SimbaLora, but we must make hay while we can!

The next track - Sakitto Sprint - should be great with this car - all the short Sakitto track variants are good with the lower powered saloons in Project Cars.

Hopefully this vintage Ford Escort advert will make you all smile!

Next Round 2 from Sakitto Sprint - we need more members - leave a message in this thread or send one to Sick Cylinder - we welcome all clean drivers - online novice or old hand!

Many apologies to @John Wells and @jefaais who attended Round 2 - I don't know what came over me - whether it was the heat or tiredness or being rushed, but I selected the wrong car! Obviously it should have been the Ford Escort not the BMW. No points will be issued for round 2 - hopefully I get the hosting right next week!

What an excellent race, even though it was the wrong car, should messaged maybe.
Very good think we all made some mistakes, I hit the wall near Degner Curve, some time penalty's.

Hopefully a good race on Wen with new car.

Back from holiday.

I chose the "Team Lucie #94" to be my car, see you on the track soon.

Welcome back from holiday - you didn't lose many points because last week I made a hosting mistake and used the wrong car!

I am reminded of a telephone call from my sister about her Ford Escort Mark One 1100 Estate - She said "It has taken me over half an hour so far to top up the oil and it is still not full". After a few more questions I established that she had been pouring the oil down the dipstick hole!

Round 3 RS 1600.jpg

Spa Francorchamps - I was pleased to qualify third just a small amount behind Simba and Jefaais. I had been able to keep up with them fairly easily during the qualification so thought it might be a close race, but in the opening couple of laps they raised their pace and in my efforts to keep up I lost time due to errors. After running wide I suffered a penalty and dropped behind John Wells. I followed John for a while and realising that my best chance of a safe, clean pass was on the straight after Eau Rouge I concentrated on getting a better line than John. After re-taking third I relaxed and found a rhythm which was slower than my qualification, but followed a safe line without running wide and risking further penalties. I was surprised to pass Jefaais - he had obviously lost a lot of time with an incident. I focussed on doing my best to stay ahead of a faster driver. He tried a pass at the chicane, but that is a tight part of the track. I thought he would pass after Eau Rouge, but I was carrying enough speed onto the straight to stay ahead. On the last lap he was getting closer and closer and a pass seemed inevitable, but fortunately for me Jefaais had a problem on the straight just after Eau Rouge and I was able to cruise in for second place a long way behind the race winner Simba.

Next Round Snetterton 200

Was good race Sick, I didn't have enough drive, up Eau Rouge. I had some spins, so back down with the Al. Have to be care fall with throttle with this car.

In practice, set the Al to 80, I couldn't catch them and made quite a few mistakes trying.

Round 4 from Snetterton 200

Round 4 RS 1600.jpg

I did a practise race for this round, but not enough - it is a tricky technical track, which is ideally suited to the Ford Escort RS 1600, but it is very easy to run wide and off the track or clip the sausage kerbs and risk a rollover. It's a track on which to lap fast you have to go slow - by that, I mean you have to relax, concentrate 100% and be very accurate. I was able to do this in the 5 minute practise and the qualifying session so started second. Jefaais was soon through from third and the opening laps were very enjoyable as Simba, Jefaais and myself were virtually nose to tail. Unfortunately I got too close to Jefaais and had to brake harder than expected and lost control of the car on the brakes - by the time I was back on track I had lost twelve seconds. After that I struggled with my concentration and made a lot of errors, eventually getting lapped by the leader.

A great track, but a difficult one and a poor performance from me. Congratulations to SimbaLora on the win and Jefaais for second place.

Time for another (true) Escort Mark One story - my sister rang me for advice after driving a considerable distance with the handbrake on - she had pulled into a garage for petrol, but when she went to apply the handbrake she noticed it was already fully up. She was worried that the car would catch fire because the rear drums were red hot and she wanted to throw water on them to cool them down!

Next Round 5 from Donnington Park GP
