Gamestop just said there has been a shortage of physical game copies and they are quickly running out of preorders.

Ok, so I briefly went back and forth with buying a physical copy Vs buying digital, I generally prefer physical games but I buy both about equally. I have $20 on my live account so initially I thought I would get the digital copy, but I will save that for FH4 most likely. So I went to preorder it and they had to check a list, then weigh that list against another hand writtten list to make sure they could even take my preorder. They said the reason is there has been a shortage of copies across the board and that this game is going to be very popular, perhaps the biggest selling title of the year. I was able to reserve one of the last available copies. Moral of this story is, if you want a physical disc and you haven't preordered then you should probably do that today.

How many copies do you think they'll sell (digital and physical) in the first 24 hours? GTA 5 moved 11.2. I think they'll smash it with 15 or 20 million atleast.

I was going to wait a few months, but my girlfriend is getting it with her new PS4 Pro Bundle and is giving me the game. I'm pretty stoked to say the least, Should be a great time waster, especially during Christmas break.

I've never played the first Redemption (or Revolver), but I've only heard excellent things about it. What should I expect in comparison to GTA V?

I’ve never played GTA cause it doesn’t interest me but I’m guessing it’s like that.
Just imagine GTA set 120 years ago.

If the first RDRedemption is anything to go by, any GTA player will find it all very familiar as it uses the same game engine. The differences are that it all generally happens at a slower pace. Not just because of the horses for cars element which obviously slows progress down, but the general pace of life is slower. Because of that you tend to spend more time admiring the scenery and soaking up the atmosphere. Think of it as a version of GTA5 set only in the Mount Chiliad/Senora Desert north side of the map, but without the cars and planes. You get that kind of ratio of small settlements interspersed with large areas of countryside.

If you've extensively played GTA, you'll settle in very quickly.

I do have to add, that because it isnt set in a modern city, the travelling between location on horseback can become very boring in my opinion. Especially compared to GTA V. You do need to somewhat like westerns to really get into the game. I got bored a lot of times in RDR, because of the long travels and sidemission like catch the animal or pick the flower. There wasnt a lot of variation in the environment in the 1st game, but in this game it should be better.

If realism is forced and it's somehow cruel, lot of impatient players will be highly annoyed on unreliable revolvers needing care and maintenance in RDR2. :D

I wonder how that will work. I got used to the Zelda botw weapon durability mechanic quite quickly.

I guess you can't please all the people all of the time. I didn't mind the long travelling so much, but then i was happy to play the game at my own pace. I feel that with all these true open world games, 'the journey' and those little side quests you run into during them are half the fun. I suppose there are a lot of people who just want to get to the end a game main story as soon as they can and then move onto the next game. Then there are those completionists who need to do every mission and side mission and collect all the collectables (and trophies) etc before they feel they've done. But there's a vast amount of players who, like me, just want to get as much from the games experience as they can. I can easily get 6-9 months from a single run-through of almost exclusively playing that one game. I hate westerns, the wild west etc. But RDR is one of my all time favourite games.

I agree that in RDR there was a lot of time where the lack of variation of location was a bit dull but to me that just felt more realistic for a mostly desert/prairie environment, but yeah, this one does look to be packing more variety in.

I dont mind travelling if there is enough to see. But RDR was just too much priarie/desert.

Don’t forget that in RDR when it came to travel you had options.
You could ride your horse, set up camp, save the game & port to another location or, catch a Coach and fast travel to your location.

I’m expecting the same options to be available in RDR2.

Estimates have put the total sales of Red Dead Redemption at about 15 million copies (as of Aug 2018). It was at 13 million in 2013. I'm sure the sequel will smash those numbers. I'm not so sure if will move more copies than GTA 5 in the first 24 hours though, but it could.

Currently I can't walk past a bus stop, tram stop, or advertising board in Zürich without seeing a poster for RDR2 - seriously getting put off by the advertising.

Why? Do you not like the type of game or is it just over advertised in your opinion? I don't think I've eve been put off by a game being prolifically advertised whether I was interested in the game or not.

I'm very advertising averse, and anything that gets rammed down my throat at every corner immediately puts me off the product, I've got nothing against the game at all, it's just that with all the advertising and hype I just feel like I'm bored with it already without even playing it.

I find it depends on how enjoyable it is just to travel around and explore the game's world, or how much depth and engagement the game can lend to just existing and surviving dangers.

I spent more than 200 hours in the first Forza Horizon because the physics and roads were satisfying enough to drive around aimlessly. I completed the survey of planet Mira in Xenoblade X without using fast travel because the five "continents" were completely seamless and traversing the environments is fun for its own sake, whether on foot or in your mecha. Breath of the Wild has the paraglider and shield surfing to add zest to exploring Hyrule.

Playing Starbound with @Mrs Wolfe, we roleplayed surviving the harsh environments and aggressive fauna, like setting up a sheltered campsite (using some of the game's staggering number of props) and cooking food while waiting for acid rain to pass. Breath of the Wild is best when you are lacking supplies and need to forage and steal weapons and cook food to survive, early on in the game or for a couple of its challenges.

I'm like you; I can enjoy games that are designed for a single blast to the end (and replay the best ones again), but I like to sink into the experience when a game makes it worth the time. :)

I haven't seen that many ads for it here in the Seattle area. I saw a commercial for RDR2 on TV during a football game the weekend before last, and that was about it.

The only ad that honestly bugs me (and I mean a lot) is the 1-877-cars4kids commercial because the music is so bad that I literally dive for the radio channel changer button as fast as possible to make it go away. I'm sure it's a great charity but man their ads suck.

ouTuber's are getting play through videos up now. Just watched about 45 minutes of one and it looks great.

Was trying hard to avoid any gameplay vids in fear of spoilers but I caved and watched a little bit on Twitch just now. Can not wait to get my copy.

Well my copy has arrived :D ....Just have 9 long hours of work to get through before I can even plug it in :(.

Can I ask for anyone about to play...No spoilers please.

Only 9 Hours!!!:lol: My wife is picking the game up for me this morning but she won't be home till late, then we're going out tonight and have a very full weekend. So I'll finally get to play on Monday... that's if nothing else comes up before then :nervous::scared::crazy:

I feel your pain @FPV MIC, maybe a quick prayer to the gaming gods for some cancellations will help your cause :)

For me I'll get home from work and plug game in to do install etc etc, then it'll be another few hours before I can play because I'll have to help get the kids fed and settled in bed first.

I can pick it up at 9PM tonight but I won't. I'll get it tomorrow on my lunch and won't be able to install it until I get home (no idea how long that will take). I too have a very full weekend. I'm driving my daughter to her Halloween party at her Dance Academy Friday night, Saturday morning she has to be at dance class, we have some stuff going on in the afternoon and Saturday night we are all going to a Halloween party. Sunday morning I will be watching the Seahawks game and my son has a football practice and then a game in the afternoon. I'm sure I'll get some time to play in between the spaces. I'm not worried about it, I'm going to be playing this game for months.

And that is why i dont have kids haha.

Thankfully this is the last weekend of most of their activities, it will quiet down a lot after Sunday, the last game of the year. Even if I had no kids, the last 3 months would have been practically just as busy because of work and other commitments not related to kids. And if you own a home, those are a lot of work to keep up too. One of the great things after Fall is no more to very little yard work until next spring which leaves a lot more time to play games.
